Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 314 Broken_1
Chapter 314: Chapter 314 Broken_1
Cui Tian was on a roll, winning five or six rounds in a single night, turning his original investment of three hundred wen into thirteen taels and one qian.
With stacks of gleaming silver spread out before him, Cui Tian was practically euphoric.
He always knew his time to make a fortune would come!
"What’s the matter, Cui Tian? Lost your nerve to place a bet?" The man saw him hesitate and taunted him.
"Or are you saving some to buy a coffin for your dear mother?"
His comment incited a burst of laughter among the onlookers.
Originally intending to quit while he was ahead, Cui Tian felt a surge of anger at the man’s taunt and recklessly pushed all his silver out as a bet.
A quarter of an hour later, Cui Tian was thrown out of the gambling house, a smirk of contempt on the man’s face as he spat at him.
"Get lost!"
Cui Tian quietly hissed, massaging his bruised face and slowly dusting himself off.
"Damn, they didn’t pull their punches."
At midnight, the sky was as dark as ink. Cui Tian swayed slightly on his way home, grumbling under his breath.
Arriving home, seeing the lantern at his house’s entrance unlit, Cui Tian felt a surge of anger.
Just about to kick the door in rage, he halted mid-kick, awkwardly retracting his leg.
He couldn’t cause trouble in the neighborhood again; if someone reported him, he would be in deep trouble.
Fortunately, the door to his courtyard was unlocked, and Cui Tian pushed it open with little effort.
Tipsy from the wine he had consumed at the Gambling House, Cui Tian stumbled over to the water tank and took a drink.
The cold water made him shiver, slowly sobering him up.
Madame Cui was advanced in years and light sleeper. Hearing the noises in the courtyard, she came out immediately, just in time to see Cui Tian sitting by the water tank.
"Son, what are you doing? How did you get back here?" Seeing Cui Tian home, Madame Cui was slightly bewildered. She hadn’t bailed him out, how could he be released?
Could it have been...a misunderstanding?
At the thought, Madame Cui’s eyes welled up with tears. She felt she might have wrongly blamed her son again.
"Are you hungry? Mother will make you some noodles."
Out of affection for her son, Madame Cui ignored the strong smell of alcohol on Cui Tian, and was about to head for the kitchen when she was stopped by a clearly irritated Cui Tian.
"Mother, I don’t want noodles. Go to sleep. I’m going to bed." Annoyed, Cui Tian struggled to his feet and headed for his room, leaving Madame Cui standing helplessly.
"He’s grown... my child has grown..."
Murmuring to herself, Madame Cui limped back to her room.
Sitting on the bed, Madame Cui’s eyes were still teary. She massaged her bruised leg, lost in thought.
Cui’s room was dark as she hadn’t lit any lamps. Just as Cui Tian was about to enter, he heard faint laughter from inside.
Instinctively, Cui Tian didn’t push the door open. Instead, he pressed his ear against the window.
Ms. Cui’s hair was disheveled, leaning on Wu Er.
"You like this, aren’t you afraid that Cui Tian will come back?" Wu Er’s eyes were deep as he asked in a low voice.
"Wasn’t he thrown in jail? What is there to fear?" Ms. Cui chuckled, showing no concern for Cui Tian’s predicament.
"You sure are bold." Wu Er was quite pleased with the woman in his arms.
The woman whispered something, playfully patting the man’s chest.
"Do you think that Cui Tian will find out that you planned everything?" After some thought, Ms. Cui voiced her concerns.
Cui Tian was no decent man, and if he found out, she feared she wouldn’t escape unscathed.
Feeling his lover’s distraction, Wu Er was slightly annoyed, lowered his voice and said: "Well, we must thank you for this, without your brilliant idea, how could I have thought of entrapping him? If you hadn’t told me that Cui Tian was a fool, I wouldn’t have known what to do."
Thinking of the eight taels of silver now in his pocket, Wu Er considered the woman beneath him his treasure.
Sanweiju and Hongfu Building didn’t have major conflicts of interest, and since Zuitingxuan had their incident, business at their Hongfu Building had been booming. If it weren’t for Ms. Cui’s plan, he wouldn’t have been able to profit from the manager’s discontentment with Sanweiju, who gave him ten taels of silver to stir up trouble.
Today, he only spent two taels of silver, Sanweiju’s brothel business took a hit, and even landed this little mistress’ husband in jail.
If this wasn’t killing two birds with one stone, then what was it?
Hearing what was said, Cui Tian’s face outside the room turned pale, gripping a chopper in his hand.
He only thought Wu Er had set him up, never expected his "good" wife was involved.
The sounds from inside intermittently reached Cui Tian, anger boiling in his heart to the point of wanting to set the house on fire then and there.
"Do you think your mother-in-law would bail Cui Tian out with silver again?"
Upon hearing his question, a smug smile appeared on Ms. Cui’s face: "When she came back today, I searched her thoroughly and took the silver on her. Even if she wanted to do it again, she wouldn’t have the chance."
"The case of a woman’s heart is indeed the most poisonous," Wu Er clicked his tongue twice, but didn’t let go of the woman in his arms.
"Keep your voice down, in case that old hag hears." Ms. Cui wrapped her arms around Wu Er’s neck, parting her ruby lips as she whispered.
"Are you still afraid of that?" Wu Er rubbed his forehead against hers, laughing.
Ms. Cui remained silent, only focused on hooking Wu Er tighter.
She was attractive and well-proportioned, had she not made the mistake of marrying Cui Tian, her life would have been so much better!
In the beginning of their marriage, Cui Tian was still somewhat restrained, but it took less than two months for his true colors to show.
He stole her dowry for drinking and gambling, and frequented brothels to keep mistresses.
Afterwards, he was away from home most of the time, leaving her alone to guard their house.
Every time he returned, he would snatch away the silver she arduously saved from selling pancakes. Sometimes, when he was drunk, he would even hit her.
Having been married to him for so many years, she never had a day of peace!
Every time that bastard got into trouble, her mother-in-law would bail him out!
Now, fortunately, she had found a man who treated her well.
With her eyes closed, Ms. Cui suddenly felt warmth on her face followed by Wu Er’s screams.
Panic-stricken, she opened her eyes; only to see Wu Er with his eyes wide open, lying beside her. His fresh blood staining her snow-white skin red. Behind Wu Er’s body, stood her husband, Cui Tian, who was supposed to be in jail.
Blood was splattered on Cui Tian’s face, the chopper in his hand dripping with blood. Upon noticing Ms. Cui looking his way, he grinned.
"Whore!"
