Chapter 57: Did You Extract Anything Young Lady?
"Your Highness!"
The urgent cry echoed through the gilded royal chamber as Lupien’s personal eunuch burst in, panic and dread etched across his pale face. His sudden intrusion sent a ripple of tension through the room.
Lupien’s fiery gaze snapped toward the eunuch, fury igniting in his blood-red eyes. He was reclining lazily upon his golden throne, surrounded by half-naked pleasure slaves. One of them had her mouth around his erect dragon, while he fondled the soft breasts of another. A third stood by his side, feeding him grapes with trembling hands. The room had been filled with moans and soft laughter until now.
Lupien’s expression darkened, storm clouds gathering in his gaze. "What is the meaning of this disturbance?" he growled. "Have you grown tired of living, dog?"
The eunuch dropped to his knees instantly, forehead pressed against the cold marble floor. His body trembled violently. "Forgive me, Your Highness!" he wailed. "Forgive my insolence, but I bring dire news. Grave news, Your Majesty!"
Lupien raised his hand sharply. The women stilled, and with practiced obedience, they slid away from him and retreated silently to the shadows.
"Speak," Lupien commanded, his voice as cold as steel. "What misfortune dares interrupt my peace this time?"
Tears spilled freely down the eunuch’s cheeks as he struggled to find his voice. "The royal imperial concubine, Your Majesty..." he began, choking on each word, "She was attacked."
"Attacked?" Lupien repeated, slowly rising to his full height, the silk of his robes trailing behind him like a vengeful storm cloud. His voice thundered through the chamber. "Who dares lay a hand on what belongs to me?! Was the coward captured?"
The eunuch shook his head frantically. "No, Your Highness. That is not the worst of it. The imperial concubine... she is dead."
For a moment, there was silence. Deafening. Suffocating.
"She died a horrible death, your highness," the eunuch continued, voice breaking. "Her stomach was sliced open. A deliberate, brutal act. The child within her womb is gone. We do not know if the baby was taken or perished with her, but... but there was no trace of it. The maids who accompanied her were all slain as well."
Blood drained from Lupien’s face, but only for a moment. It was soon replaced with pure, unrestrained rage. "Who. Dared. To do this?" he snarled, his voice like thunder cracking over a battlefield.
"And what nonsense did you mutter before about it not being important to catch them?!" His voice rose again, sharper this time. "Do you mean to tell me you let the perpetrators escape?!"
The eunuch trembled violently, nearly choking on his sobs. "We did not find them, Your Majesty! The guards arrived too late. The attackers were already gone... only their vile deeds remained."
Lupien’s eyes blazed with fury. "Kill them all!" he roared, stepping down from the dais, each footstep like a drumbeat of war. "Kill every last one of those useless guards who failed to capture the assassins! Let their deaths serve as compensation for their incompetence."
The eunuch lifted his head slightly, eyes wide with disbelief. "Y-Your Highness...!"
"I want them to suffer," Lupien spat. "Sever their manhoods. Boil them. Feed it to them while they scream for mercy. If they have wives, capture them. Cut open their bellies as was done to my concubine. Let their pain echo tenfold."
The eunuch could barely remain upright, paralyzed with horror.
"And that is not all," Lupien continued, straightening his robes with slow, deadly calm. "Begin an investigation immediately. Find every thread of treachery, every whisper of rebellion. I want the truth dragged out with blood if necessary."
His gaze darkened further. "Summon the Beta Lord. Tell him to ready for war. Only my enemies could commit such barbarity. Perhaps this is their way of declaring war but they are fools. I don’t even want to know, those assassins are from somewhere hence you must find them."
He turned, his eyes glowing like burning coals.
"From this moment on, any pack that has not signed an alliance with us is to be considered an enemy. The Beta Lord will ride out. He is to raze their lands. Kill their warriors. Burn their homes. Seize their pregnant women, split their wombs open before their husbands’ eyes. Behead the men and hang their skulls upon our city gates as a warning."
With that, Lupien swept from the royal chamber, leaving only silence and the trembling figure of the eunuch behind.

At the mines...
The morning sun spilled gently through the cracks of the cave, casting a golden warmth over Sorayah’s delicate features. For a moment, peace lingered in the air.
But it didn’t last.
"Get up!" Theo’s urgent voice broke through the silence, piercing the serenity like a blade. "The werewolf guards are outside!"
Sorayah’s eyes snapped open. Her heart leapt into her throat. From beyond the walls of the cave, the clanging of metal echoed, shields, swords, armor. The unmistakable rhythm of authority.
She threw off the thin blanket Thoe had given her the night before and scrambled to her feet, her hands already moving for the nose mask. Theo was ahead of her, pulling his on with practiced speed.
A second later, they both emerged into the open, the heavy scent of blood and decay stinging their senses even through the protective cloth.
Waiting for them outside was Adam, flanked by two heavily armed werewolves, their sharp eyes scanning the area for any signs of threat or betrayal.
"Good morning, sires," Theo said with a respectful bow, lowering his eyes.
Sorayah mirrored the gesture.
Without waiting for permission, Theo strode toward the rusted metal drums beside the cave entrance. He pried one open.
Instantly, the foul stench hit them like a wave, putrid, coppery, thick with the aroma of rotting flesh and spilled blood. The stench of organs, carefully preserved yet reeking of death, filled the air. It was already stinking badly at the valley of death and now the organs added to it.
Sorayah swallowed down bile as the guards leaned in to inspect the contents.
"Good," Adam muttered as he scribbled a few words onto a sheet of paper. Then he turned toward Sorayah, his eyes gleaming with authority. "Where’s yours, young lady?"
"Huh?" Sorayah raised an eyebrow, confused, before turning toward Theo. "Where’s mine?"
"Yours?" Theo scoffed, folding his arms across his chest. "Did you extract anything, young lady?"
"What?!" Sorayah’s voice trembled with disbelief as she stared at him. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Hadn’t Theo promised she would receive a portion of the organs extracted?
