Becoming the Villain's Discarded Wife -
Chapter 106 Chestnut Dimple
Chapter 106: Chapter 106 Chestnut Dimple
After breakfast, the whole family started to tidy the house.
The only livable rooms available at the moment were the two rooms in the east and west, both small side rooms in the front yard, one of which was used for storage, and the other functioned as a woodshed.
They planned to empty out the storage and move the two beds into the side rooms, allowing Lin’s parents to live in the left room, while Lin Yicheng and Lin Ercheng’s families each would take a room to live in.
It took several people about an hour and a half to complete this task, just to move the items out of the side rooms.
Looking at the pile of firewood and miscellaneous items in the yard, Lin Yicheng scratched his head: "In the afternoon, Ercheng and I will build a shed and move all these things over there."
"Okay, let’s clean up the rooms first," Lin’s mother nodded at the tidied items.
Chen Qiulan and Sun Cui each started to tidy up a room, both with smiles on their faces.
They had initially thought that they would be cramming and sleeping together, but now they were pleasantly surprised to find that each family had their separate rooms.
"Nanzhi, why do I not see many people in your village?" Lin’s father looked at the bright daylight and couldn’t help but feel puzzled.
Although they set off early, taking a lot of stuff and moving, it was definitely slow. When they arrived at Lihua Village, it was past two hours, but until they reached Nanzhi’s doorstep, they didn’t encounter anyone.
"Uncle Li Zheng took the people up to the East Mountain early this morning. The other people are probably not going out because it’s hot and there’s no grain in the fields," Nanzhi explained as she helped her two brothers tidy up.
Hearing her words, Lin’s father looked at the scorching sun in the sky and appeared to be in deep thought.
After wiping the sweat off her forehead, Nanzhi went back to the kitchen to bring out a few bowls of water, before starting to prepare lunch.
Seeing their daughter preparing the meal, Lin’s mother quickly asked Lin Escheng to take two bags of grain and follow her.
There is no way they should eat at their daughter’s expense with so many people.
"Ercheng, what are you doing in the kitchen?"
As soon as Nanzhi rolled up her sleeves ready to knead the dough, she saw her brother enter, and she couldn’t understand his intention right away.
Could it be that Ercheng is the one doing the cooking at home?
"Mother asked me to bring the grain over," Lin Ercheng smiled as he carried two bags of grain into the kitchen, looking around at the clean kitchen and admiring his sister’s diligence.
Seeing the two bulging bags of grain, Nanzhi didn’t hesitate and pointed at the corner of the wall where she stored her grain, and said, "Just put it there."
After all, there are only limited storage space at home.
"Okay," after placing the grain properly, Lin Ercheng gave his hands a quick shake, and nudged up next to Nanzhi.
Watching her knead the dough, Lin Ercheng chuckled, "Are we having multigrain steamed buns today?"
Nanzhi nodded, "I thought dad and mom haven’t tasted this before, so I’ll make it for them to try."
"Alright then, I will help you with the dough while you can take a break," Lin Ercheng was just about to help with the dough when he was stopped by Nanzhi.
"Nevermind, you better go and help your wife tidy up the room. The two beds also need some mending."
Lin Ercheng paused, thought about it, and agreed with Nanzhi before leaving the kitchen.
"Cuicui, you go help Nanzhi with cooking, I will take care of the tidying up," Lin Ercheng suggested to his wife Sun Cui.
"Okay, but be careful, this bed is a bit unstable." Sun Cui didn’t object. The bedframe was loose and could use some fixing, and having her husband do that was just fine.
Furthermore, it wasn’t right to let their sister-in-law prepare the meal alone for their big family.
"I’ll fix it in a moment, you hurry up and help Nanzhi with cooking."
After watching his wife leave for the kitchen, Lin Ercheng finally picked up a hammer and entered the room. He thought to himself that regardless of the bed’s shaky status, if it did not stand upright properly, it would end up as firewood.
