Chapter 128: Chapter 128 Reunion

Adhering to the principle of never wasting labor,

When Chi Sheng arrived, Father Lin and Shen San, along with Lin Yicheng, Lin Ercheng, and Shen Zhong, five people had already plowed three acres of land.

Watching the few people in the field sweating profusely, Chi Sheng glanced at the man grinning cheerfully nearby.

"Lao San, that’s about enough, hurry up and lead everyone to wash up and go," he said.

Having confirmed their earnest efforts in tilling the soil, Third Master Shen cleared his throat in a low voice after Chi Sheng left.

"Alright, alright, you five follow me," he said.

Father Lin paused, gazing at the black soil under his feet with some reluctance.

Such fertile land was very rare indeed...

The group followed Third Master Shen toward the back mountain, becoming more anxious as they walked.

"Dad, where are they taking us?" Shen Zhong frowned slightly, looking at his father with some concern.

Could it be they were being led to their demise?

"You coward," Shen San chided upon seeing the two Lin brothers and then his own son, cursing under his breath.

How could they both be his sons, yet the ones from the other family are so steady, while his own was such a wimp?

Father Lin heard this and could only offer a word of comfort, but his spine straightened even more.

His sons were certainly better than other young men.

Lin Yicheng and Lin Ercheng mentally complained about their father’s demeanor, but just let the old man have his hobbies.

Observing the "bandit" leading the way, Lin Ercheng pondered.

If they were being taken to be silenced, he didn’t think that was the case, as he had seen the admiring gaze of that "bandit" while they were plowing just now.

So, where were they being taken now?

As he was contemplating this, Third Master Shen, who was leading, stopped in his tracks.

"Alright, clean yourselves up quickly, and I’ll take you to your families soon," he instructed.

With those words, Third Master Shen grimaced and stepped aside,

revealing a pool ahead.

Seeing the pool, Lin Yicheng’s eyes lit up,

and avoiding the sun, he hurriedly pulled his younger brother with him and ran forward.

It was then that everyone else realized, and they rushed to jump into the pond to wash up.

Third Master Shen looked at the muscular bodies of the Lin brothers and curled his lip even more.

These men were all skilled hands at farming; why did the Big Boss decide to let them go?

If they could be kept in the village, they would be of much use when things got busy next year.

Over at Nanzhi’s side, she sighed heavily while watching the two children sulk.

Shen Miaomiao rarely saw Zhiyu throw a temper, and now she was engrossed in watching with Aunt Guihua and the others.

Yuanbao, who had just insisted on sticking to Nanzhi’s side, was now sitting on the ground, humming non-stop with his back to them.

Zhiyu was also standing beside Mother Lin, his little face scrunched up in frustration, tears hanging at the edge of his eyes.

"Zhiyu, come to Ah Niang here," Nanzhi beckoned softly, and with some hesitation, Zhiyu shuffled towards her.

Yuanbao noticed his mother consoling his brother first and was momentarily stunned, halting his whimpering.

Before Nanzhi could react, Yuanbao had already climbed up from the ground on his own and ran towards Nanzhi.

Unlike before, when he fought with Zhiyu for Nanzhi’s attention, the little girl now just held Nanzhi’s hand, looking up at her.

With eyes reddened and feeling wronged, she asked in a sticky voice, "Ah Niang, don’t you only want brother? You want Yuanbao too, right?"

Yuanbao’s voice was soft and small, looking up at Nanzhi, making her heart ache.

On the other side, Shen Zhiyu felt a mixed sense of loss and fear as he saw his mother focus on his sister.

"Does Mother not like her new sister anymore and doesn’t want me?"

Nanzhi hugged the two children to herself and then said softly, "Zhiyu is good, Zhiyu is Mother’s dearest treasure. Mother would never not want Zhiyu."

Yuanbao, held by Nanzhi, heard her say this and began to whimper quietly.

"Yuanbao, Auntie isn’t your mother, but Auntie loves Yuanbao very much."

The two children soon began weeping together, and Nanzhi felt her shoulders getting soaked with their tears.

Maomao and Doudou finally woke up, rubbing their eyes, unable to make heads or tails of the scene before them, with everyone crying.

Chen Qiulan and Sun Cui saw their sons awake, and stood up from their stools to approach.

"Maomao, Doudou, are you alright?"

Their voices rang out at the same time, and the two children on the bed shook their heads.

"We’re fine."

After consoling the children, Nanzhi felt her head heavy and woozy, and even Shen Miaomiao and the others were yawning incessantly, their eyelids drooping with sleepiness.

When Chi Sheng arrived with a few men, pushing the door open, he saw a roomful of bodies strewn about.

His precious daughter was snuggled up in that lady’s arms, sleeping soundly.

Seeing the door open, the three little boys halted their steps to run forward.

"Father!"

"Father!"

"Grandpa!"

The three children, seeing Chi Sheng, felt like they didn’t recognize him, but upon seeing the people following him, they called out and ran over.

Shen Zhong stood enviously behind; he kicked his son without warning.

Unprepared, Shen Zhong stumbled and by the time he had reacted, he was already seated on the ground.

He looked toward his father’s retreating back, confused.

Why would Father kick me?

Although puzzled, Shen Zhong simply dusted off his bottom and stood up, walking into the house.

Nanzhi and Shen Miaomiao were now sleeping even more soundly; the Lin Family matriarch and Aunt Guihua, being older, woke up at the noise.

Seeing new faces in the room, all they did was pat down their clothes as they arose from the ground.

"Mother."

Lin Yicheng, holding his son, saw his mother awake, then called out to her.

The matriarch simply nodded, not uttering a word.

"Are you alright?"

It was then that the matriarch spoke, "Nothing much, just terribly tired."

Shen Zhong moved to help Aunt Guihua to her feet, then asked, "Mother, what’s with Xinghua and Miaomiao?"

"It’s nothing; they are just tired and resting for a bit."

Chi Sheng’s tall silhouette stood to one side, his heart aching as he watched Yuanbao sleeping so contentedly in that woman’s embrace.

Yuanbao had been abandoned by her mother at three months old, and though she hadn’t asked about her mother in these two years, she would always turn her face away whenever she saw other children being held by their mothers.

Ever since that Daoist visited their village, Yuanbao had been overjoyed, constantly mumbling about her mother coming back...

Now looking at the woman who was rather plain in appearance but whom Yuanbao liked, it was unfortunate she was already married to another man...

Thinking this, Chi Sheng couldn’t help but shake his head, regretting that he had not told Yuanbao the truth.

Lin Yicheng, holding his son, turned to his mother: "Mother, why didn’t you sleep in a bed instead of lying on the ground?"

The matriarch adjusted her clothes and replied, "There are so many of us; where would we all fit? Besides, it’s stiflingly hot on the bed and cooler on the floor."

Lin Yicheng then nodded.

The matriarch, however, scoffed to herself. They were all scruffy and unkempt—should they soil someone else’s bed, who would pay for it?

The silver and pearls Fatty Girl had given her were not meant for that!
