Chapter 262: Chapter 262 Smashing the Place_1
"Come, come, come," Nanzhi said with some resignation.
"Take it, take it. This is my congratulatory gift, don’t say I wasn’t generous enough." Xiaohe slapped his chest with a grand gesture and stuffed the thick red envelope into Nanzhi’s arms.
Liao Da looked at the young master that was Xiaohe, then back at his own boss, not asking anything extra before leading him into the restaurant.
Lin Shougui, who was chatting with Lin Fu and the others, saw the youth following Liao Da and brightened up, getting up to greet him, "Xiaohe?"
"Uncle Lin!" Xiaohe, now able to transform again, was indeed very happy, and he cheerfully walked over upon seeing the familiar face.
"We haven’t seen each other for over two years, and you’re still the same!" Lin’s father said with a hearty laugh.
"Indeed, it’s been quite a while," Xiaohe chuckled and sat down next to Shen Zhiyu.
The little guy’s eyes immediately sparkled upon seeing Xiaohe.
Xiaohe reached out to ruffle the little one’s head, feeling somewhat melancholic.
If it hadn’t been for this little kid buying him back, he would have probably ended up as clam soup in someone else’s bowl by now.
After waiting outside for a while longer and welcoming a few more guests, Nanzhi then called Shen Miaomiao to come inside.
The first day was naturally busy; they couldn’t just stand around waiting like fools.
"Miaomiao, go on in," Nanzhi said, waving her hand at the little girl.
"Sister Nanzhi, you go ahead; I’ll wait a bit longer," the little girl said softly, her eyes fixed intently in one direction.
Guessing that she was waiting for Wang Jingzhi, Nanzhi didn’t say much more and went back to the Main Hall to greet the guests.
"Nanzhi, I really must thank you," Aunt Guihua said, looking at Nanzhi with tears in her eyes.
Considering her family’s current situation, if it weren’t for the Lin girl, her own daughter would probably still be at home sewing handkerchiefs.
She and her husband couldn’t earn much silver now, and even their daughter was helping out at home.
But she was destined to marry eventually; she couldn’t stay at home to look after them forever.
Their boy, Lin Yicheng, was good, now an official in Kyoto; their family was never a match for him, and now they were even more of a burden.
"Auntie, what are you talking about? If it weren’t for you and Miaomiao, there wouldn’t be a me now," Nanzhi said earnestly, moving Aunt Guihua to wipe the tears from the corner of her eyes.
"You old woman, today is a very good day, what are you even saying!" Shen Sanhu said quietly, his face serious, yet similarly moved.
His own daughter now owned a shop; at least, even if they passed away, she wouldn’t have no one to rely on.
He only felt fortunate that when the mother and son secretly brought things for the Shen family, he hadn’t interfered.
The elder Shens felt a complex mix of emotions, but Lin Fu was nodding his head in appreciation as he observed the arrangement of Baiweizhai, "So you’re Nanzhi? Truly remarkable!"
"Thank you for your praise, Uncle Lin Fu," Nanzhi replied with a beaming smile.
"Back when I returned to Stone Village, you were still in your mother’s belly. It’s a pity we haven’t seen each other all these years. Take this as a gift from your uncle on our first meeting." As he spoke, Lin Fu reached for a jade pendant at his waist and tried to put it in Nanzhi’s embrace.
"Uncle Lin Fu, I appreciate the thought, but please keep the gift," Nanzhi quickly stepped back and said.
Lin Shougui also said from the side, "What are you doing? Sit down, sit down."
"Nanzhi, your restaurant is great; I’m sure your business will flourish!" Chen Qiulan said smilingly, congratulating Nanzhi.
"Thank you, sister-in-law, I’ll borrow your good words," Nanzhi replied.
As the sun climbed higher, many people saw that Baiweizhai had become Sunweiju, hesitating before looking inside. Some, who had already made plans to dine out with friends, just happened to walk into the restaurant.
