[BL] Accidentally Becoming the Healer of the Deranged Archduke -
Chapter 102: I can finally see you
Chapter 102: I can finally see you
Xion had seen plenty of grand buildings in Eldoria, but nothing prepared him for the overwhelming sight of Myrthiana.
The capital was truly a city of miracles. Magic flowed through the streets as easily as the air they breathed. On one corner, street performers were weaving spells and stunning the crowd with tricks that defied nature itself.
The people were showing off the full range of their power just for the fun of it. Xion could only stare in awe.
It was as if the city itself was imbued with magic. No, it was more like the city was magic.
The streets were lined with towering structures of white stone, covered in elegant decorations that shimmered under the warm sun. The air smelled of freshly baked bread, spices, and a faint trace of incense from the nearby temples.
The more he saw, the more he realized that this city was truly one of a kind, and also one of the richest cities he had seen so far.
Soon, the carriage stopped moving. Xion stood outside the grand church, helping Noxian out, while his eyes were scanning the massive building ahead.
The entrance was flanked by towering white pillars that seemed to stretch into the heavens themselves. But it was the huge statue just beyond the metallic gates that truly captured his attention.
Xion stepped inside to see clearly. The angel was carved from pure white stone. Its four wings spread wide in an open circle as if welcoming the world itself into its warm embrace.
The angel stood proudly in the center of the garden, surrounded by blooming flowers that seemed to pulse with life.
Xion narrowed his eyes, trying to look closely, but the angel’s face was partially obscured by a cloth. By now, he knew that it was a tradition.
It was believed that the chosen humans were the perfect vessels to summon the aura of the goddess.
The idea was that humans could never bear to look at the divine aura of the goddess. Hence, the saints, or servants of the goddess as they liked to call themselves, would cover their faces during special circumstances.
Just like the angel in front...
Xion gazed at the statue for a long time. It was unlike anything he had ever seen. After a moment of contemplation, he lowered his hood and stepped closer to the entrance with Noxian and Allen at his sides.
Inside the church, Xion couldn’t help but feel out of place. It was huge, bigger than any church he had seen until now. There were rows upon rows of desks for devotees to pray along with a life-sized statue of Goddess Myrthia along with her angel bowing at her feet.
Even when he tried to connect the face of the goddess to the one in his memory, there was not much resemblance. It was really not the real image.
Shaking his head, his gaze went to the group walking closer to the main altar.
There was a priest clad in ceremonial robes. With his polite smile, he looked every bit like a kind uncle. That was if one ignored his mean-looking eyes.
He was busy showing the place to a group of high nobles.
Just one look and Xion knew the difference in status was proportional to the treatment one would get. The nobles were treated with the utmost respect, and their every need was catered to.
Perhaps his clothes were not fancy enough, or the way he had just looked around without giving any offerings was not up to the standard. He was completely ignored.
He rolled his eyes and walked off, letting them enjoy their reverence while he explored on his own.
"You guys can stay here. I want to stroll around a bit."
Allen hesitated before agreeing. Anyway, he had placed a short-term spell on Xion. If there was any trouble, he would be alerted.
"I will pray here, then," Allen spoke while grabbing Noxian by his collar.
He could already tell that Allen would take his time in the holy space, and Noxian, being Noxian, would probably end up fidgeting through the entire ceremony.
Ignoring the puppy eyes of the little boy, Xion slowly followed the direction pointed out on the map.
The back garden... He wanted to see what kind of statues or things were in the back garden, which was not open to the public.
As for whether the rich nobles were allowed there, Xion had no idea.
It did not take him long to avoid the knights patrolling the area and reach his destination.
Although the grass was trimmed, there were not that many flowers.
Xion walked forward until he reached an open pavilion. The space was simple, with four massive pillars supporting a circular shed overhead to offer shade to those who sought to rest.
Xion’s attention was drawn to a figure sitting under one of the pillars. The old man had his face covered with a dark robe, and Xion could hear the loud snoring from his flaring nostrils.
He was wearing simple almost torn clothes, but Xion knew that this person, who could so openly sleep here, was no ordinary man.
Just as Xion stepped closer, the snoring stopped. Xion could not see it, but he could sense it. The piercing gaze suddenly fell on his body.
The gaze was far sharper, and somehow more unnerving, as if the old man could see straight through him.
"You’re here," the old man said in a raspy voice.
Xion looked to his left and then to his right, but there was no other figure in sight.
"I am talking to you, soul from another world." The robe slipped off the old man’s face as he silently gazed at Xion with a very gentle smile. "I can finally see you, Xion."
Xion stood there. His eyes widened slightly. His hands, covered under the long sleeves of his hood, clenched at his sides until his nails dug into his palm. But other than that, there was no obvious indication of the real turmoil rising in his heart.
