Chapter 101: Chapter 096: Who Gave You the Courage? (One more update)
Just as the baseball bat was about to strike her head, Yi Luowa raised her hand to grab it, but Tong Airui spun around and shielded her tightly in his arms.
"Bang!" The sound rang out as the bat landed heavily on Tong Airui’s back.
"Ugh!" Tong Airui let out a muffled groan.
That blow felt as though it had struck Yi Luowa herself, and she cried out in pain, "Tong Airui!"
"I’m fine!" Tong Airui furrowed his brows and shook his head.
Seeing their master take a hit, several bodyguards couldn’t remain calm anymore. They surged forward, knocking Yi Shaoqing, who had raised the bat again, to the ground.
The leading bodyguard glanced at Tong Airui, whose face was contorted in pain, and asked, "Master, are you alright?"
"I’m fine." Tong Airui leaned against Yi Luowa’s shoulder, casting a cold glance at Yi Shaoqing, who was pinned to the floor. "Who gave you the audacity?"
Yi Shaoqing glared fiercely at Yi Luowa. "Yi Luowa, why did you hurt my sister?"
Yi Luowa pointed to her nose incredulously. "Me, hurt her? Yi Lingfei told you that?"
"Stop pretending to be the good guy!" Yi Shaoqing cried out, "If you hadn’t come, my mom wouldn’t have gotten into trouble! My sister and I wouldn’t be living so miserably! We’ve lost everything, and now you even hurt my sister! I hate you! Wahhh..."
"All of this is caused by your wonderful mother!" Yi Luowa’s hands shook slightly as she supported Tong Airui, a mix of anger and heartache consuming her. After yelling at Yi Shaoqing, tears welled in Yi Luowa’s eyes as she gazed at Tong Airui. "Can you still walk? Let me help you check on it."
"I can manage." Tong Airui tested his movements cautiously.
"Master, how should we handle this punk?" The bodyguards asked hurriedly as Tong Airui prepared to leave.
Tong Airui lowered his gaze to Yi Luowa. "That’s up to you!"
Yi Luowa wiped at her damp nose and stared at Yi Shaoqing, who was sprawled on the ground. "Call the police!"
Yi Shaoqing glared at her resentfully, just about to curse her out before a bodyguard immediately covered his mouth.
Yi Shaoqing hated Yi Luowa’s cruelty but didn’t realize she was actually thinking of him. Without giving him a lesson this time, she feared he might resort to using a knife the next.
Tong Airui turned to his men. "Do as your mistress commands!"
Yi Luowa spared him a glance and supported him into the lobby.
The bodyguards dispersed to handle their duties—one called the police, and the others guarded Tong Airui as he entered the lobby.
Inside the elevator, Yi Luowa couldn’t hold back any longer and broke into sobs.
"I’m fine, don’t cry." Tong Airui raised his hand, wiping away her tears.
Yi Luowa pursed her lips and choked out, "You idiot! What if that bat had struck your head? I can protect myself! Why did you insist on taking the hit for me?"
"What if you couldn’t protect yourself and got hurt?" Tong Airui ruffled her hair gently. "Don’t cry now. Your eyes will get all red, and that won’t look good."
"It’d be too late if something happened! Tong Airui, you’re a big fool! Wahhh..." Yi Luowa threw herself into Tong Airui’s arms, crying uncontrollably.
The bodyguards in the elevator exchanged looks, finally understanding why their master hadn’t immediately ordered them to subdue the guy earlier. He was trying to win the mistress’s sympathy! In truth, they misunderstood Tong Airui. At the time, he held them back partly because Yi Shaoqing was cowardly; he didn’t believe Shaoqing would truly act. But mainly, Yi Shaoqing hadn’t physically hurt Yi Luowa yet, and he feared his men might injure Shaoqing, making Yi Luowa upset.
Despite the pain in his back, Tong Airui wore a smile. Though the circumstances were somewhat extreme, the little girl had taken the initiative to throw herself into his arms—that was worth it!
The elevator arrived at the ninth floor, and without a backward glance, the bodyguards exited first.
Yi Luowa supported Tong Airui out of the elevator and said to her family’s bodyguard stationed in the hallway, "Find Dr. Mai and ask him to come to Tong Airui’s room."
The bodyguard acknowledged the task and headed to the doctor’s office.
Yi Luowa helped Tong Airui back to his room, dropping her shopping bags in frustration. "What are we going to do now? You can’t lie down face-first because of the injury in front, and you can’t lie flat because of the injury on your back."
"Then I’ll sit." Tong Airui smiled, reaching out to take her backpack off her shoulders. "It’s nothing serious; it’ll stop hurting in a bit."
"Of course it still hurts!" Yi Luowa pouted, moving behind him to check his back. As she lifted his shirt, her eyes welled up again at the sight. "It’s swollen already!"
"Better it hit me than you!" Tong Airui pulled his shirt back down and turned to look at her, saying, "If that blow had landed on you, I’d be the one in pain."
Yi Luowa’s teary eyes locked onto his. "But now it’s hurting me! I’d rather take the hit myself than see you hurt. Let Dr. Mai check it over later—I really hope this doesn’t aggravate your old injury. Tong Airui, I truly regret it now; I should never have hurt you back then."
"I was wrong too—I shouldn’t have forced you to take off your clothes." Tong Airui reached out and pulled her into his arms. "But if it weren’t for that incident, we wouldn’t have gotten here. Being able to meet you again—it’s all worth it. Luowa, I really like you. What about you? Do you have even a little bit of feelings for me?"
Yi Luowa sniffled. "I... I don’t dislike you. These past few days, I’ve only been against you because of your foul temper..."
"I’ll change! I promise I’ll change! Honestly, my temper isn’t bad—it’s just lately I’ve been so anxious and uncertain. You’re to blame for that—if you’d agreed to me earlier, I wouldn’t be so volatile. Luowa, please say yes. Be my girlfriend, okay?"
