Chapter 951 - Chapter 951 Chapter 951 Gu Cultivators Are Ruthless
Chapter 951: Chapter 951: Gu Cultivators Are Ruthless Chapter 951: Chapter 951: Gu Cultivators Are Ruthless The Liao Family Brothers questioned three caravans in succession and finally understood that the butterfly belonged to Mountain Master Feng, shepherd of spirit plants.
They also figured out the matter with the Gu Insects; not long ago, Mountain Master Feng intervened to help a disciple from a major sect to expel the Gu Insects.
In fact, such news is not much of a secret on Mount Zhige–excluding Gu Insects is typically done in an open environment.
Even when Feng Jun was helping Liang Huan remove poison, he didn’t do it secretly but merely required the disciples of the Tianxin Platform to be on alert in the surroundings.
“Another major sect disciple…” The Liao Family Brothers listened with a bit of frustration.
Aside from the first caravan from the Yu Family, they intended to silence the other two, but realizing Mount Zhige had connections with so many powers, they really had to consider the consequences.
After they restrained these people, Elder Liao Brother suggested, “Why not just pay respect to the mountain? This place can hardly be considered part of the Mortal Realm… What a pity, it wasted our time gathering information.”
Second Liao Brother shook his head, firmly opposing, “That’s not appropriate. He has direct relations with those people, and with the support of so many elders, if he incites them, we might end up getting killed.”
That’s right, the situation for Gu Cultivators is that dire; other cultivators don’t bother with them simply because there’s no reason to make a move.
“Have you lost your mind?” Elder Liao Brother glanced at him with annoyance, “Don’t we have Tiantong? What are you worried about?”
This is why Gu Cultivators care about Tiantong. Tiantong’s profit-oriented nature, while criticized by many, ensures impartial and non-discriminatory service to clients–for the most part, discrimination isn’t too severe.
So, what was originally an obstacle for the brothers has now become their reliance; hence, one should not casually provoke Tiantong.
But Second Liao Brother seemed resolute in opposing his elder brother, “Let Tiantong mediate? That would make us lose face.”
The brothers discussed for a long time and decided it was best not to directly approach Feng Jun or Tiantong–Gu Cultivators have their dignity too.
Therefore, they planned to deploy Gu Insects directly, making the other party feel their strength, which would make negotiations easier for them.
Their targets for deploying the Gu Insects were the people and caravans heading to Mount Zhige.
As Gu Cultivators in the Detached Spirit Stage, the Liao Family Brothers’ techniques were first-rate; even the two High-Rank cultivators on nearby Pine Cypress Peak didn’t notice what they were up to.
That night, a Gu Insect outbreak erupted in the town at the foot of Mount Zhige.
By the time Feng Jun received the news, over fifty people were afflicted, including some from the Tian and Yu Families.
They hoped that Hua Hua would act swiftly to resolve the Gu infestation.
However, Hua Hua first mentioned to Feng Jun, “Actually, I sensed the presence of Gu Cultivators yesterday. It was very strong.”
Feng Jun looked at it in surprise, “Then why didn’t you tell me?”
“Please, you’re all human cultivators; what am I?” Hua Hua replied with a sense of grievance, “You’re racially biased, don’t you know that?”
After pondering, Feng Jun asked, “At the gate? Could it be a Detached Spirit Stage Gu Cultivator?”
Hua Hua agreed with his guess, “I also think, it’s more likely to be a Detached Spirit Stage.”
Feng Jun sighed, “Let’s go check on the Gu Insects first.”
He himself was not inclined to show off his medical skills; his intervention was purely dependent on his mood and he had no interest in managing the conditions of the over six thousand residents of the town unless it was an epidemic.
But with the Gu Cultivators present, things were different; it was a matter of a cultivator’s dignity, and now someone had attacked his home turf.
He brought Hua Hua to the town, and with a cursory examination, found the trouble was rather significant; the key issue was that the attack came from a Detached Spirit Stage Gu Cultivator, and many of the Gu Insects were high tier.
Hua Hua also felt conflicted; there were quite a few Gu Insects of the same or even higher rank than itself. It really wanted to devour them to increase its cultivation level, but these Gu Insects were not easy to expel–there was no straightforward way to do it, at least not an overly simple one.
If there were only two or three, or even five or six patients, it wouldn’t be too troublesome, but now there were over fifty afflicted people; with Feng Jun’s skills, he couldn’t handle it.
Of course, there was a simple solution: kill the Gu Cultivator casting the Gu. Once the mother Gu is gone, the poison solves itself.
However, Hua Hua was somewhat reluctant; once the Gu Cultivator dies, all these Gu Insects would perish as well, “That’s a lot of experience points!”
Feng Jun was still pondering when he suddenly saw a fast horse approaching from a distance, ridden by a High Tier of Qi Refinement disciple from the Tianxin Platform.
The disciple was still about ten meters away when he reined in the horse, dismounted swiftly, and walked over to greet with a clasped fist, “Greetings, Master Feng.”
This scene unfolded openly before the villagers of the town–thus, outsiders were unaware of the intricacies of Mount Zhige not because Feng Jun was particularly secretive, but because there were many who kept their mouths shut.
Now, although he still had to stay prudent, he did not need to remain utterly watertight–after all, two Spirit Gathering Arrays had been established; what more did he have to worry about?
Tianxin Platform Disciples came because they also heard that someone in the town was afflicted by a Gu.
