Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 250: Little Thief
Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Little Thief
The Manager had someone clean up before he left, the few rooms in the backyard were relatively clean, just a bit dusty. The rooms were not small, they were all interconnected, and one room could accommodate five or six people.
There were four rooms in the backyard in total, and no one else was there, so Nanzhi simply let them choose two of the better-oriented rooms to live in first.
When it came to choosing, in the end, Uncle Ping, Xu Chou, Aze, and An Wazi, all considered as employees of the house, ended up living in the best room. Liao Da and the other three didn’t make a fuss and just chose the room next door to tidy up.
Because Xu Chou had a family matter, Nanzhi didn’t let him stay longer. She only let him lay the bedding before going home to bury his mother. He was to come back once everything at home was taken care of.
Wang Sheng had previously worked as a waiter at Baiweizhai, he was very familiar with the layout. After seeing them all tidy up their rooms, Nanzhi called Wang Sheng to the side for questioning.
"Is there something you’d like to know, ma’am?"
Miaomiao asked him, albeit a bit nervously, "You used to work at Baiweizhai, we have some questions we would like to know."
"Just say what you want to know."
"Do you know why Manager Lu stopped running Baiweizhai?"
Wang Sheng was taken aback and looked puzzledly at Nanzhi and Miaomiao, then shook his head.
"The manager never mentioned it." After saying this, Wang Sheng paused as if he was remembering something, and then continued, "However, since about half a year ago, Baiweizhai’s business has been declining, and two chefs have left."
"It seems they went to Zuitingxuan, I don’t know anything else. "
Nanzhi nodded her head and gestured for him to continue tidying up the room.
"Sister Nanzhi, should we be careful of the people from Zuitingxuan?"
"Yes, I suspect it might be related to the Hongfu Building, we did get this restaurant quite cheaply, but looking at it now, there shouldn’t be any problems."
After all, Wenchen’s visit to Kyoto most likely means everything has been taken care of, and even if there were any oversights, they probably wouldn’t take any extreme actions for a while.
An Wazi was young, but he was diligent and efficient. Seeing that Uncle Ping was sitting, lost in thought with his bedding piled up, he assumed that he didn’t know how to tidy up.
"Uncle Ping, let me set it up for you! Otherwise, later it will be cold when you sleep. "
Uncle Ping returned to his senses and saw An Wazi looking at him with bright eyes.
"No need, I can tidy it up myself." Uncle Ping ruffles the hair on An Wazi’s head, his face full of fatherly love.
He had been married and had children years earlier, but his wife died in childbirth due to postpartum hemorrhage, leaving them both dead.
If that child had survived, he would be a little younger than An Wazi.
"No problem, Uncle Ping, I’ll help you." As An Wazi speaks, he starts organizing the bedding. Aze just lies on the bedding and ignores them, covering his head with a quilt.
He had lived a much better life before, but now, he was truly free.
"Thank you." Uncle Ping gratefully smiles at An Wazi, and joins him in tidying up the quilt. The past is over, he is no longer the respectable manager he used to be but just an accountant at a restaurant.
The four people in the next room are also getting along fine. Lin Xiaoquan cheerfully made his bed and immediately started rolling on it.
He has two brothers at home, this is the first time he has his own good bedding!
Nanzhi and Miaomiao didn’t stay in the restaurant for long. They asked a few people who knew how to cook, then told them that there were vegetables and meat in the kitchen, so they could make their own meals.
Xu Chou only used a quarter of a pound of beef, so out of the original one pound and a half, Nanzhi kept three quarters and divided the rest in half between Miaomiao and herself.
There were more than a pound of pork left, along with the quarter pound of beef, it would definitely be enough for the seven of them to eat for one night.
Although there are people here who specifically raise a type of large meat cattle, there are regulations stating each family can raise a maximum of two. Moreover, you have to register it if you want to slaughter one of them, which has led to beef being much more expensive than pork for sale.
Miaomiao didn’t want to take the beef but Nanzhi insisted on giving it to her.
"Sister Nanzhi, you take the meat home. I don’t need it."
The young girl was a bit embarrassed and insistent on not taking the chunk of beef.
She felt that she didn’t really help much and didn’t deserve to take anything in return.
"It’s just a piece of meat, take it home and eat it. After the restaurant starts running, we won’t be lacking things like this." Nanzhi smiled and quickly left after stuffing the meat into Miaomiao’s hand.
Watching Nanzhi leave with the meat in her hand, Miaomiao choked back tears. Having taken the meat from Nanzhi today, she decided to go to the restaurant early tomorrow to help.
When Nanzhi went home, she was in a good mood, even humming a song. However, she was quickly brought back to reality by a dirty child running into her.
The child looked to be six or seven, with tousled hair, constantly apologizing to Nanzhi.
Seeing his pitiful state, Nanzhi didn’t comfort him. She just stared at him with a cold face and opened her hand.
"Return my money."
The little beggar quickly tried to play innocent, "Miss, what are you talking about? Where did I take your money?"
"Don’t play dumb with me, you just stole my purse. Don’t make me report you to the authorities. Give me back my money now."
Nanzhi squinted at the little beggar. She specially carried extra money as she was supposed to go to the pawn shop today.
In addition to the fifty-tael silver note, she had about ten taels of bits and pieces of silver on her.
She always had a habit of sewing an extra pocket inside her clothes. The weather wasn’t too hot yet, and she wore an extra thin jacket which was enough to hide any traces of money. Although the big pieces of silver were safe, her purse containing fragments of silver had been stolen by the child.
Inside the purse were a few fragmented silverures that Zhiyu had lent. Although it wasn’t much, it shouldn’t go into the hands of this little thief.
"How can a girl bully a little beggar?"
Some surrounding people had been watching and were enjoying the buzz, and someone suddenly spoke up.
Nanzhi looked towards the direction of the sound and saw a man with shifty eyes in the crowd.
"Exactly, miss, you seem to be dressed well, you are even holding beef! How can you bully a child!"
A plump woman next to him didn’t mind the big scene and was also pointing at Nanzhi.
It seemed as if all the problems were on Nanzhi’s side.
