Betrayed By My Mate, Claimed By His Lycan King Uncle
Chapter 55: Protect That Maid At All Cost!

Chapter 55: Protect That Maid At All Cost!

Arata reclined on her feathered chair, a wide grin plastered on her face as she lazily rubbed her still-flat stomach. Her trusted maid stood beside her, plucking grapes from a silver tray and gently feeding them to her one by one, the sweet juices bursting in her mouth.

The rain had started falling heavily by now, but then the windows of her chambers had been closed while coal was been burnt at one side, keeping her warm.

Her personal servant who had been silent until now cleared her throat and finally decided to speak, a grin splitting her face. Her werewolf ears twitched in excitement, perking up involuntarily.

"Sorayah had been sent to the mines my lady," the maid murmured, her voice laced with satisfaction. "Her ladyship Mira was responsible for it. I heard from the other servants that Sorayah actually caused the death of her ladyship Mira’s two maids. She made used of a martial arts that actually makes your enemies hurt themselves instead of you."

Arata’s sharp eyes immediately caught the movement of the twitching ears, and she clicked her tongue. "How many times have I told you never to show your ears or tail before me? Or do you want them cut off?" Her voice carried a playful lilt, but a warning lurked beneath the jest. "I’ll make sure they never regenerate."

The maid gasped and quickly bowed her head in apology. "I’m sorry, my lady." A warm smile softened her face as her fluffy black ears vanished beneath her dark hair. "I was just so excited about this new development. The hatred between that maid and her ladyship Mira is growing more deeply."

Arata hummed in agreement, stretching her limbs before sitting up, her golden eyes gleaming with amusement. "That maid is bold, though. And her martial arts, how interesting. I can only imagine Mira’s reaction when a mere lowly maid challenged her. She must have been on the verge of madness!" She threw her head back in laughter, the sound echoing through the chamber. "I was right about Sorayah afterall . She is precisely the kind of person who can handle Mira. But it’s a pity, really. His Highness, the Beta Lord, interfered. Now he’s taking her to war... which means she’s going to die unless, of course, he decides otherwise."

The maid scoffed, as she dropped another grape into Arata’s mouth. "I don’t believe she’ll die. She already lay with the Beta Lord, after all. And you know as well as I do that His Highness wouldn’t dare end her life unless it’s been confirmed she doesn’t carry his child. Hybrids aren’t accepted in the werewolf kingdom, true, but he’s been childless all these years. He wouldn’t kill his own offspring with his own hands, not directly. He’d much rather force the mother to do it herself." Her voice carried an air of confidence, though a sliver of doubt flickered in her eyes."

Arata smirked, her fingers absentmindedly caressing her stomach. "You’re right and wrong at the same time," she mused, amusement dancing in her voice. "His Highness is unpredictable. He does whatever serves his interests at the moment. If he is tired of that maid, if she ceases to amuse him as a plaything that she is, he’ll kill her. He won’t care if his seed grows within her or not. He wouldn’t even bother to confirm anymore but end her life immediately. And Mira..." Arata’s smile darkened. "She is his first love. If killing Sorayah would soothe her anger, he wouldn’t hesitate."

She leaned back into her chair, fingers drumming against her stomach before chuckling wickedly. "Besides, he believes he already has another child growing inside me. A true werewolf." A burst of laughter spilled from her lips, her voice dripping with triumph.

The maid’s expression tightened. "Should we just wait for Sorayah’s death, then?" she asked, a heavy sigh escaping her lips. "If she dies, then don’t you think our plan failed? The aphrodisiac you drugged her with that night won’t start showing pregnancy effects for another month or two."

"That’s too long. If that happens and his highness kills Sorayah before she starts showing pregnancy symptoms which might actually spare her if discovered on time, then you won’t have time to set up another drama like this, you’ll have to leave the palace immediately. And now that we’re here in the palace and not his highness the beta lord mansion within the capital, escaping won’t be easy." She clenched her fists, frustration flashing in her eyes. "Even getting your lover a position in the palace was nearly impossible. Eloping will be far worse." The maid concluded.

