Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 236
Chapter 236: 236
There were many people injured on the third of March.
The major medical halls in Yan City were crowded with patients, Jihe Hall was even more so.
"Jingzhi, you go over there and take pulses." Old Qian coughed and nodded to Wang Jingzhi to assist him.
"Okay." Wang Jingzhi obediently responded, putting aside his work to check pulses, only to see that less than fifteen minutes had passed when another figure hurriedly entered through the doorway.
"Doctor, doctor, my mistress is injured, can you, can you return to the mansion with me?" Shuangshuang, who had run all the way here, had rosy cheeks and swollen eyes from crying, looking quite pitiful.
The little girl was flustered, but Jihe Hall was full of patients and no one paid her any attention.
Finally, Wang Jingzhi, who could not bear to see her plight, spoke up: "Miss, there are many injured today, if your mistress’ injury isn’t serious, it’s better if she comes here for treatment."
Wang Jingzhi, by nature, has a scholarly demeanor and had lost his youthful arrogance due to his struggles, giving off an amiable appearance.
With someone engaging her in conversation, Shuangshuang instantly felt like she had grasped a straw in the water, and hurried over to Wang Jingzhi: "Doctor, doctor, please come with me, my mistress burned her hand and it’s a serious injury...."
No sooner had she spoken, a patient with a bad temper in the medical hall gave a derisive comment: "How precious is your mistress, even we who are badly injured, didn’t request the doctor to follow us. Is it that your mistress burning her hand means the medical hall needs to close, and everyone should go to your mansion to treat her?"
The one who made this remark was a little ruffian, who had incurred such an undeserved injury while out looking for excitement that day and had been harboring resentment.
Now seeing Shuangshuang as a mere maid, he felt he had found someone to vent out his anger on.
"You, you...how can you speak like that!" Shuangshuang stuttered as she argued with him, observing the ruffian’s manner and didn’t dare to be too harsh. She could only glare at him, then looked to Wang Jingzhi with a hopeful face.
"Whose maid are you?" A little medicinal apprentice, who was dispensing medicine on the side, noticed Shuangshuang’s anxiety and, fearing of offending a noble family, quietly asked.
Hearing the young medicine boy’s question, the other patients in line began to murmur quietly among themselves.
Still, Shuangshuang hurried to respond: "I am a maid in the Su Residence."
"The Su Residence?" The medicine boy was puzzled.
An observant individual recognized Shuangshuang and quickly asked, "Are you the maid of Miss Su Tao?"
"Yes, yes." Shuangshuang nodded repeatedly, desperation gleaming in her eyes.
"Since it’s Miss Su Tao who’s injured, let’s allow the doctor to go first."
When someone in the crowd spoke up, the others echoed their agreement. Even that little ruffian didn’t dare to say anything else.
Old Qian glanced at the surrounding patients and simply nodded, allowing Wang Jingzhi to accompany Shuangshuang.
With the permission from his master, although Wang Jingzhi hesitated a bit, he didn’t voice any objections. Carrying the medicine box on his back, he left the medical hall with Shuangshuang.
"Old Qian, is your young disciple capable?" Someone asked.
"Right, your disciple seems frail. Don’t let him ruin Miss Su Tao’s treatment."
Someone else chimed in.
"My apprentice is quite capable," Old Qian replied with a chuckle, stroking his beard. His hand was heavy, causing the man who had questioned him earlier to suck in a cold breath in pain.
"Alright, your injury is not serious, but your kidney’s a bit weak, go and get your medicine."
The man’s face reddened, and clutching his arm, went to get his medicine.
The others laughed heartily when they heard about his weak kidneys.
Thinking of his apprentice, Old Qian shook his head and continued treating the next patient.
Jingzhi had innate talent, and not a low one at that. Even though he had no idea why the boy was so aloof, he still was a promising seedling.
After running around, Shuangshuang had calmed down a bit. Seeing a mule cart for hire outside, she quickly flagged it down.
Once they were both seated in the mule cart, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sorry for the trouble, young doctor." Shuangshuang forced a smile out, but her eyes were filled with anxiety, fearing a delay in her return would cause her mistress to suffer more pain.
Wang Jingzhi felt a slight ache in his heart thinking of Su Tao’s injured hand. After contemplating for a while, he eventually remained silent and didn’t ask Shuangshuang for further details about the incident.
When they reached their destination, Shuangshuang tipped the driver a few copper plates. Without concern for the propriety between sexes, she swiftly grabbed Wang Jingzhi’s hand and hurriedly led him to Su Tao’s courtyard.
"Mistress, I have brought the doctor."
Upon hearing Shuangshuang’s voice, Su Tao in the room slightly opened her eyes and muttered a response.
"Come in."
The young girl’s voice carried a trace of fatigue, sending a faint tremor down one’s spine.
With Su Tao’s permission, Shuangshuang then led Wang Jingzhi into the room.
Su Tao was leaning against a large chair inside. Her light blue dress had been rolled up to reveal a large burn on her arm, it looked starkly shocking.
The sight of the burn was too intense for Wang Jingzhi to be able to look at for more than a few moments.
Even though what he had seen before was much more terrifying.
"Thank you, doctor." When Su Tao saw Wang Jingzhi, she just glanced at him briefly before speaking.
"Not at all. Please extend your hand, Miss Su." Wang Jingzhi lowered his head, opening the medicine box he carried on his back.
He had brought a lot of ointments for burn wounds, hoping not to leave any traces on her hand.
The last few days had seen warm weather and so Su Tao’s clothing today was somewhat light. The burned area on her forearm was red and painful to look at, causing a twitching pain in Wang Jingzhi’s heart.
"Ladies should always be more careful, injuries to the hand are not good."
The young man’s voice was slightly hoarse, not as pleasant sounding as one might think from his looks, creating a bit of a contrast.
Thinking that the boy in front of her seemed familiar, Su Tao did not deliberately try to remember. Upon hearing his words, she just smiled and said, "This was an accident, but thank you for your concern, young doctor."
"Hmm."
The sound he made was slight, but it was filled with seriousness.
That left Su Tao slightly taken aback for a moment.
"The injury is quite serious, but not a big issue. This is the ointment, just apply it three times per day. This is the prescription."
Having finished applying the ointment, Wang Jingzhi looked at Shuangshuang’s swollen eyes and added a sentence.
"You can send a servant to fetch the prescribed medicine with me."
As Shuangshuang gratefully sent off Wang Jingzhi, Su Tao was left staring at their departing figures somewhat dreamily.
The pain from the wound on her arm wasn’t much. She had earlier exchanged 10 points with the system for a pain-relieving ointment. Yet, the gentleness of the young man applying the medicine for her was incredibly surprising.
Once outside the Su Residence, Wang Jingzhi looked at Shuangshuang’s tear-stained face and said: "Wash your face, your mistress’ hand will be alright."
Shuangshuang’s cheeks turned slightly red, she simply answered quietly. Watching him walk away with the servant from the house, she stood for a moment before returning to the mansion.
