Chapter 141: You’ll have to moan.

"After all," Dimitri added, voice laced with irony, "you would do anything for your Highness, wouldn’t you?"

Mira stared at him, her lips trembling, but the smug smirk on his face told her he wasn’t joking. Not even a little.

"I will do anything for Your Highness, of course," she said, her voice shaky, "but why must I be your bullseye when there are several targets in the training ground? Are you trying to kill me, Your Highness? Just asking me to stand there...it feels like ridicule. In front of your concubines... and the servants watching?" Her words faltered, and a sad expression crossed her face, her shoulders drooping under the weight of humiliation.

Dimitri didn’t look at her. His eyes were still fixed on the target ahead, the corners of his lips twitching. "How come you feel ridiculed," he asked calmly, "when all I wanted was to have a little fun? And why would I ever want to kill you? You’re my official wife, Mira. My chosen bride. This is just a game between us...why are you reading so deeply into it?"

"But why are you doing this, Your Highness?" Sorayah interjected softly, her voice low and unreadable as she raised a brow, but before she could speak further, Dimitri leaned into her. He rested his head gently on her shoulder, his warm breath brushing against the sensitive skin of her neck.

"To help you get your revenge," he murmured with a wide, devilish smirk, his voice filled with mischief and something darker. "Don’t worry...Mira will comply. After all, didn’t she just say she’d do anything for me?" His tone was light, teasing, but laced with an edge of cruelty. "And you, Sorayah," he added with a glint in his eye, "you really should stop complaining now, young lady. Live out the title of Favoured Consort perfectly."

Sorayah gave a small nod, her face calm, unreadable. But something flashed briefly in her eyes...approval.

After a long, tense silence, with Arata watching and the palace maids exchanging nervous glances, Mira finally took slow steps toward the bullseye. Her gown dragged slightly against the floor, her fingers trembling at her sides. She knew she couldn’t change Dimitri’s mind. He had already decided...and when he decided, no one dared oppose him.

"It’s time, Sorayah," Dimitri said suddenly. The way he said her name..low, commanding, intimate made Sorayah swallow hard. It sent a strange thrill down her spine.

They both raised the bow, taking position, aiming carefully. Mira stood frozen at the target, her entire body trembling.

TWACK!

An arrow tore through the air, slicing the stillness. It whizzed past Mira’s head and embedded itself into her elaborately styled hair...just a few inches off course and it would have struck her skull.

"Y...your Highness..." Mira whispered weakly as she turned, her eyes wide in disbelief. But before she could say another word, her knees buckled and she collapsed to the ground in a dead faint.

A warm smile touched Sorayah’s lips, and even Dimitri paused for a heartbeat. surprised by how her beauty seemed to sharpen in that moment.

"Her Ladyship Mira might appear fierce on the surface," Dimitri said coolly, turning away from the bullseye, "but beneath it all, she’s as soft as a dove."

Then, without warning, in one fluid movement, he lifted Sorayah into his arms bridal-style.

"What are you doing? Put me down, Your Highness!" Sorayah exclaimed, wriggling in his grip. But Dimitri didn’t respond, not even with a glance. He continued walking with steady determination, carrying her out of the training ground, leaving behind an unconscious Mira, the ever-smiling Arata, and a group of stunned palace servants who dared not speak a word.

Once inside his private chamber, Dimitri gently laid Sorayah down on his bed. The soft sheets cradled her form, and she sighed, realizing that the pain in her body had almost completely faded. Her magical powers had already begun healing her from within.

"Thank you... Your Highness," she murmured quietly, eyes downcast. But when she dared to lift her gaze, she found herself face-to-face with Dimitri, who was now leaning closer. His expression was unreadable, his eyes piercing. Their lips hovered mere inches apart, and Sorayah instinctively braced herself with one hand to keep from collapsing backward onto the bed.

Her balance faltered anyway, and she fell completely onto the mattress.. just as Dimitri moved above her, pinning her gently beneath him.

