Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 99: You are Lin Nanzhi, right?
Chapter 99: Chapter 99: You are Lin Nanzhi, right?
Although she spent most of her previous life among men, they were all wealthy young masters, and their relationships with her were purely transactional.
So, what did this young boy want from her?
Could it be because he was attracted to her appearance?
Considering the reflection she had seen in the mirror, the unease in Su Tao’s heart finally started to dissipate.
Her current body looked exactly like her previous one, which had enticed Zhao Si; so why couldn’t it also attract this young boy?
Moreover, ever since Zhao Si’s favorability towards her had reached 70%, the system had stopped issuing new tasks, and she had grown too lazy to continue boosting her favorability. As for this innocent little boy, Su Tao didn’t want to have much contact with him.
"What are you doing, young man?"
Su Tao tilted her head slightly, her eyes devoid of any emotion.
Although Wang Jingzhi hadn’t had much social interaction, he wasn’t stupid. Eyes are the windows to the soul and Su Tao’s eyes clearly conveyed that she held no interest in him.
His heart sank, but he stubbornly held out his hand: "I have these eggs for you."
Looking at the two eggs quietly resting in his hand, Su Tao felt a peculiar sensation in her heart but nonetheless shook her head and refused: "Keep the eggs for yourself, I don’t need them."
Once finished speaking, she turned and entered the courtyard, not giving Wang Jingzhi any chance to continue their conversation.
Watching the young girl’s figure disappear into the courtyard and then into the front room until the last trace of her skirt was hidden from sight, the boy seemed to deflate completely.
As expected, he couldn’t manage to hold a conversation with her for more than a few sentences.
Recalling the gentle ankle and smile of the young girl, Wang Jingzhi clutched his heart, which was beating incessantly.
As long as she recovered from her injury, it would be enough.
If he couldn’t see her today, he would try again tomorrow.
After the boy left with the eggs, Su Tao was left in the room, deeply troubled.
What’s wrong with the system?
There had been no information from it for several days now.
The system didn’t even respond when she called for it. Could it be broken?
Without any news from her fellow villagers or the system, Su Tao felt lost. Was this some kind of cosmic joke?
Su Tao flopped onto her bed and drifted into a daydream, eventually falling asleep.
Meanwhile, Nanzhi was lying on her bed, her face flushed.
Even though she was now fine, every time she thought about the scene she had made, she just wanted to burrow into her bedding.
However, every time she tried to grab her quilt, Shen Miaomiao would stop her on the pretext that she didn’t want Nanzhi to fall ill.
Only after Nanzhi had exhausted herself did she succumb to sleep, her stomach still aching. As Shen Miaomiao stopped laughing, she picked up a fan and started to fan Nanzhi.
By mid-afternoon, Shen Zhiyu snuck back from Aunt Liu’s house and discovered his mother lying in bed, as Shen Miaomiao snored beside her.
The little boy, seeing the two of them in this state, hastily took off his shoes and clambered onto the bed. Emulating how Nanzhi usually cared for him, he took a handkerchief and wiped her sweat gently.
He could see that Nanzhi’s furrowed brow relaxed slightly, and this brought the little boy satisfaction.
Before, it had been his mother who wiped his sweat; now, since his mother was unwell, he, as the man of the house, had to take care of her!
Nanzhi had been dreaming.
In her dream, she stood alone in a profound darkness, she didn’t move; just stood there as if in a daze.
Could this be another premonition, just like last time?
Suddenly, a distant call came to her ears.
The sound was faint, difficult to discern.
But it also struck her as incredibly familiar, as if belonging to someone from her memory.
After listening attentively for a while, she finally recognized that someone was calling out "Nanzhi".
The voice belonged to an old woman, sounding desperately weak, and every breath she took was fraught with concern that it might be her last.
Following that came a violent bout of coughing from the old woman, making it seem as if she was coughing up her insides.
"Nanzhi, Nanzhi, Nanzhi..."
These two voices echoed from near and far, creating an inexplicable sense of familiarity within Nanzhi.
Who could it be?
Crouching on the ground with her hands clasping her head, Nanzhi dug deep into her memory. Suddenly, multiple screens of light lit up her surroundings.
Some screens displayed an old woman, pale-faced and exuding a sense of decay.
Others showed an old man, stooped with age, shaking his head at someone.
Looking at the ephemeral figures on the screens, another form suddenly appeared.
The figure was bone-thin, walking with a child who stumbled after her.
It was then that Nanzhi realized: the old woman was the original body’s mother-in-law, Shen Wenchen’s mother and Zhiyu’s grandmother; the old man was the old patriarch, Shen Wenchen’s father, and Zhiyu’s grandfather.
And the woman with the frail appearance was the Nanzhi from two years ago.
The Nanzhi who had to carry the burden of the whole family.
On the screen, Nanzhi’s long hair was haphazardly tied at the back of her head, her face expressing nothing but numbness. She carried a one-year-old baby in one arm and stirred a thin porridge with her other hand.
Because Shen Wenchen’s mother fell seriously ill after hearing about her son’s uncertain fate, his father spent all their savings to treat her. Unexpectedly, just two months later, he injured his back while working in the fields, and the original owner had to sell off several acres of their land to afford their treatment.
With no money left, even the grains in their porridge became clearly visible.
The Nanzhi on the screen seemed lifeless, like a zombie.
Nanzhi turned to look at the other screens. Shen Wenchen’s mother was there, drinking her medicine, but the sadness in her eyes as she looked at the old Nanzhi was palpable.
The screens surrounded Nanzhi, some showing Zhiyu stumbling on his feet, others displayed Shen Wenchen’s mother holding her in her arms and crying, another had Shen Wenchen’s father waving at her after coughing up blood, and there was one depicting her and Zhiyu attending the funerals of the two old people.
"Nanzhi..."
The voice of Shen Wenchen’s mother rang out, distant yet clear.
"Nanzhi, stop worrying about us. Just find another good family to marry into."
"Mother, stop talking nonsense."
The original Nanzhi’s voice remained blank, as if she had seen through everything.
"My child!"
A wail of sorrow echoed, and then Shen Wenchen’s mother’s voice went silent.
Suddenly, all the screens disappeared, leaving Nanzhi alone again.
"Who are you?"
A robotic voice sounded, startling Nanzhi, who remained silent.
Who was this voice?
Was it the original Nanzhi?
"Who are you?"
As no answer was forthcoming, the voice grew more agitated.
"Can you hear me?"
"Who are you?" Nanzhi couldn’t help but return the question.
The voice did not answer immediately. Silence hung in the air and just as Nanzhi prepared to speak again, a sigh could be heard.
"Gougou, are you doing well now?"
Nanzhi was stunned, she asked tentatively, "Are you Lin Nanzhi?"
The voice suddenly filled with joy, "I am, we finally meet!"
