Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 182: Reunion
Chapter 182: Chapter 182: Reunion
Little Zhiyu threw himself into the woman’s arms, his small hands clinging tightly to her clothes, as if fearing she would abandon him again.
Lin Zihan and Lin Jian stood there, mouths gaping open, too shocked to shut them.
"Is that, is that our Auntie?"
Lin Zihan rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
"Similar, yet slightly different." Lin Jian scratched his head, observing the woman’s features carefully before hesitantly making this remark.
"Auntie looks thinner than her."
Lin Jian, who was only five years old two years ago, has a blurry memory of his aunt’s appearance. The only detail he clearly remembers is that she was very thin, with a sharp face.
"Mommy!"
The little one clung to her and was reluctant to let go, his voice filled with deep affection.
Mommy is back!
"Pup...no, Zhiyu?"
Nanzhi, looking at the little one in her arms, didn’t recognize him immediately. How had Zhiyu grown so much?
These two years, Shen Zhiyu has been well nourished. His face has filled out a bit, and he’s grown remarkably taller.
"Mommy...why, why did you only just come back?"
Even though the little one always appeared so composed, he was, after all, only five years old. Not having seen his mommy in two years, he couldn’t help but shed tears when he was once again held in her arms.
"Zhiyu, be good, don’t cry, Mommy is back." Holding the little one in her arms, Nanzhi quickly tried to comfort him.
"Nan...Nanzhi?"
Shen Wenchen watched the scene of mother and son recognizing each other, but didn’t dare to approach, fearing that this was just a dream.
In the past two years, he often dreamed of his wife. But every time he ran towards her eagerly, the dream would always shatter just as he was about to touch her.
Later, whenever he dreamed of her, he just stood quietly to the side, hoping to get a few more moments with her.
"Ah, you’re here too..." After comforting Shen Zhiyu for a while, Nanzhi finally noticed Shen Wenchen, who stood there staring at her like a fool.
"Zihan, come here."
Rather than responding to Nanzhi, Shen Wenchen beckoned to Lin Zihan standing on the side.
Although Lin Zihan was utterly confused, he obediently went over out of respect for his elder.
"Uncle Shen, what do you need me for?"
Shen Wenchen stretched out his hand to pinch his face, then asked, "Does it hurt?"
Even though Shen Wenchen, a martial artist, had restrained himself, he still left two small red marks on Lin Zihan’s face.
"Ouch!"
"Here, this is some pocket money from Uncle."
"Okay!"
Watching Lin Zihan joyfully run off with his silver, Shen Wenchen finally got the courage to walk towards Nanzhi.
"What are you doing?"
Nanzhi, cradling Shen Zhiyu, was becoming tired. Seeing Wenchen not coming over to help, and even harassing a child, she was a little annoyed.
Shen Wenchen quickly stepped forward, pulling his wife and child tightly into an embrace.
Little Zhiyu was upset at the moment and made a few whimpering noises as he continued to cling to Nanzhi, despite being squashed in between his parents.
Nanzhi felt uncomfortable being embraced by the father and son in this manner. As she was about to pull away, she felt something warm dripping onto her neck.
Initially, she thought Zhiyu was crying, but quickly realized the little one was nestled against her chest.
So it was Shen Wenchen...was he crying?
Nanzhi ceased her struggle, allowing him to hold her close.
After searching for a while, Mother Lin and her group found the place.
As soon as they turned the corner, they saw Shen Wenchen holding a young woman, which stirred up a flurry of anger within them.
Over the past two years, Shen Wenchen had been keeping Zhiyu at the Lin’s home, yet he himself was often absent for a month at a time.
Mother Lin thought of him merely occupied with official duties, after all, he had recently become a General.
Yet not long ago, there were rumors in the city that he was getting quite close with this Miss Su.
If indeed he’d found another love, as his mother-in-law, she wouldn’t stand in his way. After all, her own daughter was... no longer around.
But now, when his children were missing, he prioritized not their safety but was seen on the street embracing another woman. How could he do right by his daughter in this manner?
Mother Lin was overcome with rage, her foot ready to storm upon him.
"Grandma!"
Seeing their grandparents and father, brothers Lin Zihan and Lin Jian realized that their sneaky escape had led to trouble. With their heads hanging low, they made their way over, hoping to avoid extra punishment when they returned home.
Mother Lin, hearing the voices of her grandsons, looked down to find both children present. She asked, "Where’s Zhiyu? Where did your little brother go?"
"Our little brother is there with Uncle," Lin Jian pointed towards Shen Wenchen. He wanted to say that their aunt was back, but he was afraid it might be a misidentification and upset grandma, so he simply shut up.
"Can you, can you let me go? I can’t... breathe," said Nanzhi, now somewhat out of breath - Shen Wenchen was holding her too tight.
Hearing the subtle panting in Nanzhi’s voice, only then did Shen Wenchen carefully loosen his hands that were holding her and their son.
Even little Zhiyu was gasping for air, his face flushed red in the arms of his mother, provoking a glaring eye from Nanzhi towards Shen Wenchen.
"Zhiyu, sweetie, mommy can’t hold you any longer." Nanzhi looked at little Zhiyu in her arms and was momentarily startled.
Zhiyu had grown up.
"Okay."
Worried that he was tiring his mother out, little Zhiyu hastily got down from her and held tightly onto the corner of Nanzhi’s dress.
With the weight gone, Nanzhi finally raised her head to catch her breath.
Mother Lin’s face, initially filled with anger, turned to shock upon seeing the woman’s face.
Father Lin and Lin Yicheng were even more stunned, their jaws dropping.
The woman, she bore a striking resemblance to their dear daughter!
Lin Ercheng’s face held a complicated expression, but a sigh of relief escaped his heart.
Two years ago, he and his brother-in-law didn’t have time to bury their beloved kin, her body had just lain there for less than an hour. After little Zhiyu had cried himself to sleep, a heavy snow fell. Bathed in moonlight, they saw her body gradually turn into a mist and disperse with the wind.
His brother-in-law said that she might have gone home.
Only after a night of relentless questioning did he learn of a few things.
His younger sister, Lin Nanzhi, had another home in a different world.
He even thought that Shen Wenchen had lost his mind.
But now, standing before him was the woman who had come back, and Lin Ercheng could finally believe what Shen Wenchen had said before.
"Fat... Fat Yat? Elder brother, look closely, is that not your sister?" Mother Lin asked, her voice trembling, as she held onto Lin Yicheng’s hand.
"Mother, let’s go and take a closer look." Although Lin Yicheng saw a woman who bore a resemblance to his sister, he kept in mind that all sorts of strange things happened in Yan City.
There had been instances where the wives of wealthy businessmen died, and they’d find someone who resembled them to keep by their side as substitutes.
Upon looking up, Nanzhi caught sight of her family not far away, and everything around her started to blur as her eyes welled up with tears.
She had watched herself starve to death on the bed, filled with fear beyond words.
