Chapter 6: The Joy of an Older Sister That You Don’t Understand! On-Set Couples!
“Xiao Lang, why are you here?”
After finishing a lip-syncing rehearsal, Datian Tian spotted Shen Lang and felt a mix of surprise and delight.
Was this little guy clinging to her now?
As expected, no one can resist this princess!
Just look at him, she’d only claimed him yesterday, and now he couldn’t bear to be apart from her.
Of course, Shen Lang had no idea about Datian Tian’s narcissism.
The reason he came over was simply to avoid being ogled and coveted by Jia Lin and Zhang Xiaofei.
Rather than letting other female demons eye him, he figured he might as well stick with Datian Tian.
After all, Datian Tian was his woman!
And her co-star, Jiang Shuying, wasn’t bad-looking either.
Even if Jiang Shuying had designs on him… well, that might not be so bad.
, The joy of an older sister is something you just don’t understand!
“I came to see how you were doing, Sweetie-jie…”
“Everything’s going great~”
Datian Tian pouted playfully and naturally stepped forward, looping her arm through Shen Lang’s.
Jiang Shuying thought to herself: How shameless can you get?
Is this really how ‘siblings’ act?
More like a ‘dry’ (fourth tone) relationship, if you ask me.
But despite her thoughts, Jiang Shuying smiled and said:
“Shen Lang, your name is so lovely…”
“Did your parents name you after watching Outlaws of the Marsh?”
She was just making small talk.
Hearing this, Datian Tian tilted her head and blinked her big, curious eyes at Shen Lang, echoing the question:
“Xiao Lang, is that true?”
Shen Lang had no answer. He genuinely didn’t know the origin of his name.
His relationship with his parents was hazy at best.
He barely saw them once a year because they were always stationed in the military, often not even returning for holidays.
Take this year’s New Year, for example, Shen Lang stayed in Beijing instead of going back home.
Originally, he planned to spend it with his uncle, Shen Teng.
But since he’d already claimed Datian Tian, he naturally chose to accompany her for the holidays. He wasn’t the type to hit it and quit it.
And so, Shen Lang found himself surrounded by two older sisters, Datian Tian and Jiang Shuying.
Datian Tian made no effort to hide her affection, openly clinging to Shen Lang’s arm as if marking her territory.
Jiang Shuying, though subtler, still found ways to touch him casually during conversation, taking every chance to sneak a little contact.
The sight of this made their co-star, Li Yifeng, burn with envy.
Why him?
Just because he’s better-looking than me?
No way, I’m the most handsome man in the entertainment industry!
If I made it to the Spring Festival Gala, it’s because of my own hard work (and capital backing).
What right does Shen Lang, a nobody, have to be here?
Li Yifeng eavesdropped for a while before pulling out his phone to search for information on “Shen Lang.”
Oh, so he’s a nepo baby?
Big deal!
Still, Li Yifeng knew better than to act recklessly.
Having survived in the entertainment industry this long, he understood who he could and couldn’t afford to offend.
Shen Lang might not be famous yet, but his uncle was Shen Teng.
Shen Teng, an actor from Happy Mahua, whose breakout role in Goodbye Mr. Loser had cemented him as a top-tier comedic actor.
Then came Never Say Die, proving his box-office appeal.
Now, he was filming Hello Mr. Billionaire, set for a summer 2018 release.
Sure, Shen Teng wasn’t a “10-billion-yuan box office king” yet.
But!
The industry’s big players had high expectations for him.
Case in point: When Taiwanese investors wanted to insert their own actress into Hello Mr. Billionaire, they had to kick out the original female lead, Ma Li, just to secure Shen Teng’s star power.
And that wasn’t even mentioning Datian Tian’s untouchable background.
Li Yifeng knew better than to mess with them. He could only grumble internally.
Still, he wasn’t about to stand around doing nothing. Clearing his throat, he reminded Datian Tian and Jiang Shuying to resume their lip-syncing rehearsals.
Datian Tian tugged Shen Lang’s sleeve, insisting he stay with her.
Shen Lang agreed, he wasn’t going anywhere.
Roaming freely backstage at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala wasn’t an option.
If his uncle Shen Teng had been around, he might’ve killed time with him instead.
Time flew by in the whirlwind of rehearsals.
Before they knew it, evening arrived.
Throughout the day, Shen Lang stayed by Datian Tian’s side.
Naturally, Jiang Shuying also managed to get his WeChat and phone number.
Step one, check.
As for step two? She’d have to wait until Datian Tian wasn’t around to make her move.
Maybe I should offer him some industry connections?
Jiang Shuying decided it was a solid plan.
If she could collaborate with Shen Lang on a project, then… Heh heh heh, she’d have her chance to claim this little puppy and experience the entertainment industry’s unspoken rule: on-set couples!
At 8 PM, the 2018 CCTV Spring Festival Gala officially began.
Datian Tian clutched Shen Lang’s hand nervously, her eyes silently pleading for comfort.
Shen Lang reassured her, telling her to relax, as long as she didn’t hold the microphone upside down or mess up the lip-syncing too badly, she’d be fine.
Datian Tian burst out laughing and lightly smacked his arm. “Who in the world would hold a microphone backward?”
Jiang Shuying also laughed, thanking Shen Lang for lightening the mood with his joke.
A joke? Not really.
Because holding a microphone backward had actually happened before, on CCTV’s stage, no less, during one of their Lantern Festival galas.
Datian Tian and Jiang Shuying didn’t know because they weren’t singers and hadn’t paid attention to such incidents.
While the entertainment industry had few real secrets, not every scandal or mishap reached every celebrity’s ears.
With Shen Lang keeping them company, time passed quickly.
Li Yifeng, feeling like a third wheel, briefly considered letting Shen Lang perform in his place.
…Yeah, right.
Even if he wanted to, CCTV would never allow it.
The Spring Festival Gala had zero tolerance for mistakes.
One slip-up, and you’d be blacklisted from all future CCTV events, or any mainstream galas, for that matter.
Before long, a staff member arrived to notify Datian Tian, Jiang Shuying, and Li Yifeng that their performance was coming up and they needed to prepare.
Shen Lang gave Datian Tian an encouraging hug. “You’ve got this.”
Not to be outdone, Jiang Shuying boldly demanded a hug too.
Datian Tian: Shaking with rage!
