Chapter 150: Bullets and Knives

TERESA’S P.O.V.

The mansion loomed before me as I sprinted through the double doors, my heart hammering against my ribs. Every step echoed with my fears, my mind racing back to Mai, to the witches, to the helplessness that had once consumed me that day. The mere thought of my innocent angels being taken from me again was enough to make my heart seize. Not this time.

"Adam! Max!" I called out, my voice steady despite the storm of panic threatening to swallow me whole.

"We’re here, Teresa," Max’s voice boomed from behind me as he and Adam burst through the door, their expressions grim and determined.

"upstairs, now," I ordered, my voice sharper than I’d intended. They didn’t question me. They knew what was at stake.

We moved as one, my bare feet pounding against the cold floor as we ascended the stairs. The dim light flickered, shadows dancing ominously along the walls. My heart skipped when I reached my room door, dread pooling in my stomach.

"Katrina!" I shouted, slamming the door open.

Inside, Katrina stood by the crib, her hands protectively cradling the twins. Her face was pale but calm, her sharp eyes scanning me as I stopped just short of the crib.

"They’re fine, Teresa," she said softly.

Relief slammed into me like a tidal wave, and I staggered, my knees threatening to give way. I rushed forward, my trembling hands brushing over the soft cheeks of my babies.

"They’re okay," I whispered, my voice breaking.

But relief was fleeting. A familiar fire ignited in my chest, fierce and stronger than anything I have ever felt. I kissed my babies’ foreheads, then straightened, turning toward the closet. I yanked it open, revealing the sleek black rifle Adrian had given me.

"Adrian," I murmured, running a hand over the smooth barrel. "I hope you knew how much I’d need this."

I grabbed the rifle, the silver bullets nestled beside it, and loaded the chamber with precise movements. Knives followed—two strapped to my thighs and another tucked into my boot.

"Teresa, what’s the plan?" Adam asked, his voice taut as he watched me.

"We defend this house," I said fiercely, turning to face them. "No one lays a hand on my children."

Before Adam could respond, Max stiffened, his nostrils flaring. "They’re here," he growled.

The air seemed to grow colder, the hair on the back of my neck standing on end. Heavy footsteps echoed through the mansion, followed by low, menacing growls.

"Who?" I demanded, my grip tightening on the rifle.

Max’s jaw clenched. "Cain and Lilith. Maverick’s children."

The name struck like lightning. Maverick—the wolf Lucian had killed to protect his claim as Alpha. His children were here for revenge. Well, their father shouldn’t have acted so stupid. What was he thinking challenging his Alpha? He got what was coming to him.

I gritted my teeth. "Like their father, they’re making the same mistakes. I bet they think I’m some weak human and that’s why they have the guts to come after me and my children."

"They’re about to learn otherwise," Adam said, stepping beside me.

The door to my bedroom burst open, and two figures stepped inside. Cain, tall and broad, with eyes like molten steel, sneered as he took in the room. Lilith, equally imposing with wild, auburn hair and a cruel smile, sauntered forward, her claws glinting in the dim light.

"What do we have here?" Cain drawled. "The little human playing house."

Lilith tilted her head, feigning curiosity. "Hand over the babies, and we might let you live."

My laugh was sharp and humorless. "You don’t scare me," I said, stepping between them, Katrina and the crib.

Cain’s eyes narrowed. "You should be scared. You’re just a human. Do you think you can protect them from us?"

"Try me," I said coldly, raising the rifle.

Lilith’s smirk widened. "You won’t shoot. You don’t have it in you."

A shot rang out, deafening in the confined space. Lilith’s smirk vanished as the bullet grazed her arm, leaving a trail of blood.

"I’m guessing your father didn’t tell you lot about me." I smirked, cocking the rifle.

Chaos erupted. Cain lunged at me, half shifted, his claws swiping through the air. I ducked, rolling to the side as I fired again, the bullet grazing his leg. Adam tackled him mid-lunge, the two crashing into the dresser before they both shifted fully to their massive wolf forms. Damn, my room never seemed to catch a break from being constantly recked.

Lilith snarled, charging toward the crib. Katrina met her head-on, shifting into her wolf form with a feral growl. They collided, a blur of claws and teeth.