Luo Shuchen immediately flew into a rage. He didn’t want to consider what relationship the arriving Gu Cultivators had with Liang Huan; he only knew that Tianxin Platform Disciples had been harmed by Gu Cultivators for seven or eight years, consuming a massive amount of resources.
Even if the Gu Cultivators didn’t come knocking, he still didn’t know where to find a few Gu Cultivators to vent his anger on.
Therefore, upon hearing the news, he immediately sent a Disciple riding a horse over, stating very clearly–if Feng Jun wishes to fight the Gu Cultivators, don’t hold back at all, Tianxin Platform must be counted in.
At this point, Feng Jun couldn’t afford to be polite either, because with a slight calculation, he knew that if the Gu Cultivator responsible for setting the Gu couldn’t be found, some of the patients wouldn’t last a day and night.
Feng Jun turned his head to glance at Lang Zhen beside him, “Check quickly, if there were any suspicious people at the mountain gate yesterday noon.”
Tianxin Platform Disciples worried Feng Senior might not think of certain crucial points, “Senior, my Master Uncle there can also detect Gu Insects!”
Upon hearing this, Feng Jun suddenly had an epiphany, and without hesitating any further, he released the Time Shuttle, grabbed the Qi Refining Disciple, and headed straight for the gate outside the mountain.
When they reached outside the mountain gate, Luo Shuchen was already standing at the courtyard entrance of Tiantong, “Feng Senior, I wish to offer my help. However, could you ask Xu Senior to return and have a look at the courtyard?”
Xu Senior went to cultivate in the Spirit Gathering Array inside Mount Zhige, and Tiantong only had him as a Senior. However, Disciple Liang Huan was still recovering from his injuries and needed someone to watch over him.
If it had been a regular day, he wouldn’t be worried. In The Secular World, having a Qi Refinement Disciple on guard was reassuring enough. But now, with a Gu Cultivator attack, any slip-up would be problematic.
It was quite convenient for Mount Zhige to send out messages–the walkie-talkie called, and before long, Xu Senior flew back through the sky–in an emergency, the no-fly rule was ignored.
Feng Jun and Luo Shuchen went to the town once, discovering three Mortals who had been poisoned by Gu but hadn’t shown symptoms yet.
After finding the three people, they flew over Mount Zhige for a while, but the Gu Detection Compass didn’t pick up anything new.
“We’ll search along the main road later,” Feng Jun suggested through the walkie-talkie. He had already roughly gathered that the people who had outbreaks today had all arrived in the town on the same day, suggesting it was very likely a Gu Cultivator ambushed them outside of town.
In the town, he didn’t have a great opportunity to use his skills, and the “nearby people” weren’t as useful as the Gu Detection Compass.
But outside the town was a different story. He had high-power military binoculars in his hands.
Unlike before, since some thatch huts had been built by the roadside with people living in them–some were patrol teams, some were civilians hired to watch over, and there were also some destitute people hiding inside from the wind and snow.
Feng Jun could see these white dots and even observe some situations in the villages along the way.
For instance, there was a small village beside the road, about twelve or thirteen miles from the main road. Luo Shuchen’s compass wouldn’t detect that; only if Feng Jun took him and pointed out the direction of the village could they go to test it.
The two men had their methods and coordinated quite tacitly.
Luo Shuchen initially thought Feng Jun was thoroughly familiar with the area, which didn’t seem too strange. But every so often, he would see Feng Jun manipulate an object to his eye before deciding the next direction, arousing his curiosity.
He pointed to the high-power binoculars in the other’s hand, “What’s this?”
“Night Vision Binoculars,” Feng Jun casually replied, “Just a swift scan and you’ll know if there’s anyone ahead.”
Luo Shuchen was greatly amazed, “Binoculars are not rare, but what’s special is the night vision… can I take a look?”
Feng Jun passed the binoculars to him while taking the Gu Detection Compass from Luo Shuchen and began fiddling with it.
Soon, Luo Shuchen figured out how to use this device, “This thing… is really quite good. Is there one that can see even further?”
“There is,” Feng Jun nodded, but did not take it out, “But binoculars that see too far will shake in your hands, and even a slight breeze can make them quiver… This binoculars can see for twenty miles, which is enough.”
Luo Shuchen asked bluntly, “Could you give this to me? Is it possible?”
People of Tianxin Platform really are straightforward! Feng Jun raised the Gu Detection Compass in his hand, “Then give this to me, how about that?”
“How can they be the same?” Luo Shuchen listened and rolled his eyes; thankfully it was night and his expression wasn’t visible, “Binoculars are not so rare; the specialty of your binoculars is night vision.”
He genuinely didn’t believe binoculars were that precious; they were just relatively uncommon. Once one ascends to the rank of Golden Core Master, who would still need such a thing?
They were perhaps useful in the hands of those at the Qi Refinement and Foundation Building stages, but they weren’t too expensive, topping out at a few hundred Spirit Stones–to tell the truth, they really were hard to come by.
The genuine usefulness was in its night vision capability, after entering the night, neither the visibility of sentries nor secret guards were limitless, making it very helpful in guarding camps.
“Gu Detection Compass, on the other hand, is different. Don’t think it’s rarely used; once Gu Cultivators invade, it can play its role the fastest, and it’s very helpful in stabilizing the morale of the people… The key is that the art of making it has already been lost.”
The two chatted idly as they flew back and forth searching for Gu Cultivators. The saying goes, the skilled are brave, and indeed that was the case, especially since both had treasures for detection.
“Hush,” the next moment, Feng Jun hushed in a low voice, “Luo Fellow Cultivator, come look… is this the discovery of a Gu Insect?”
