Chapter 275: 275

Even though she didn’t know why she ended up at her own house, Nanzhi didn’t ask too many questions.

She had always been a soft-hearted person and wanted to give the child a leg up.

Although she didn’t understand what happened, the result was at least satisfactory.

As Nanzhi entered the crowded Three Flavors Restaurant, she sighed in relief.

"Welcome, customers, please come in——" Liao Da came out to greet the customers. Just after ushering in three people, he turned his head and saw Nanzhi and Shen Zhiyu.

"Boss?"

Nanzhi nodded and smiled, feeling a kind of inexplicable excitement when she saw the crowded restaurant.

"Boss, you’re okay now? Come in, come in quickly." Liao Da was also stirred up. These past seven days, the business in the restaurant was surprisingly good. Uncle Ping had done the accounting for them. If the business continued to be this good for a month, they would earn six extra taels of bonus money!

This was much better than any other tavern!

"Is Miaomiao here?"

Nanzhi led Zhiyu into the restaurant and looked around for Shen Miaomiao, not finding her before inquiring.

"Boss Shen is there." Liao Da looked around but didn’t see Shen Miaomiao, then he remembered that she had just left the restaurant.

He slapped his forehead before indicating outside and said, " Look at my memory, Boss Shen just went out."

"You can carry on. I’ll go to the backyard and have a look." Nanzhi nodded, and without further ado, she took Zhiyu to the backyard.

It was just past noon, and the two teenagers, An Wazi and Lin Xiaoquan, were bustling about in the backyard.

When they saw Nanzhi come in, An Wazi’s eyes lit up and he quickly called out, "Boss! How are you feeling now?"

"I’m fine, you guys have been working hard these days."

"As long as you’re fine. Looking for Uncle Ping? He’s in the room." An Wazi grinned, pointing to the room.

Nanzhi looked at their increasingly skilled movements in roasting skewers, a sense of relief flooding her heart.

But little Zhiyu was more interested in the grill that An Wazi and Shen were using.

So, without following Nanzhi any further, he obediently stood aside and watched them roast skewers.

"Hey, little brother, what are you doing?" Lin Xiaoquan was busy flipping over the skewers when he noticed Little Zhiyu’s unblinking gaze fixed on the skewer in his hand.

Little Zhiyu looked at Lin Xiaoquan but didn’t speak, he only stood nearby and watched.

An Wazi, finding Zhiyu adorably, snorted with laughter and teased Lin Xiaoquan, "Brother Xiaoquan, do you think this little brother looks like the New Year picture doll you have taped to your bedhead?"

Lin Xiaoquan’s face flushed red instantly, quickly turning his gaze away.

When he left home to look for work, his mother gave him a New Year picture doll.

She said their family had many children and didn’t know how much they could help him. They did not ask him to send money home, only that he get married as soon as possible.

For some reason, he had actually pasted that picture of the doll to the head of his bed.

"Boss Lin?" Uncle Ping was going over the accounts and only looked up when he noticed someone entered the room.

"Uncle Ping." Nanzhi called him and sat down in front of him.

"How has the restaurant been these past few days?"

Uncle Ping didn’t say anything, but handed her the account book instead.

Looking at the accounts from the past few days, Nanzhi felt a certain sense of appreciation.

Miaomiao had managed the restaurant very well.

The daily sales of the restaurant were now between three and five taels, and there were already two banquet orders for April.

"Boss Shen has managed the restaurant very well." Uncle Ping commented truthfully.

Since coming to the restaurant, he could tell that neither of the two owners had any experience in business.

Even the affairs of the restaurant were all thought up together.

There was probably no third such restaurant owner in all of Xia Country.

But the result was beyond his expectations.

"Yes, I’ve noticed," Nanzhi commented, her expression complicated as she looked at the wages calculated in the account book.

She could guess that Miaomiao had no silver left.

But where did she get those extra three taels of silver from?

Nanzhi clenched her fists slightly, filled with regret.

She regretted not leaving more silver in the restaurant in the beginning.

"Sister Nanzhi!" A surprised voice rang out and before Nanzhi could respond, she was embraced.

"Miaomiao——" Nanzhi tried to speak, but paused when she felt the warm teardrop.

Uncle Ping noticed that something was wrong, but pretended not to see anything and stood up to leave the room.

Before leaving, he thoughtfully closed the door.

"Miaomiao, I’m okay now." Nanzhi’s expression softened as she gently patted Shen Miaomiao’s back.

"What about you? How are you now?" The girl sniveled, trying to stop crying.

"I’m fine." Nanzhi shook her head, holding her hand.

"As long as you’re okay, I was so worried." The girl giggled, her eyes still wet with tears, which made her look somewhat absurd.

"You’ve worked hard these past few days." Nanzhi gave Shen Miaomiao a confirming look.

"What’s there to work hard about, I was just buzzing around in the restaurant," the girl said lightly, not intending to bring up the matter of the wages.

"I was negligent. The wages were originally meant to be distributed on the fifteenth, but I was so busy that day I even forgot to leave some silver here."

The smile on the girl’s face stiffened slightly, but she shook her head, "Sister Nanzhi, it’s nothing."

"Miaomiao..."

"The restaurant was mainly your investment from the beginning. My silver wasn’t even enough for a speck of dust."

"We can’t say it like that. We had agreed to settle all matters in detail beforehand," Nanzhi shook her head.

Initially, she wanted to have a fifty-fifty split with Miaomiao. Even though her grandmother didn’t support it, she didn’t say anything against it.

But Aunt Guihua disagreed, demanding a ninety-ten split. After their negotiations, it was finally settled at a seventy-thirty split.

She had seventy percent, and was responsible for the restaurant’s funding.

Shen Miaomiao had thirty percent, and was mainly in charge of the restaurant’s day-to-day affairs.

This agreement was due to Nanzhi’s few reservations.

She always felt she was unlucky and had planned to let Shen Miaomiao manage the restaurant once it stabilized, so as not to involve others because of her.

After hearing Nanzhi’s words, Shen Miaomiao hesitated, but in the end, she didn’t refuse.

Twelve had left her a sum of silver and that hairpin when he left.

She didn’t touch the silver, because her relationship with Twelve hadn’t been settled yet. If Twelve chose someone else, she would return all the silver.

However, the hairpin was a gift from Twelve.

Almost like a token of commitment.

"Sister Nanzhi, the silver came from pawning the hairpin. I’m thinking of redeeming it once the restaurant has earned enough money." Tears welled up in the girl’s eyes as she thought of Twelve.

"Miaomiao..." Nanzhi guessed the trouble she went through to get the silver, but she didn’t expect her to pawn the hairpin, which made her heart ache.

"Sister Nanzhi, I don’t know, I don’t know how much longer I can wait."

Nanzhi didn’t try to console her, instead she hugged the girl, allowing her to vent her emotions.

In Xia Country, a girl could marry when she reached the age of fifteen. Those who were older but unmarried were often looked at with suspicion.

Miaomiao had pledged her love for Twelve, but considering their family backgrounds, she didn’t know if she could wait for her beloved.

Thinking of Shen Wenchen, Nanzhi’s eyes also dimmed some.

She didn’t know how bright Su Tao’s halo was, nor did she know whether Shen Wenchen would return in June to marry her.