Her breath caught in her throat.

"What are you trying to do, Your Highness?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "This marriage... it’s meant to help us achieve our political goals, not for engaging in any intimacy. You promised to respect that boundary." Her hands pressed firmly against his chest, trying to create space between them, her heart pounding wildly.

"It’s Dimitri," he corrected, his voice suddenly quiet but firm. "When we’re alone, you’re only allowed to call me by my name."

Sorayah swallowed hard, her eyes flickering. All this fuss... just because I forgot to call him by his name? Fine. Noted, she thought to herself, exhaling sharply.

"I’ve heard you... Dimitri. I’m sorry. I forgot...just for a moment," she finally replied, her tone carefully even. "Now, can you please get off me?"

Dimitri didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he rolled off her with a sigh and lay beside her for a moment, gazing at the ceiling before speaking again.

"Anyway, you’re coming with me out of the palace tomorrow."

Sorayah turned her head to look at him, brows furrowed. "Why? Concubine Arata is supposed to be going to the temple, isn’t she? And she’s going to be attacked on the way there. Why do we have to be present. Your guards can do the job and report."

"Yes," Dimitri said, his tone now serious. "But the attack won’t come from us...it will be from someone else. No other than Mira."

Sorayah’s eyes widened slightly. "Mira? She’s going to attack Arata?" She hesitated before asking, "Then what’s exactly the point of us going if someone else is handling it?"

Dimitri smirked, the glint of cruel satisfaction returning to his face. "Because I want to see them. I want to watch those two adulterers with my own eyes. I want to see their expressions. their panic when they realize they’re not as clever as they think they are."

He sat up slightly, resting an arm behind his head. "Besides, we’ll be going out discreetly. No one will know we left the palace. Everyone will believe we stayed inside all night... making love. And by morning, they’ll assume we’re still in bed.. tired and tangled in each other from hours of passion."

Sorayah blinked, startled. "Huh? And... how exactly do you intend to make them believe that?"

"Well," he said with a mischievous grin, "I’ll need your help with the performance. You’ll have to... moan."

"What?" Sorayah choked on her own breath, coughing violently. "What are you saying, Dimitri?! That’s... That’s.."

"Too much?" he finished for her, raising an eyebrow. "Come on. It’s not like we haven’t done it before."

Sorayah quickly reached out and covered his mouth with her hand. "Must you remind me of that?" she asked, her voice low and strained. "It happened once and not because we wanted it to. We only did it because we had to, for survival. Don’t twist the reason."

He pulled her hand away gently, not breaking eye contact. "Still, it happened. And you know how to moan. I’m just saying... tonight, you’ll be moaning long and loud enough for the whole palace to hear." His voice turned low, dangerous. "Your throat might hurt by morning. But I’ll make it up to you. I promise."

Sorayah’s chest tightened all while she swallowed hard.

"If I want to become the Alpha Emperor," Dimitri continued, "then Arata has to die. Mira is jealous enough to make the move. And yes...she wont betray me. She already knows the origin of my curse."

He sat up again, resting his elbows on his knees. "You and Mira... you’re the only two who know about my curse. Once Arata is dead, I’ll tear that man who impregnated her into a million pieces. Then the entire incident will be portrayed as a tragic accident. No one will suspect that I’m incapable of fathering a child...yet. Once I become the Alpha emperor, then I still get some things to discuss with you but until then. Let’s take care of all these first."

Sorayah looked away, her expression carefully masked.

Oh, and once you ascend the throne, you’ll show me who you really are, won’t you? she thought, her fingers curling into the sheets. Will you still try to talk to me gently? Or will you use force? Will I need to sacrifice myself just to lift this curse of yours? Or is there another way...something you’re not telling me? Either way... you’re just waiting to become the next Alpha.

"I’ve heard you... Dimitri," she said aloud at last, her lips curving into a soft, unreadable smile. "I’ll do just that then."

But in her heart, she wasn’t smiling at all.