"Max, help Katrina!" I shouted, spinning to face one of the backup wolves charging through the door.

I fired twice, the silver bullets hitting their mark. The wolf collapsed with a pained yelp, writhing on the floor.

Another wolf tackled me from the side, sending the rifle skidding across the floor. I struggled beneath its weight, my fingers scrambling for the knife at my thigh.

"Teresa!" Max’s voice roared, and a split second later, the wolf was ripped off me, Max’s massive form slamming it into the wall.

I scrambled to my feet, grabbing the knife and spinning just in time to dodge another attacker. I slashed out, the blade sinking into its side.

The fight blurred into a whirlwind of motion and sound. Katrina was a whirlwind of silver fur, her jaws snapping with precision. Max and Adam fought like demons, their strength unmatched as they tore through the attackers.

But it wasn’t enough. Cain and Lilith regrouped, their eyes burning with fury.

"You think you’ve won?" Cain snarled, his voice dripping with venom. "We’ll tear this place apart."

"Not before I tear you apart," I said, my voice steady despite the chaos around me.

They charged, and I met them head-on. My knife sliced through the air, grazing Cain’s shoulder. Lilith lunged, her claws narrowly missing my face. I ducked, grabbing the rifle from the floor and firing point-blank.

The bullet hit Cain square in the chest, sending him staggering back with a howl of pain.

"Enough!" Lilith screamed, her eyes blazing with fury. "You’ll regret that, human!"

"Funny," I shot back, pulling a knife from my belt and throwing it with precision. It buried itself in her thigh, and she screamed. "I feel fine."

One of her wolves tried to circle me, but Alex came out of nowhere and intercepted him, changing mid air into a hulking wolf before slamming into the intruder and sending them both crashing into a side table. Splinters of wood rained down, but Alex held his ground, his teeth snapping dangerously close to the wolf’s throat.

My room, the corridors and the entire house became a battleground. Furniture splintered, walls were clawed, and the air was thick with growls and gunfire. I moved with purpose, firing at any wolf that came too close. My training with Adrian and Juliette kicked in like second nature.

Lilith, despite her injuries, kept coming. She lunged at me again, and I met her with a knife, slashing at her arm. Blood sprayed, and she stumbled back, snarling.

"Had enough?" I taunted, my voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through me.

"You’ll pay for this!" she spat, but there was fear in her eyes now.

Max and Adam fought with brutal efficiency, their claws and teeth tearing into the remaining lackeys. Katrina, still in wolf form, protected the crib with ferocity, her growls a constant warning to anyone who dared come close.

When the last of the intruders lay defeated, I stood in the center of the wrecked room, my chest heaving. Lilith and Cain were still alive but barely conscious, their bodies battered and bleeding.

"Adam, Max," I said, my voice cold. "Tie them up. Lucian will want to deal with them personally."

"Yes, ma’am," Adam replied, his tone filled with respect.

As they secured the siblings, I turned to check on the babies. Katrina had shifted back, cradling them protectively. They were safe, unharmed. Relief flooded me again, but I didn’t let it show.

The sound of hurried footsteps made me spin, rifle raised, but it was Lucian who burst through the doorway, his blank eyes wide with worry.

"Teresa!" he called, his voice frantic.

"I’m here," I said, lowering the rifle.

He stumbled forward, his hands reaching for me. I caught them, guiding him to me. His touch was firm, desperate.

"You’re okay?" he asked, his voice trembling.

I nodded, even though he couldn’t see it. "I’m okay. The babies are okay."

His hands roamed over my arms, my shoulders, as if checking for injuries. "I heard the fighting... I thought—"

"Shh," I interrupted, placing a hand on his chest. "We’re fine. They underestimated me."

Lucian’s lips curled into a sly smirk, pride flickering in his eyes. "Of course, they did. Like father, like fools. You’re the perfect mate—any Alpha would kill to have someone like you."

I rolled my eyes, but my heart swelled. "You’re lucky I didn’t kill them. I left them as a gift for you."

Lucian’s grin widened. "You’re perfect."

I looked around the wrecked room and sighed. "Well, perfect or not, you owe me new furniture."

Lucian chuckled, pulling me into his arms. For a moment, the chaos faded, and all that mattered was the steady beat of his heart against mine.
