Chapter 83: Chapter 83 His Dad Can Fly! _1

The Li Family’s trouble was no small matter; in less than one hour, news had spread throughout the entire village.

The crops in the fields had been completely devoured due to the Locust Plague, and with the added horror of Li Tian being bitten to death by locusts, some people were truly panic-stricken.

Normally, when facing a locust plague, they would tighten their belts and get by, and if they were lucky, they could still harvest some grains early. At worst, even emptying their coffers, they could buy high-priced grains to save their lives.

But this year’s locusts seemed to have gone mad, attacking people on sight and unaffected even by torches.

In the Li family’s yard, the people of the second household had an expressionless look.

Ms. Liao stared coldly at the body laid out in the center. Seeing her two daughters scared, she only hugged them and patted their backs.

Li Liang for a moment did not know what to do. He looked at his wife leaving, then at his elder brother’s body, and in the end, he could only shake his head and sigh.

His elder brother was dead, his sister-in-law had lost her sanity, and his nephew had run off somewhere unknown, fearing he wouldn’t return by nightfall, he had no choice but to go out and search.

"Mother, has uncle died?" Li Zhaodi, ten years old and of sensible age, had understood roughly what was going on amidst the household’s chaos.

"Mm." Liao Hui simply nodded without elaborating and continued with the tasks at hand.

Li Laidi, who was six years old this year, listened to her elder sister and mother’s conversation and just looked at them blankly, asking, "Has auntie gone mad?"

Liao Hui paused in her actions, not saying it directly, only emphasizing that they should stay away from Ms. Wu.

The two young sisters looked at each other, then nodded in agreement.

At noon, when Ms. Liao went to cook, seeing her husband had not yet returned, she asked her daughters to go out and search for people.

As the girls left the kitchen, they saw Ms. Wu wearing only underwear, holding a wooden block and staring blankly.

Seeing the two girls emerge, Ms. Wu suddenly started to giggle.

Frightened, Laidi hid behind her sister immediately.

Observing Ms. Wu’s state, Zhaodi also swallowed nervously, protecting Laidi as they left their home.

"Sister, I’m scared."

Patting her sister’s hair, Zhaodi comforted her, "Don’t be scared, Laidi. We’ll stay far from auntie."

The little girl nodded, and the two sisters went to look for people everywhere.

Ms. Wu, watching the gate, suddenly stopped laughing, tapped the wooden block in her embrace, and muttered softly.

"Shi Tou, let’s go find your daddy."

After talking, she seemed to remember something and shook her head vigorously.

"Niuniu, Mommy will avenge you."

Li Liang was called home by his daughters, and upon seeing Ms. Wu still sitting on the ground in the yard, he felt some pity and called out, "Sister-in-law, come eat."

Since this morning she had been sitting in the yard dressed only in her underwear, disheveled and constantly holding that wooden block, crying and laughing under the sun for half the day. Now her clothes were soaked with both sweat and Li Tian’s blood; strands of her hair stuck to her face, making her look very disheveled. Yet, she seemed unfazed, her eyes intently staring at them.

Seeing her like this, Li Liang’s heart trembled, subconsciously protecting his daughters as they returned to the main room.

Old Man Li, leaning on his cane as he came out, saw Ms. Wu in that state and just spit disdainfully.

Watching his limping figure, Ms. Wu’s eyes brightened terrifyingly, she touched the wooden block in her embrace, then continued to lower her head and murmur softly.

Nanzhi, watching Shen Wenchen going in and out repeatedly, was somewhat puzzled, "What is he doing?"

Shen Zhiyu, less concerned, watching him pacing back and forth, got a bit displeased and stood up muttering, "Daddy! Your pacing is making me dizzy!"

Shen Wenchen paused in his steps and turned his head to look over.

The little guy, under his father’s gaze, quickly changed his words, "Mommy is getting dizzy!"

Shen Wenchen couldn’t help but find it a bit funny; he hadn’t expected his son to be so clever.

Seeing him sit down, Shen Zhiyu finally chuckled and pretended to pat Nanzhi’s back, saying, "Mommy is no longer dizzy, mommy is no longer dizzy."

The little toddler’s actions caused the group to burst into laughter, and seeing Nanzhi laughing joyfully, the corners of Shen Wenchen’s mouth slightly curled up.

Nannan being happy was what mattered.

In the afternoon, when Nanzhi was cooking in the kitchen, he followed her inside. Watching her busy herself, Shen Wenchen slowly spoke, "Nannan, I have to leave in seven days. Do you want to come with Zhiyu and me?"

Nanzhi paused for just a second while cutting potatoes before she continued as if nothing had happened.

"No."

"Okay."

Hearing Shen Wenchen’s simple agreement, Nanzhi’s curiosity was piqued. Why had he agreed so readily?

Just then, she turned around and saw him smiling at her.

Caught in the act, Nanzhi’s face flushed.

Seeing her shy, Shen Wenchen softly said, "If you don’t want to come with me, that’s fine. Tomorrow morning, I’ll take the group up the mountain to hunt some game. Use salt to preserve it and keep it for a slow meal. I had Shi’er buy a lot of salt last time, it’s all under the cabinet and should be enough for you and Zhiyu until after the New Year’s."

Seeing Nanzhi’s reddened ear tips, Shen Wenchen didn’t say more and turned to leave the kitchen.

Hearing the sound of the wooden door closing, Nanzhi put down the kitchen knife and patted her hot cheeks.

So embarrassing!

Thinking about the salt Shen Wenchen mentioned, Nanzhi decided to look under the cabinet and indeed turned up a large stash of items.

Twenty pounds of salt, plus a plethora of other bottles and jars, all examined by Nanzhi who was simply astounded.

From salt to vinegar to star anise and bay leaves, nothing was missing, there was even one pound of five-spice powder.

For a moment, Nanzhi couldn’t clearly describe her feelings, surprised that Shen Wenchen had remembered all these.

Astonished that he hadn’t insisted she go with him.

And carrying something else, she just couldn’t figure it out.

That night there was no locust plague in the village, but a scream was heard from the Li Family.

Shen Wenchen was quick, taking Ada and Er out of the courtyard flying.

Seeing the figures flying up, Nanzhi was shocked once again.

Though she had traveled through a book and Shen Wenchen had been reborn, she had never actually seen this so-called Light Skill.

As Shen Zhiyu watched his father soaring into the air with just a tap of his foot, his little face beamed with pride, unable to stop exclaiming.

Originally, Auntie Liu had heard the commotion at the Li Family’s and was hurrying over with her three sons when she heard Zhiyu’s excited exclamations from Nanzhi’s house and hurriedly knocked on their door.

"Girl, is everything okay at your home?"

Hearing Auntie Liu’s concerned voice, Nanzhi simply took Zhiyu out with her.

"It’s nothing, nothing, Zhiyu is just happy," she said with a laugh.

Auntie Liu looked at the joyfully foolish little fellow and wondered for a moment, what was the kiddo so happy about?

But Zhiyu was internally bursting with pride, his dad could fly!

None of the other kids’ dads in the village could fly!

Only his dad could fly!
