Chapter 92: Chapter 92 Divorce and Still Able to Provide_1
"That won’t do, our mother said if we don’t bring something, we shouldn’t even bother returning," Ercheng said as he took the contents from the basket on his back to the kitchen.
As soon as he entered and saw the dried meat hanging from the kitchen beams, he paused for a moment, almost thinking he’d walked into the wrong place if he didn’t recognize Patty.
How could this not look like the kitchen of a restaurant!
"Patty, what’s with all the stuff in your kitchen?"
"It was brought back by Zhiyu’s father," Nanzhi said with a smile.
Only then did Ercheng seem to cool down a bit, though still not completely pleased. How could a husband leave for three years without sending any news?
"So why has he left again? When will he be back? How can he lay his worries to rest, leaving you and Zhiyu alone at home during such times?"
The more he thought about it, the more he felt his brother-in-law wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. His gaze toward Shen Zhiyu was now laden with such concerns—he hoped his little nephew wouldn’t take after his father.
"He was injured before, saved by someone, but a blood clot in his head wouldn’t dissipate, causing him to forget everything about home. He only remembered and rushed back a few days ago," Nanzhi explained on behalf of Shen Wenchen: "He’s enlisted in the military now, so it’s good that he could come back even once."
After hearing their sister’s explanation, the Lin brothers could barely accept the fact that their brother-in-law was still alive but hadn’t returned for three years.
"Didn’t he ask how you’ve been living these past three years?"
"He did, he did. He said once he’s done with his work, he’ll take me and Zhiyu with him," Nanzhi said.
Yicheng and Ercheng just nodded without asking further.
Seeing her brothers playing with Zhiyu, Nanzhi also felt a strange sense of relief and then said she was going to the kitchen to cook.
If her brothers really started to inquire, she really didn’t know what to say. She couldn’t just blurt out, "Hey, I’m not your real sister, and I’m waiting to divorce him when he comes back."
Fearing they would treat her like a goblin if she spoke the truth.
Once his sister went into the kitchen, Yicheng quietly pulled his little nephew aside to inquire: "Zhiyu, tell your uncle, how is your daddy? Has he been bullying you and your mother?"
The little guy blinked his big eyes at his elder uncle and after some thought, said sweetly, "Daddy hasn’t bullied me or Mommy. Uncle and the others even bought me lots of toys."
Uncle and the others?
Yicheng and Ercheng exchanged glances. Ercheng also squatted down to ask: "Zhiyu, tell your uncle, what do those uncles look like? Do they make your mother serve them tea and water at home?"
Not understanding the implications of serving tea and water, the little guy responded with what he did understand: "The uncles aren’t as handsome as Daddy, but they’re really nice. Mommy cooks for them, and the uncles do the dishes while Daddy plays with me."
"Has your daddy brought any other women home?"
Upon hearing Yicheng’s question, Shen Zhiyu pouted his lips, looking quite upset as he said, "Daddy doesn’t have any other women! Daddy said he’s going to take Mommy and me with him!"
Seeing his little nephew on the verge of getting angry, Ercheng quickly lifted him up: "No, no, uncle is wrong, uncle is wrong. Do you like your daddy, Zhiyu?"
"I like Daddy!" After saying this, the little guy squirmed down and with a brief struggle, ran off toward the backyard with little stomping steps.
Uncle said bad things about Daddy!
Don’t like uncle anymore!
He ran straight to the backyard to feed the chickens; Mom had said if you feed them bugs, they’ll lay lots of eggs!
Echeng scratched his head, thinking that for the moment, his brother-in-law seemed to be pretty decent.
He was just afraid Patty might be sacrificing her own well-being to preserve the dignity of the man.
If he had his say, even if they divorced, his big family could still take care of her and the boy. Why should his sister suffer?
Today, while basking in the cool air on the mountain, Nanzhi had also picked some wild vegetables; eating potatoes and sweet potatoes every day could really make your stomach uncomfortable.
At the dinner table, the little guy had forgotten his earlier displeasure, and after serving some vegetables to Yicheng and Ercheng, he said, "Uncles, eat up!"
In his younger sister’s home, Lin Yicheng and Lin Ercheng had no pretenses, picking up their bowls and burying their heads in eating. Just as they were halfway through their meal, Lin Ercheng seemed to remember something.
He looked up at Nanzhi and said, "Fatty, today when we were on our way here, we bumped into a girl at the entrance of the village; you should be more careful."
Nanzhi paused with the pancake she was about to put in her mouth and frowned as she asked, "Ercheng, what do you mean by that?"
"Your brother means that girl is likely a bit deranged; be careful not to catch whatever she has."
Lin Yicheng saw that his sister misunderstood and explained further.
"?"
Nanzhi’s face was full of question marks.
A girl from the village? Which family’s daughter has an ailment?
How come she didn’t know about it?
"This morning, on our way to Lihua Village, we met her by the entrance. She doesn’t seem local and tried to con us out of our silver. We left quickly and didn’t let her stick to us. You and Zhiyu, being alone without support, should be careful not to be targeted."
Nanzhi nodded her head.
Su Tao, however, looked at the man with ill-intentions before her and felt sick to her stomach.
She could only pretend to be shy and said, "Brother Zhao, I’ve twisted my ankle, and it’s really painful. Could you help me get a doctor?"
Zhao Si’s parents died early from illness, leaving him the sole survivor. His family originally had some assets, but over the past few years, he squandered it all away, leaving him penniless and frivolous. As a result, he is still a bachelor at the age of twenty-seven or twenty-eight.
Previously, as everyone thought Shen Xiaolang was dead, he had eyes for Nanzhi.
After all, she was barely twenty, and although she had a child, she was still young and beautiful. To marry a young and pretty widow would not be a loss.
Yet before he could put his plan into action, Shen Xiaolang, believed dead for three years, returned!
Although he was infuriated, there was nothing he could do. Seeing the deep fist mark on the tree trunk at his front door, he had to restrain himself.
Fortunately, the heavens favored him, and today, he stumbled upon a beautiful girl!
Greed filled his eyes as he gazed at Su Tao’s pretty face.
Now, hearing her request for a doctor, Zhao Si simply touched her hand and said, "My good sister, don’t worry, I have medicated wine at home. Just wait and I’ll fetch it for you to apply."
As if afraid Su Tao would mention asking for a doctor again, he hurriedly went inside to find the medicated wine.
Su Tao, with disgust, wiped the hand he had just touched. Had it not been for the unbearable heat, why would she have collapsed at Zhao Si’s doorstep?
Who knows how much advantage he took of her!
Although she felt nauseated, she could only suppress her anger and asked, "System, how high is the affection level now?"
"Twenty."
Hearing the system’s mechanical voice respond, Su Tao’s eyebrows knitted slightly.
How could the affection level be only twenty when that man looked at her like that?
"How is that possible? Is there a glitch in your detection?"
"Host, upon examination, Zhao Si’s affection level for you is twenty point four six, and his possessiveness is eighty-three point two nine," the system replied.
Su Tao was speechless with anger.
Indeed, this man was no good!