Arata then heaved a heavy sigh as she leaned backward in her chair, her expression tense with worry now that her maid mentioned about her lover. " Where is Ramsey working now though?" she asked, her fingers unconsciously tightening around the fabric of her dress.

Her personal maid hesitated for a moment before answering. "He’s been assigned to the lowest rank in the palace section," she said with a heavy sigh. "He’s responsible for washing latrine pails and handling all the filth of the palace. It’s degrading work, but it keeps him out of sight. That’s the best place for him, hidden from prying eyes since I believed that when it’s time to elope, we can just fake his death. That should be easier I hope."

Arata exhaled sharply and placed a hand on her belly. "And yet, for me, it won’t be so easy as you’ve said I guess. It’s not like I can fake my death," she murmured. "Everyone knows I’m carrying the Beta Lord’s child. There hasn’t been a grand celebration yet, and some outside the palace may not be aware, but those within these walls certainly are. No secret escapes the palace’s ears and if I fake my death, I might actually die for real as i’ll be buried within the palace and never would my body be taken out of the palace."

Her maid nodded grimly. "Yes, my lady. That is the difficult part but then I believe there’s another way."

Arata’s fingers traced small circles over her stomach. "Exactly! There has to be another way. I had wanted my belly to grow bigger, ensure that I received great rewards from the Beta Lord and the noble families. If I had enough wealth and influence, I could secure a good life for myself and Ramsey once we escape. I planned to stir up dramas between Mira and Sorayah, ensuring that even after I was gone, Mira would still have a formidable opponent. But now... it feels like my plan is falling apart."

Her maid pursed her lips. "Not necessarily, my lady. Not until we confirm whether Sorayah survives the war. You’ve endured staying by the Beta Lord’s side despite the dangers because you wanted vengeance against Mira. Even if Mira doesn’t die, you wish for her to suffer. And Sorayah will not sit idly by. She will avenge her sister, it is only a matter of time. I don’t believe that maid will die without avenging her sister."

Arata’s eyes darkened. "If Sorayah returns alive, it means the aphrodisiac showed the signs of pregnancy and she was spared hence she’ll be promoted to a concubine rank even if it’s the lowest rank. From there, it’s up to her to earn his favor and rise, or be trampled by Mira."

Her maid’s voice held a note of steel. "That is why we must remain patient and strategic."

Arata exhaled slowly. "I hope that maid proves useful. She used some strange martial arts to make Mira kill her own maids afterall. If she’s that formidable, she should be able to survive the battlefield. But it’s a war between werewolves..." She hesitated and then turned to her maid with a sharp gaze. "Send word to our spies in the army. Protect that maid at all costs. She must live long enough to fulfill her purpose."

Her maid bowed deeply. "I understand, my lady. I will send a letter tonight."

A silence settled between them before Arata’s lips curved into a small, melancholic smile. "And another thing... I want to see Ramsey tonight. I miss him." Her fingers caressed her belly. "His child misses him too."

Her maid stiffened. "My lady..." she began hesitantly, dread creeping into her voice.

Arata cut her off swiftly. "I don’t want to hear your protests. I am aware of the risks. I know how dangerous it is to move within the palace. There are too many eyes, too many ears." Her voice softened, but her tone remained firm. "But I need him. I need to be held by him, to feel him. Pregnancy only intensifies this longing. You understand, don’t you?"

Her maid swallowed hard before bowing again. "I do, my lady. I will arrange for him to meet you tomorrow night in your chambers."

Arata leaned back, satisfaction flickering in her eyes. "Good. Now get to work."

"Yes, my lady." Her maid bowed once more before turning and leaving the chamber, her mind already working on the dangerous task ahead.

As the door closed, Arata let out a deep breath and rested her hands on her stomach. The future was uncertain, but for now, she vow to do everything in her power to ensure her plans did not crumble. She hated defeat and of course wouldn’t want to be defeated by Mira.