Meanwhile, Shen Miaomiao stood at the entrance of the restaurant, greeting the guests while looking around.
The crowd bustled, but she couldn’t spot that particular figure among them, making Shen Miaomiao feel somewhat defeated.
She and Wang Jingzhi had grown up together as childhood sweethearts. Although they were just friends, she really didn’t want him to stay in the shadows of the past.
Over the past two years, she had grown up, understood more, and guessed what kind of persecution he had endured at the beginning.
Thinking back to the boy who was once silent yet always protected her, Shen Miaomiao felt a sourness at the tip of her nose.
"Miaomiao," Wang Jingzhi looked at the dejected young girl with some distraction, he hadn’t intended to come.
But thinking of Aunt Guihua’s past kindness towards him, and the care the Lin Family had given him, he still came.
The young man was still clad in blue clothing but lacked his original naivety and the eagerness that a youth should have.
Now he appeared thin, and the smile on his face was somewhat forced.
"Brother Jingzhi," the young girl was a bit surprised, holding back tears when she looked up.
"Mm, sorry, there were some issues at the Medical Hall, so I came a bit late," Wang Jingzhi’s smile was shallow, his pale complexion resembling fine Xuan paper.
"It’s fine, let’s go, I’ll take you inside."
"Mm, alright."
The girl’s waist was slim, lively.
Wang Jingzhi glanced at the sign above their heads and sighed inwardly.
That person was already gone, perhaps it was time for him to let go completely.
There were many people eating at the Three Flavors Residence, all asking what the special dish could be, and some were there specifically for the twenty-wen lamb skewers.
Some ordered just a few wen worth of grilled vegetables and sat waiting for their food to be served.
There were all sorts of customers, and Nanzhi greeted everyone with a smile.
A man noticed that the owners of the Three Flavors Residence were two women and immediately scoffed, ordering just a skewer of lotus root slices after arriving and sitting aside to wait, occasionally muttering to himself.
He was merely voicing the superstition that women doing business would bring bad luck, among other things.
Liao Da was getting annoyed but, mindful of the owners’ instruction not to quarrel with customers, waited for the kitchen to prepare the dish before reluctantly bringing it over.
The man was there to get a free meal but seeing that he had been served offal, he became angry.
He banged on the table and stood up.
The noise of the table banging was not small, drawing the sideways glances of others.
"Waiter, waiter!"
The man yelled hoarsely, and when he saw Nanzhi and Liao Da approaching, he couldn’t help but snort disdainfully, pointing to the dish on the table and asking.
"What is this?"
"Esteemed guest, this is our restaurant’s special dish, Spicy Stir-Fried Mutton Offal," Nanzhi said with a smile, though her eyes carried a hint of coldness.
"Isn’t that just mutton offal! I came to eat, you said you would offer free dishes, and I’ve waited so long only to be served mutton offal? You are deceiving customers!"
The man’s face was full of fleshy strata, and his triangular eyes showed some contempt.
The faces of those from the Lin Family had already darkened, especially the two brothers Lin Yicheng and Lin Ercheng, who were about to stand up with cold faces but were stopped by their mother.
"Mother?"
Lin Yicheng didn’t understand.
"Let Nanzhi handle it herself; she and Miaomiao aspire to be women proprietors and will inevitably encounter such situations," Lin’s mother said in a low voice, shaking her head.
Only then did the two brothers sit back down, though their eyes still watched Nanzhi’s side.
"Esteemed guest, we said we offer a speciality dish to customers who dine in, but we didn’t specify whether the dish would be mutton, pork, or even a plate of pickles," Nanzhi still spoke with a smile, "Our Three Flavors Residence’s special dish includes this Spicy Stir-Fried Mutton Offal, where is the deception you speak of?"
Liao Da stood by her side, ready in case the man became physically aggressive.
Shen Miaomiao heard the commotion and came over wanting to speak but was shielded behind Nanzhi.
This person had clearly come to cause trouble.