"Sister-in-law."
Upon seeing Sun Cui enter, Nanzhi raised her head to greet her.
"Fat Girl, is there anything you need my help with?" Sun Cui saw Nanzhi working up a sweat and used a handkerchief to wipe it off for her.
"No worries, it’s just really hot in the kitchen, you should go rest for a bit."
Sun Cui felt warmed by her consideration, but she still rolled up her sleeves and washed her hands. "Let me knead the dough. I’ll call you when it’s ready."
Nanzhi saw Sun Cui kneading the dough efficiently and didn’t refuse. Kneading for a while had made her a bit tired.
You can’t just have steamed buns for lunch, she thought. Then Nanzhi took out four eggs and planned to make egg soup and stir-fried potato shreds later.
The two were busy when Chen Qiulan also walked into the kitchen.
Mother Lin saw her husband gazing at the sky in a daze, and she couldn’t help but find it amusing. She asked him as she approached, "Old man, have you seen something interesting? You’re not even blinking!"
"What are you talking about?" Father Lin glared at her, and then pointed at the distance with a profound look. "Wife, look there, doesn’t it look like a cloud?"
"Where?" Mother Lin narrowed her eyes and looked in the direction he was pointing for a long time but failed to see anything unusual.
"Only smart people can see it." Father Lin said smugly, then Mother Lin just pulled his ear and dragged him into the house.
"You’re so smart, why don’t you help clean up the house?"
"Why resort to violence when words suffice!" Father Lin grumbled quietly.
Shen Zhiyu, Doudou, and Maomao played in the main room. They covered their mouths and giggled when they saw their grandfather’s ear being pulled by their grandmother.
"Zhiyu brother, can your dad really fly?" Doudou asked Zhiyu curiously.
He knew that sparrows and wild chickens could fly, but he had never seen anyone’s father fly before!
"Of course!" Zhiyu beat his chest proudly. He pointed to the courtyard wall and said, "My dad flew up there in one go!"
"So cool!" Maomao and Doudou exclaimed in surprise.
"It’s a pity I didn’t see my uncle." Maomao scratched his head and sighed.
"My dad said that once he’s done with his work, he’ll come back to pick me and mom up! Then, he’ll take all of us flying together!"
Zhiyu giggled. His father was so amazing that he definitely could carry all three of them and fly!
The other two children nodded vehemently in agreement.
Uncle is so amazing, he definitely can take all three of us flying!
Shen Wenchen suddenly sneezed.
The old ninth near him whispered, "Big Brother Shen, has someone been thinking about you?"
Shen Wenchen glanced at him, but Nanzhi’s face appeared in his mind.
Could it be her thinking about him?
By lunchtime, when it was time to eat, Father Lin, Mother Lin, and Chen Qiulan, Sun Cui, and others looked at the slightly yellow steamed buns for a moment, and didn’t dare to try them at first.
"Fat Girl, were you cheated when you went to buy the grain?" Mother Lin looked at the steamed buns in the dustpan and turned to Nanzhi.
Why is the flour this color?
"Mom, don’t worry , these buns are pretty good, and they even have a sweet taste!"
After Lin Yicheng finished speaking, he was the first to pick up a bun and take a bite.
Seeing her eldest son enjoying his food, Mother Lin also tried a bite. She tasted a slight sweetness and couldn’t help but be taken aback.
"Fat Girl, did you add sugar to the flour?"
"No, I just added some chestnut flour to the dough, so it tastes sweet when you eat it."
Nanzhi looked at the buns in the dustpan and then twitched the corner of her mouth. She just thought that chestnut flour is sweet, and it was the first time for parents to eat it, so she added more of it. But she forgot that adding too much chestnut flour would cause the buns to turn yellow when steamed.
Father Lin usually liked sweets, but they rarely bought sugar at home. Even if they bought some, it would be given to his grandson and daughter-in-law first. Now he was enjoying the buns so much that his eyes had narrowed with pleasure.
