Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 174 A Big Dream - 1
Chapter 174: Chapter 174 A Big Dream - 1
Shen Wenchen rode on horseback with a sword in hand, and perhaps due to the murderous aura he exuded, he truly managed to intimidate many who thought about rushing over to plunder the carts.
Even so, there were still some who were not discouraged and entertained the foolish idea of climbing onto the rear of the mule cart.
Seeing someone attempting to climb in from the back, Lin Yicheng hurriedly shouted, to alert Nanzhi to pay attention to the rear.
Nanzhi, who was already extremely tense, understood her older brother’s cries immediately and, upon seeing that dark hand reaching into the cart, brought down her axe with a chop.
The axe blade, sharpened by Nanzhi to an exceptional edge, cleaved through the back of that man’s hand, the skin parting to an onslaught of blood, its stench so overpowering it nearly made Nanzhi retch.
Pained, the man finally screamed and released his grip.
Hearing the chaos outside, Nanzhi protected Zhiyu behind her, gripping the axe handle tightly in both hands, ready for battle.
Having been previously instructed on what to do in such situations, Little Zhiyu, despite trembling with fear, tried hard to cover his mouth and shrink into a corner, making no noise at all.
Mother had said that when they encountered bad people, they had to hide, to prevent them from knowing there was a child inside the cart!
Shouts of "Mountain bandits!" continued incessantly, prompting the refugees to run forwards with all their might, some even scrambling right in front of the mules without any concern of being trampled.
In less than half an incense stick’s burning time, the distance between the three mule carts had gradually increased, while the Shen Family’s donkey cart was left far behind.
As Shen Wenchen led the way, he constantly kept an eye on the situation behind him, fearing that he and the mule cart would be scattered by the crowd.
Nanzhi was on full alert, transitioning from initial panic to resolutely bringing down her axe whenever a hand appeared, so much so that the cart curtains were now stained with large patches of blood, and the oppressive scent suffused the entire cart.
Perhaps due to her heightened concentration, Nanzhi felt her temples throbbing and her head beginning to ache.
After an indeterminate amount of time, the shouts outside grew weaker, and guessing they must be further away, Nanzhi felt her entire head growing heavy and dizzy.
Her eyelids felt as heavy as lead.
Sensing Little Zhiyu’s body behind her, Nanzhi shook her head slightly and forced herself to stay awake, not allowing her eyes to close.
"Fatty!"
"Nannan!"
"Mother!"
Hearing the urgent calls of three people, Nanzhi felt her body sway and she collapsed inside the cart, losing consciousness.
Seeing the wound on her abdomen and the vast expanses of blood on her body, Shen Wenchen shook with hands trembling, not daring to check her breathing.
Lin Ercheng, seeing his sister covered in blood, was also completely stunned.
How could this happen?
The cart curtains were now in tatters, having long been chopped into pieces, and the rear of the cart was covered in scratches. Even the axe handle in Nanzhi’s grip was smeared with mottled bloodstains.
This undeniably reminded them that the peril they had just escaped was far more dangerous than they had anticipated, and Nanzhi’s condition was all due to their own carelessness, having forgotten the most perilous place.
"Mother, Mother, Mother isn’t sleeping," Little Zhiyu had been frightened all night, and though he was scared seeing his mother covered in blood, he still gently pushed her, trying to wake Nanzhi.
"Mother should cover up, can’t catch a cold." Seeing no response, the little one struggled to roll up the blanket to cover her.
Now Shen Wenchen’s eyes were blood-red, yet he dared not believe it as he stretched out his hand towards Nanzhi’s nose.
Seeing his action, Lin Ercheng’s eyes were full of hope, yet after a long while, there was only silence.
"It can’t be, it can’t be," Lin Ercheng shook his head fiercely, unwilling to accept the reality.
"Fatty, Nanzhi, Nanzhi is a person blessed with good fortune, she can’t just die like this."
Without a word, Shen Wenchen’s eyes simmered with a growing intensity of killing intent.
...
"Fatty, Fatty, time to wake up."
"Fatty always sleeping in, just like a little pig."
"Being like a little pig is good, all white and plump, how pretty!"
Hearing someone chattering non-stop by her ear, the little girl on the bed opened her eyes in a daze.
As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw two teenage boys who, seeing her awake, also broke into grins.
"Chubby girl, hurry up and get up. Mom is taking us up the mountain to pick fruit today. Did you forget?"
"Exactly, if you don’t get up now, Mom will leave soon."
The two teenagers chattered on while the little girl on the bed scratched her head.
"Who are you guys?"
Startled by her question, the teenagers paused before reaching out to touch her forehead.
"You’re not sick, are you? Did you sleep so much that you don’t even recognize your older and second brothers?"
"Older and second brothers?"
The little girl asked back, puzzled.
"So who am I?"
"You’re Chubby girl! What’s wrong with you? Do we need to tell Mom to have a look at you?"
The shorter boy scratched his head, looking worried.
"I’m Chubby girl..."
The little girl muttered, then smiled with a wide grin, saying, "Oh right, I’m Chubby girl. Older brother and second brother, I had a dream."
"What did you dream about? Hurry, get up, we can talk about it on the way."
"Okay!"
The little girl swiftly climbed out of bed, dressed in her little jacket, and followed her brothers out of the house.
In the courtyard crouched a thirty-year-old young man who, seeing the three kids come out, smiled and touched the little girl’s face.
"Chubby girl, why are you oversleeping again today?"
"Dad, I had a dream, there was so much blood..."
Chubby girl threw herself into the man’s arms, cooing.
"Did Chubby girl get scared? Let Daddy rub your ears for you."
He gently rubbed the little girl’s ears while glaring at his two sons on the side.
"Scaring your sister with chicken blood yesterday, you two rascals!"
He pretended to kick at them, causing the two boys to dash out of the yard.
"Chubby girl, we’re heading off first! You come later with Mom—"
"Okay!"
The little girl, grinning widely, wriggled out from the young man’s embrace.
"Chubby girl, let’s go, Mom’s packed you a steamed bun to eat on the way."
A woman with a basket on her back came out of the house and beckoned to the little girl with a smile.
"Okay! Bye, Dad!"
The little girl took her mother’s hand while waving back at the young man.
"You and Mom take care. I’ll make a wooden horse for you today; we’ll play with it when you come back."
"Got it~"
Watching the receding figures of mother and son, the young man chuckled to himself before slapping the dust off his rear and taking the empty bowl back into the kitchen to clean up.
"What did Chubby girl dream about last night?"
The woman asked with a smile.
"I dreamed of so many people, and there were vehicles, and a little baby."
The little girl scratched her head, thought for a moment, and continued: "There was also so much blood..."
