Chapter 499: Chapter 499: Hidden in the Little Bell
Wen Xiao’ai lifted the covers and peered underneath the bed.
"Baozi? Are you there?"
"Sister?"
A white figure, nearly merged with the wall, appeared in the corner.
Upon seeing the boy appear in the corner, Wen Xiao’ai immediately waved at him.
"Come here."
The boy crouched beside the bed.
Wen Xiao’ai lay on the edge of the bed so she was about the same height as him.
"I thought you had left."
"I have nowhere to go, I will always follow sister."
"Mm-hmm, always follow me, I will protect you."
"Sister, keep your voice down, don’t let that human discover me," the boy said, glancing fearfully in the direction of the bathroom.
"You don’t have to be afraid of him, he’s really nice," Wen Xiao’ai said, though she subconsciously lowered her voice.
"But I’m still afraid of him," the boy admitted awkwardly.
He was truly afraid, not only of the fear one feels towards strangers but also of a nameless fear that sprouted from deep within his heart.
Whenever he saw him, whenever he felt the aura emanating from him, the boy would experience an overwhelming sense of oppression, as if he couldn’t catch his breath.
This feeling, he had only felt in the Netherworld when he encountered some of the more powerful Ghost Messengers.
"Alright then, if you don’t like him I won’t introduce you two, anyway, he can’t see you or hear you speak, you can’t communicate with him."
"Mm."
"By the way, did you sleep in this room last night?"
"I crouched in that corner all night," the boy said.
"Why didn’t you come up to bed, the bed is very big, several more people could sleep on it." Hearing the boy had crouched in the corner all night, Wen Xiao’ai felt guilty.
She had been playing with Baozi last night and didn’t even realize when she had fallen asleep herself.
She hadn’t properly settled Baozi.
"Better not, that human has some strange energy about him, I dare not get close to him."
"What strange energy?"
"I don’t know, but it just scares me, and besides, we ghosts don’t need to sleep."
"Don’t sleep? Wouldn’t that make you very tired?"
"Not at all, when sister goes to bed, Baozi will guard you. If there’s any noise, I’ll wake you up immediately."
The thought of doing something for Wen Xiao’ai filled the boy with joy.
"Heh heh, then I appreciate it," Wen Xiao’ai reached out and, like the night before, pretended to pat the boy’s intangible head.
"Baozi, I might follow Jun Moyan to the company later, can you go out during the day?"
"No, we ghosts can’t be exposed to the sun, it’s very easy for us to dissipate," the boy shook his head.
"Ah, then what should we do?" Wen Xiao’ai frowned in concern.
"Umm..." The boy thought for a moment, "Does sister have something on you that I can hide in? As long as there’s a small space, that will do."
"Something?"
Wen Xiao’ai stood up and looked over herself, searching for an object suitable for the boy to hide in.
The crisp and pleasant sound of a bell rang out, and Wen Xiao’ai looked at the little bell on her wrist, her eyes lighting up.
Excited, she asked the boy,
"Baozi, would this work?"
The boy looked at her bell, his intangible body wavered, and he transformed into a wisp of white smoke, diving into the little bell engraved with the word "Good."
Then he emerged from the bell again, happily telling Wen Xiao’ai, "It works."
"Great! Then from now on, when I go out, I’ll carry you like this. I’ll cast a spell on this little bell to prevent others and those little ghosts from the Netherworld from finding you. And as for Jun Moyan, if you are afraid of the energy he carries, I’ll block it for you."
