Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 319: Qing Fenghan Enrollment
Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Qing Fenghan Enrollment
"Young Master, Hu San only mentioned that he has a request, beyond that, I don’t know anything else."
The young servant responded somewhat awkwardly.
Qingyan glanced at him and then nodded, "All right, bring him in."
The servant was taken aback and rather surprised. The second young master never allowed anyone into his study. Could it be that he was making an exception today?
Seeing that he didn’t move, Qingyan slightly furrowed his brows and asked loudly, "Why aren’t you going yet?"
"Yes, yes, I’m going to bring him immediately." The servant bowed and hurriedly left, fearing he would upset his master if he stayed any longer.
Gazing at the portrait, Qingyan concealed his emotions, just covering the painting with a silk handkerchief.
As the servant led Hu San towards the courtyard, he felt somewhat uneasy. He thought he would just give it a try, never expecting that the second son of the Qing family would agree to meet him.
"Thank you for your efforts." Looking at the servant leading the way, Hu San pulled out two taels of silver from his sleeve and handed it to him.
The servant gave him a strange look, yet after some hesitation, accepted the silver. He then whispered, "The young master is in a good mood today."
Having said that, the servant said no more and merely continued leading the way.
Hu San sighed with relief in his heart and followed.
After returning to the restaurant, Nanzhi went straight up to the third floor and started gazing at the courtyard opposite, lost in thought. If she could buy this courtyard, she could build a staircase directly leading to the ladies’ floor. The small rooms behind the courtyard could also be renovated for a tea shop selling chilled beverages.
As the weather was getting hotter, she needed to diversify her business.
While the male guests were indeed dining in the main hall of Sanwei Residence, there was still a lack of a comfortable dining place for female guests.
If she could buy that small courtyard, she’d have another business opportunity.
She may not know how to create ice or make milk tea, but she would have no problem with regular fruit tea and iced drinks.
Aze didn’t go straight back to the restaurant but stopped halfway to buy a bowl of tea from a street stall.
The tea sellers were an old couple. Seeing Aze slightly downcast, the old man served him a bowl of tea soup with a smile.
"Boy, what’s wrong?"
The old man was in his sixties, with grey hair and eyebrows; he looked at Aze with a kind smile.
Aze was feeling quite sad, and the old man’s question made his eyes moisten slightly.
Despite his young age, he had experienced great ups and downs in life. Although he was still alive, he could no longer go back to his previous life.
How is he to live in the future?
"Old man, what are you doing!" The old woman spotted Aze’s reddening eyes and shot her husband a reproachful glance.
"What have I done?" The old man made a face before reluctantly stepping away.
"You made the boy cry!" The wrinkles at the corners of the old woman’s eyes drooped, making her look exceptionally gentle when she spoke.
Aze sat silently under the tea canopy, watching the squabbling old couple. A tremor ran through his heart and he couldn’t hold back any longer. Tears slowly slid down his cheeks, eventually falling into the steaming tea soup.
"Boy, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?" The old man was initially skeptical, but upon seeing Aze’s tears, he became flustered.
He just asked a question. How did that make Aze cry?
"Elder, I’m fine." Aze shook his head, a bitter smile on his face.
"Boy, you should share if something’s troubling you, there’s no need to keep it to yourself," the old man commented, seeing Aze’s stubbornness.
"I just... miss home." Aze wiped his tears with his hand.
The elder couple glanced at each other and remained silent, just offering him a dish of beans.
With red-rimmed eyes, Aze experienced a melancholy he couldn’t put into words.
His parents passed away early, and he worried about how his elder sister was doing now.
He had promised his mother to take good care of his sister, but now he found himself a slave.
The woman who bought him had promised to find his sister, but he had suffered humiliation in vain for three years.
Recalling the scenes from his childhood when he rode and hunted with his sister, Aze deeply regretted losing his sister.
At Qing Fenghan, Yuanbao was dripping with sweat.
Seeing his daughter seriously training with a wooden sword alongside Xiaoqi, Chi Sheng felt a headache coming on.
"Yuanbao."
The little girl’s forehead was covered in sweat. Initially chubby, her face had slimmed considerably over the past month. When she saw her father, her eyes immediately lit up and she softly called out, "Dad!"
"Come here and let dad take a look at you." Seeing the sweat on his tanned and lean daughter’s face, Chi Sheng felt a surge of tenderness. He had always taught Yuanbao to train with his comrades, but she was really too young, and Xiaoqi was intent on mastering the art quickly. Yuanbao’s participation was definitely a struggle.
"Dad, Yuanbao missed you." Yuanbao giggled and lunged into Chi Sheng’s arms. Seeing her sweaty face, he wiped it with his handkerchief.
"Why have you become so thin?"
The little girl’s eyes sparkled as she stared at her father, grinning, "Dad, now that Yuanbao is thin, am I prettier?"
"Our Yuanbao has always been pretty." Chi Sheng gave Xiaoqi, who was practicing his swordsmanship nearby, a glance before gently ruffling his daughter’s hair.
"Dad, how did the thing you went to handle go?" Yuanbao blinked her eyes; her father had been away for half a month.
Chi Sheng smiled and spun his daughter around in his arms, "Of course, everything was settled by your dad."
There were nearly a thousand people in their stronghold, Qing Fenghan. Even though they did no harm, with the changes happening in the court and the second prince being demoted to a commoner, some officials from elsewhere, in order to gain credit, had begun suppressing bandits.
Qing Fenghan’s location was desirable, attracting other mountain bandits. Considering the current state of affairs, he needed to find an alternative route for everyone as soon as possible.
How easy could it be for a bandit to come down the mountain and reform?
Producing the Thousand Gold Wine provided another chance at survival.
His trip down the mountain was to find a place where they could settle.
Although numerous places were expelling outsiders, he had indeed found a village during his trip.
The village was about two hundred miles away from Qing Fenghan. It was a small settlement formed by refugees who had fled famine.
Due to the sparse population, the authorities were unwilling to take charge unless the village could amass fifty households, otherwise the taxes would be exorbitant.
Now it seemed they had caught a break.
Even though it wasn’t possible to send everyone to the village, at least it provided a chance for a group of people to settle down.
Xiaoqi didn’t stop until he finished practicing a set of swordsmanship. Seeing Chi Sheng talking with Yuanbao, he hesitated a bit before walking over.
"Boss."
Xiaoqi’s expression was cold. As a nine-year-old boy, he exuded an aloofness that belied his age. Chi Sheng looked at him with a complex expression but seeing his daughter’s excited face, he eventually nodded.
