Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 311: Still Seeing Ghosts_1
Chapter 311: Chapter 311: Still Seeing Ghosts_1
Nanzhi and his companions arrived at Liuhua Street in the strange atmosphere.
During the day, Liuhua Street appeared quite deserted, but as evening approached, the brothels would hang their signs outside, red and green coarse cloth banners signalling they were open for business.
Upon stepping into Liuhua Street, a strong scent of cosmetics hit their nostrils. Lin Yicheng and Lin Ercheng instinctively guarded Lin Nanzhi in the middle, to avoid any unexpected incidents.
The setting sun dyed the sky a mysterious shade of orange-red. Nanzhi felt a sense of relief as he looked around the streets with his two elder brothers.
He was glad that he hadn’t impulsively come to Liuhua Street alone.
Liuhua Street was nine hundred meters long and housed more than sixty underground brothels.
Apart from places with signboards, there were also many places sandwiched in between that only opened a small door for conducting business.
Standing at the entrance of each brothel were one or two people trying to attract customers, including lightly dressed women and black-clothed bouncers.
Their duties were to protect the brothel’s business, and to inform if they saw a beautiful woman.
The moment Nanzhi stepped into Liuhua Street, countless eyes immediately fell on her.
The reason was simple: no decent woman would come here; all who entered Liuhua Street mostly were abducted or sold.
As soon as Nanzhi, who was quite attractive, entered Liuhua Street, quite a few bouncers entered their establishments to report.
"Keep close to us, understood?" Lin Ercheng said in a deep voice, his vigilant gaze sweeping over the greedy faces around them.
They had never been to Liuhua Street before, but they had heard about it.
"Dear customer! For this lady, we are willing to offer fifty taels of silver!"
A woman dressed extremely brightly leaned against a window on the second floor, staring at Nanzhi with a look of determination on her face.
This girl, she absolutely had to have!
If her establishment could obtain her, they wouldn’t have to worry about the Yihong Courtyard stealing their thunder!
Once the woman started bidding, the bosses of the other establishments started to raise their prices as well.
They considered how much silver it might take to buy Nanzhi.
Lin Yicheng had an extremely ugly expression on his face, wanting to retort angrily, but he knew this was not a place where they could make trouble.
"Let’s go," Lin Ercheng, also with a rather ugly expression, glanced around at the surrounding people and took Nanzhi by the hand, prepared to leave.
"Eldest Brother, Second Brother, we don’t have to leave, I have seen Ms. Li," Nanzhi said in a complex expression, feeling something shatter into pieces at the sight of the nearly naked woman.
Ms. Li’s hair had grown back, now cascading over her shoulders. Her face wasn’t heavily powdered, so the slight innocence in her appearance was still perceivable. Even with the change in her attire, Nanzhi recognized her at first glance.
She was only wearing a thin piece of silk around her chest. Her white breasts could be vaguely seen from beneath the silk piece, and her bare legs were clearly visible, only her private part was loosely covered.
She was neither in a brothel nor at one of the underground establishments, but at a small doorway of a dark house.
Watching her actively soliciting customers, and how those men freely touched her body, Nanzhi felt a surge of inexplicable emotion.
She didn’t like Ms. Li, and she didn’t really know her. Even in the past, she would have thought that Ms. Li got what she deserved, but seeing her reduced to this state now made Nanzhi feel inexplicably sad.
"That, that’s Ms. Li?" Lin Yicheng’s voice trembled. He only glanced at her once before quickly turning his head away.
He remembered, that Ms. Li was the woman who cuckolded Shen Zhong, but how did she end up like this.
Similarly, Lin Ercheng was also quite embarrassed, not knowing where to lay his eyes and simply looked to the side at Nanzhi.
"Let’s go and ask about Miaomiao," said Nanzhi, who felt somewhat awkward, yet proceeded nonetheless.
While Ms. Li was focused on soliciting customers, she was about to approach the two men who were coming over, but Nanzhi blocked her.
"Ms. Li..." Nanzhi began hesitantly, looking at the red mark on her cheek, "Do you know where Miaomiao is?"
Ms. Li’s voluptuous smile froze on her face, and when she saw Nanzhi, her pupils contracted sharply as she stumbled back a few steps.
"Who, who are you?"
"I am Lin Nanzhi. We escaped the famine together," Nanzhi explained.
When she was in Lihua Village, she had little contact with Ms. Li; they only got to know each other more during their escape from the famine.
This was the only way she could explain it.
"Didn’t... didn’t you already die?" Ms. Li’s voice trembled, and there was terror in her eyes.
Didn’t Lin Nanzhi die a long time ago?
How could she be standing here again?
Thinking back to the scene she witnessed, Ms. Li’s body shivered as the thin silk piece started to loosen, and it could hardly cover her anymore.
The eyes of the Lin brothers were practically glued to Nanzhi, afraid of seeing any part of Ms. Li.
They mustn’t look, mustn’t look. If they looked, they would be dirtied, they thought.
Lin Yicheng kept chanting to himself in his heart, while Lin Ercheng simply turned around and watched the other side.
"You are a ghost? Don’t come looking for me, don’t come looking for me. I know nothing!" Ms. Li lost her earlier seduction and backed away pale-faced, not caring even as her clothing fell to the floor.
"Ms. Li! Open your eyes and see clearly, I am Lin Nanzhi! I am asking you, where are Miaomiao and Aunt Guihua!"
Nanzhi’s expression was serious as she questioned.
"They, they are, they are in the back, right in the back," Ms. Li suddenly jittered, pointing to the door behind her.
"Lead us there."
Ms. Li looked at Nanzhi for a while before finally standing up and covering her exposed body. She led the way in front.
"Eldest Brother, Second Brother, let’s go." Knowing her two brothers were trying their best to avoid looking, Nanzhi tugged at their clothes.
"Okay."
"Okay."
Ms. Li did not walk very fast and only entered the small door after making a slight bow.
Nanzhi followed, then came Lin Yicheng and Lin Ercheng.
The room was dim, and it wasn’t really a room, more like a pitch-black corridor.
They walked a dozen or so meters in the dark before finally stepping into the light.
What appeared was a small courtyard with two rooms. Two lanterns were hung in the yard, one white and one red, creating a rather eerie atmosphere.
"We are here," Ms. Li finally regained her senses, pointing at the room with the white lantern hanging in front.
"Okay." Nanzhi nodded, heading towards that room. Lin Yicheng and Lin Ercheng followed closely, fearing they might lose her.
Ms. Li didn’t enter the room. She avoided Nanzhi as if she was plague, and stumbled out of the corridor as if being chased by a ghost.
