Chapter 159: [Blizzard Manor] - Prophet’s part (6)

The dining room fell silent—no clinking chopsticks could be heard.

The butler’s smile began to stiffen, looking more like a painted expression on his aged face, slowly twisting into something disturbingly grotesque.

"Do you want to eat something?"

Drake’s voice rang out at that moment, drawing everyone’s attention. Turning, they realized he was talking to the child sitting beside him.

The child flinched slightly at Drake’s voice, clearly an extremely timid little one. A few people couldn’t help but silently note this before turning their eyes back to the steaming, fragrant dishes on the table, trying to decide which dish to take without being the first one to fall.

They were all mid-tier or higher espers who had experienced numerous dungeons—of course, they knew that dungeon challenges weren’t without solutions. No matter how difficult, there would always be a slim chance of survival!

Saphen tilted his head slightly, sneaking a glance at Drake, as if trying to confirm whether Drake was speaking to him.

Drake was still smiling, eyes focused intently on Saphen.

[Please, every time I see Drake smile like that, I get chills...]

[Maybe Drake doesn’t even realize how ugly and terrifying his smile looks.]

[Of course! Usually, the corners of his mouth only move when irritated or sneering at someone. No wonder his smile looks so creepy, hahaha.]

[Isn’t anyone wondering why Drake’s asking Saphen what he wants to eat? Could he be planning to get rid of Saphen in this round?]

[I think it might be a test.]

[No, Drake knows something the others—and we—don’t! This script feels different this time...]

Fiona, seated to one side, quietly suppressed her laughter. She truly wasn’t used to this kind of behavior from her captain!

After confirming that Drake was looking at him, Saphen raised his hand and pointed to the large steak plate near one of the two dark espers.

Drake narrowed his eyes slightly, glanced toward the two dark espers, then continued asking Saphen, "Point out the dishes you can eat—I want to have the same taste as you."

Saphen looked at Drake with a bit of suspicion but quickly pointed out the edible dishes.

All the edible dishes were near the weaker espers in this dungeon. And as for the area around Drake, there was only one edible dish—none of the food near him could be eaten!

Drake finally understood. He lowered his gaze to Saphen. This dungeon targeted the strong, and he was the strongest among the espers here. Sitting beside him was the only divine being in this dungeon. No wonder the layout of the meal was so absurd.

Under the stunned eyes of the others, Drake picked up his chopsticks and began placing food into Saphen’s bowl, then started eating himself. The others keenly noticed that Drake was eating the dishes the child had pointed out.

Although a sense of mystery lingered, the others didn’t move their chopsticks yet. They watched, waiting for fate to strike Drake.

Alice couldn’t help but feel a little anxious. "Captain Drake..."

Although Drake was powerful, he couldn’t afford to be careless in a dungeon that was this dangerous.

Alice had even begun to gather energy, ready to heal Drake at a moment’s notice.

"I heard children have strong intuition—it must be right!"

Fiona suddenly spoke up loudly and began eating, following Drake’s lead.

Alice looked at them, feeling like words were stuck in her throat.

Still, they waited. They waited until several dishes had noticeably lessened, yet Drake and his team showed no signs of collapsing. More of his teammates had joined in eating.

"Wait—leave some for the rest of us!"

Someone shouted, then quickly grabbed food, just like Drake. They didn’t want to be left with nothing—that would surely spell trouble!

The butler watched the group "happily" enjoying their meal and smiled, saying, "Seeing you all like this, Ethan must be very pleased!"

The butler was smiling, but his eyes were icy cold—he was displeased that these humans hadn’t fallen for any of the traps.

His gaze shifted to Saphen, profound and unfathomable.

Drake had already put down his chopsticks. He pulled Saphen into his arms and lifted his eyes, coldly meeting the butler’s gaze.

Saphen seemed frightened again and quickly curled up in Drake’s embrace. Drake raised a hand and gently stroked the boy’s back.

"Don’t be afraid."

As long as he was here, no one would lay a finger on the Prophet.

"This child must be special. Drake knows something... Frank, you’re not hiding anything from us, are you?"

After observing for some time outside the dungeon, Layla started to form a theory. She looked at Frank and asked seriously.

Frank quickly shook his head like a rattledrum and shrugged. "How would I know anything? I don’t even know what Drake has figured out. But Drake really is an outstanding esper—don’t worry, he’ll definitely handle this dungeon."

Layla frowned slightly. "It’s not even the first night yet, but..."

"Bang! Boom!"

A thunderous noise came from upstairs, drawing everyone’s attention. By now, most of the edible dishes on the table had already been consumed. Some people immediately jumped to their feet.

One esper roared, "The sound came from Rowan’s room—he hasn’t come downstairs!"

With that, he dashed ahead, the others quickly following.

The freelance esper turned pale. He suddenly felt lucky that he had been kicked out of that room—at least he was safely sitting here. Rowan’s fate, on the other hand, was uncertain...

The butler said nothing. As long as they finished their meal, he didn’t care what happened next.

"Bang!"

Rowan’s locked room door was kicked open, and the scene inside was immediately exposed before the two dark espers. Their faces turned pale instantly. Instead of rushing in, they turned back and waited for Drake.

Drake strolled, though his pace wasn’t exactly leisurely. Seeing the dark espers’ grim expressions, he glanced into the room.

Almost at once, Drake bent down to shield Saphen’s eyes and said, "Close your eyes. Don’t look."

Saphen blinked in confusion at Drake but obediently shut his eyes. The small hand-held in Drake’s gave a squeeze.

Drake smiled faintly, then straightened up and looked into the room.

[Someone please understand me, huhuhuhu—every time Drake shows this gentle side, I can’t handle it. I used to dislike him because of his volatile personality, but now... what’s happening to him? He’s seducing me, I swear I have evidence!]

[Long-time fans of Drake wouldn’t find this unfamiliar—before he got his Wrath of the Dragon powers, this is precisely how he was!]

[He became the strongest but lost so much in the process... today, I’ve fallen for Drake even more.]

[And nobody’s going to talk about the corpse on the ground? You’re all just fangirls, huh...]

At that moment, the scene in the room became clear: everything was in disarray as if a violent storm had swept through. The furniture was strewn across the floor. Burn marks and blast dents covered the walls from small explosions.

Rowan, a dark esper with explosive powers—not exactly weak, and known for dominating normal dungeons before this special one—

And yet, less than four hours into this dungeon, he now lay on the ground... a corpse.
