Chapter 115: Believe Me

LUCIAN’S P.O.V.

The weight of Teresa’s gaze felt heavier than usual. I could feel the questions racing through her mind, even though she didn’t speak them aloud. Her breathing was steady, but her pulse betrayed her—it hammered away like a war drum. She was trying to stay calm, but I could feel the storm brewing inside her. It mirrored the chaos in my own chest.

I cleared my throat, feeling Ares stirring in the back of my mind. "Be careful," he warned, his voice smooth yet insistent. "You’re going to confuse her even more if you don’t explain this right."

I ignored him. Of course, he had plenty to say. He always did.

"Before I explain everything about the mark, you need to understand something about Ares first," I said softly, my voice rougher than usual.

Her hands twitch in mine, her voice raised a bit defensively. "Ares. Right. The wolf you keep blaming for... everything." Her tone was clipped, laced with disbelief. "Fine. Explain. But this better make sense, Lucian. I’m not in the mood for any more cryptic nonsense."

I nodded. "Alright. Werewolves are... complicated," I began, pausing to collect my thoughts. "We’re not just men, and we’re not just wolves. We’re both.Teresa. We’re... two souls in one body. There’s me—Lucian Blackwood—and then there’s Ares Edgar, the wolf."

I could feel her strong gaze on me. "Two souls? Lucian, you realize how crazy that sounds, right?"

"Trust me, Teresa," I said with a faint, humorless chuckle, "it feels crazier to live it. Ares and I balance each other."

Her hand recoiled slightly from mine, and I could hear her steady breathing as she sighed. It was as if she was giving up, to see where my madness would end. "Fine. You said it before that he’s like another person living inside you. Go on."

I grimaced. "Yes. Sort of. We share everything—memories, emotions, instincts. But there are times when we... switch. Because of him, I can shift into a wolf. And because of me, he can take on a human form when needed. When I’m too tired or overwhelmed, he takes over."

Her heart quickly probably in disbelief, her voice rising. "Switch? Take over? Like... you let him borrow your body?"

Ares chuckled in my head. "Told you she wouldn’t get it."

"Do you mind?" I hissed under my breath, startling Teresa. She gasped at me, her voice laced with confusion.

"Who are you talking to?" she asked, her voice sharp.

"Ares," I muttered, pinching the bridge of my nose. "He’s making this worse."

"Oh, I’m making it worse?" Ares scoffed. "Who decided to dump all this on her at once? You, not me."

"Do you want to explain it to her yourself? Because this is all your fault to begin with." I snapped aloud.

I could feel Teresa’s gaze on me, probably darting between me and... well, the air. "Lucian," she said slowly, like she was trying to reason with a madman, "are you okay? Because you’re talking like a crazy person right now."

Ares sighed. "Fine, I’ll admit it. It’s my fault. But let’s not act like you’re innocent, Lucian. You’re stubborn, and I had to take matters into my own hands. Sure, it backfired, but I don’t regret it. It brought us Ollie and Mai. And I wouldn’t trade them for anything."

I exhaled sharply, frustrated and exhausted. "Teresa," I began, my voice quieter now, "sometimes when I’m not well, Ares steps in. He’s usually content to stay in the back of my mind, but when I need him... he comes forward."

I could hear her shifting and twisting like she didn’t know where to start. "Lucian," she finally said, "you’re telling me that the wolf-man thing that is living inside you, swap places with you sometimes?"

"Yes."

Her breath hitched. "And this... Ares... he’s aware of me like you are?"

I nodded. "Yes. Because you’re not just my mate, Teresa. You’re his mate too."

She took her hand away from mine as if I’d slapped her. "So... wait. Are you saying I’m mated to two people?"

"No." I shook my head. "We’re one. Ares and I are the same being. It’s just... complicated."

"Complicated?" She laughed, but it was sharp, bitter. "Lucian, this isn’t complicated. This is insane! Okay, fine. Let’s say I buy into this... madness. What does this have to do with the mark? And that night?"

I stiffened, my chest tightening. This was the moment of truth. "That night... was a full moon. Full moons make werewolves stronger, more powerful, and..." I hesitated, swallowing hard. "More drawn to their mates. I was arguing with Ares about you when you followed me into the woods that night. He wanted you, Teresa. I tried to stop him, but... we fought. And he overpowered me."

Her voice rose slightly. "Overpowered you?"

"I... don’t remember anything after that. I woke up later, and the damage was done." My voice faltered as I added, "That night, Teresa, it was mostly Ares while I sleep in the background."

I felt her entire body stiffened. "Excuse me?"

I reached for her hand again, but she yanked it away. "Teresa, please—"

"Let me get this straight," she interrupted, her voice trembling with anger. "You’re telling me the man I was with wasn’t even you? That it was some... some other part of you? That you’re somehow absolving yourself of responsibility by blaming this... wolf? Do you think I’m stupid?"

"It’s not an excuse," I said firmly. "It’s the truth. I truly don’t remember anything after seeing you in the woods."

Her laugh was sharp and bitter. "You expect me to believe that you blacked out, and your wolf took over? You’re not even making sense, Lucian."

"I know it sounds unbelievable, but—"

"Take me back to Adrian’s house," she cut me off, her voice trembling with fury, cold and final.

"Teresa, please, just let me—"

"Take. Me. Back," she snapped, cutting me off again.

Ares sighed in my head. "Let her go, Lucian. For now. I’ll handle this when the time is right."

Clenching my fists, I nodded reluctantly, I stood, offering her my arm. "Alright," I murmured. "Let’s go." But the ache in my chest as I led her out was almost too much to bear.
