[BL] Accidentally Becoming the Healer of the Deranged Archduke -
Chapter 295: Where the Moon Will Never Fall
Chapter 295: Where the Moon Will Never Fall
Georgie Maximus stood beneath the broad shade of the ancient tree. In his hands rested a delicate wooden box, no larger than two open palms.
Its surface shimmered with tiny, exquisite jewels used to design the outer layer, and the craftsmanship alone was enough for the onlookers to have fanciful thoughts of the content inside.
With a slight smile that reflected the well-bred grace of his refined character, he bowed deeply to the Archduke. "It was my pride that had made me blind. I sincerely hope that you can forgive me, Your Grace."
From his humble plea to his perfectly composed posture of remorse, no one could find a single flaw in Georgie.
Just days ago, this same royal minister had scorned the northern people, calling them savages. Who would have thought that instead of going back to the royal capital, he would return to ask for forgiveness?
Ray let out a short, derisive snort, already shifting his stance to throw the man out.
However, much to his surprise, the Archduke, who had been silent all this time, suddenly smiled.
Without saying a word, Ray took a few steps back. It was better not to meddle with His Grace’s business.
The Archduke’s smile was not warm, but neither was it cruel. It was exactly the kind that unsettled men more than anger ever could. And didn’t Georgie know that?
They had all heard the rumors of how His Grace had those cursed eyes that could see through others.
But no matter what, Georgie was confident in his skills. If not for that, he wouldn’t be the royal minister. He had dabbled with countless people from all walks of life.
In the end, it was only interest that lasted longer than anything.
Sure enough, His Grace waved his hand. Although there were no words said, his gift was accepted by the brute of a knight.
The first step was to get his gift accepted, and the second was to get close to the Archduke, close enough so he could get his hands on that healer.
For the sake of that, he was willing to suffer and stay a few more days, one to be exact, before returning.
To gain that closeness, it was better to retreat for now.
Darius was almost amused at how ugly this minister looked. Even his back was covered with the slimy black fog, weighing on him like boulders and yet he was happy to bear that burden.
How ridiculous.
"Put it away," Darius calmly ordered Ray without even looking at what was placed inside.
He had other things to care about, like the preparations for the wedding. In just one more day, Xion would be his... Forever.
"Go and make sure the things are ready for tomorrow."
"Yes, Your Grace," Ray said so with a respectful tone. However, internally, he was utterly restless.
He, the knight commander, and the loyal friend of the Archduke, was given a special task.
It was to make sure that everything was perfect on Xion’s side. From clothing to food, everything had to go through his own inspection.
Was he happy for Darius? Yes, without a doubt, he was.
He had never believed that there would be someone who could love His Grace for who he truly was.
No one was more deserving to stand beside Darius than Xion.
It was precisely this that was making his chest feel heavy. There was also no person who could protect Xion better than the Archduke.
Both were equally important to Ray.
One was his master, a man whom he had sworn to serve with all his strength, while the other was the one who had taught him that there were other things than getting better abdominal muscles and winning fights.
In the middle of the bustling room, he stood frozen, watching Xion nodding to the decorative jewel.
His grip on the wooden box tightened until a crack was heard.
His head jerked forward under the pressure of the sudden smack.
"Hey!" The knight hissed as he rubbed the back of his head. His anger rose sharply when he saw that calm, detached look on Allen’s face.
"What the heck do you want?" There was not even a trace of politeness when he talked to the Alchemist.
"You."
That made Ray’s eyebrows twitch. "Speak properly! Do you want others to misunderstand about our relationship?"
Allen blinked innocently. "Misunderstood what?" There was a slight frown on his smooth forehead as if the poor alchemist really couldn’t understand what this was all about.
"I want you to come with me and check the collection of gifts."
Gifts...
Ray smacked his own forehead. This was why he came here in the first place. He wanted to put this box away, but his feet walked toward this special room.
"No matter how many times you look at the moon, it will never come down to the ground."
Allen left the sentence before turning over his heels, leaving behind the stunned knight.
Ray had always thought that he had kept his emotions hidden. Even the Archduke didn’t find it so how could this damned Alchemist do it?
But then it struck him. Allen was the one who wrote that abominable Love Guide, so of course, he would be much more experienced than him.
Raymond Eldritch had only met two people who made him infuriated just by looking at their faces. One was his father, and the other was Allen.
To get caught by either of the two was equivalent to losing a battle with a newly recruited soldier!
How embarrassing!!!
If Allen could hear Ray’s internal thoughts, he would have only heard a loud groundhog-like scream.
Luckily, the Alchemist didn’t have any such power. Hence, when he saw Ray still rooted to the spot, he sighed in exhaustion.
What a fool, Allen thought and finally dragged the stunned Ray away.
All the way, no one spoke. One was busy trying to make sense of the shame he was feeling while the other was simply observing red ears of Ray.
It was actually kind of cute, the way Ray was always acting like a kid. A child with muscles, but a child nonetheless.
It baffled Allen that Ray still hadn’t realized the reason he’d been placed in charge of the inspection. His Grace was deliberate, never careless.
Their master was silently forcing Ray to witness every moment of Xion being wed to him.
Darius Rael Darkhelm was a heartless, cold and cruel man. Much more brutal than someone innocent like Xion could guess.
However, that wasn’t the case for them. It wasn’t just allowing Ray to properly understand that he had no chance, but also to torture him.
To silently see his beloved getting ready for the marriage with someone else... there was nothing more terrible than this.
If it was someone else in the place of Ray, it wouldn’t simply end with this.
Perhaps it was Ray’s foolishness that had saved him this time.
After all, even if His Grace knew about Raymond’s less-than-desirable thoughts about his spouse, they all knew that Ray would never cross any line.
Allen was sure that Ray didn’t even understand what love actually was.
Sighing for the umpteenth time, they stepped inside another room at the corner of the hallway.
There were already gifts piling up. The marriage was announced in a frenzy, and the guests who couldn’t make it in time had started to send their blessings.
Ray tossed the box randomly before turning on his heels.
Without looking at anything else, he hurried out of the doors and disappeared into the hallway.
Who would have thought that Xion would somehow stumble inside?
With wide curious eyes, he watched in amazement at the tiny hills of things.
"These are the gifts and blessings for your marriage, Teacher." Allen was the only one who hadn’t changed his address until now.
Xion’s mouth opened in an ’O’ shape, clearly stunned by the sight of gold and silver just littering the floor like garbage.
But he wasn’t here for these. After shaking off the servants who kept fussing over him, he rushed to Allen’s side.
It was during such times, that Xion felt lucky for having the system by his side. If not for it, he would have lost more than once in this castle.
"Brother Allen, can you help me with something?" Xion looked eagerly at Allen.
When he stared with those big blue eyes no one could resist him, let alone Allen who always felt indebted to his silly teacher. If not for those books Xion had left for him, his status wouldn’t rise so sharply.
Forget his blood relatives, even the aristocrats wouldn’t dare to abuse him now.
"Of course, I will. Please tell me what you want."
As he listened to what Xion wanted, he was suddenly glad that Ray had run away.
This would have only hurt him more.
"I’ll arrange it right away." Allen left the sentence before rushing to fulfill the request.
