Chapter 148: Warning for sensitive stomachs! [The Corpse Collector] (24)
As Silvanus had anticipated, Silas indeed led him to the village chief’s house.
Like the other houses in the village, the chief’s home was now in ruins. The scorched mud had hardened and shattered into pieces on the ground, exposing the inside of the house.
At first glance, everything appeared normal. Silvanus took in the entire layout of the not-so-large house with a single sweep of his eyes.
He wondered where the mechanism leading to the underground basement was hidden. But just then, Silas suddenly moved. He walked to the center of the house, narrowed his eyes at Silvanus, and asked, "Are you ready?"
Silvanus frowned slightly, but before he could say anything, Silas suddenly lifted one leg and stomped it hard onto the ground. Cracks instantly spread across the floor, radiating outward from the point of impact!
"Crack! Boom boom boom!"
The deafening sound echoed as everything happened in the blink of an eye. In no time, the floor collapsed, and a pit opened up, swallowing both Silas and Silvanus.
The moment the strange event occurred, Silvanus couldn’t help but want to curse Silas. Did the man really not consider finding a subtler way to enter?
At this rate, by the time they found Bryan’s hideout, he would’ve either taken everything and left, or worse, set a trap waiting for them to walk right into it!
Silvanus thought irritably but still reacted swiftly, flipping midair and landing safely on his feet.
Before him was nothing but darkness, and the hand he placed on the ground suddenly sank downward.
His eyes widened slightly. Then, reacting with lightning speed, he leaned backward, arching his body in a shocking curve — so far back that his head and back nearly touched the floor.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
Arrows flew past where Silvanus had just been standing, glinting with the cold light of metal. Had he not dodged, they would have pierced straight through his heart!
Pushing off with force, Silvanus stood up and immediately leaped again, narrowly avoiding more arrows that shot past his legs. The arrows came like a torrential storm, but Silvanus wasn’t slow either — he dodged them all. He now clearly recognized the change in his body. After all, in the past, he would’ve never possessed such speed or reflexes — he’d have been turned into a human pincushion by now.
[Oh my god, husband!!!]
[Wife!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
[MY HUSBAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
[MY WIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
[More exclamation marks don’t mean you win...]
[So this is how people express awe?]
It took nearly two full minutes for the barrage of arrows to finally stop, but the dark corridor stretched on ahead with no end in sight. Who knew how many more traps awaited them?
Silvanus felt the veins on his forehead twitch, but now that they were here, he had no choice but to press on.
Before he could react again, his body was suddenly lifted. Silas charged forward at an inhuman speed, carrying him like a sack of potatoes. The wind howled past, tangling Silvanus’s hair and nearly preventing him from opening his eyes.
Silvanus was genuinely uncomfortable with the situation, but he didn’t struggle — he had no desire to feel the pain of falling from this height.
He roared, "What the hell are you doing?! Put me down, Silas!"
Silas didn’t even glance at him and simply replied, "Quit whining. I know exactly what you’re thinking, but trust me — Bryan won’t have time to escape. Everything will be fine... because I’m here."
He lowered his gaze slightly, meeting Silvanus’s eyes. He didn’t even need to look at the scene before him to flawlessly dodge every obstacle.
Massive boulders, arrows, daggers, or sharp spikes — none of these posed any threat to Silas. A boulder blocking the path was crushed with a single hand, his expression calm as he looked at Silvanus as if nothing had happened.
Silvanus even noticed that when Silas ran, only his legs moved; his upper body seemed detached, completely unaffected by the incredible speed.
He was truly not human!
No matter how composed Silvanus appeared, his mind was filled with doubt and amazement.
Silvanus didn’t know what Silas really was, but it seemed Silas somehow understood Silvanus’s desires as easily as Silvanus could read Silas’s thoughts and intentions.
Was this dungeon really just a simple leveling dungeon? Silvanus’s instincts told him Silas should not be here.
[...there must be a reason why these two keep asking each other what the other really is, haha.]
[Clearly, if he were human, even an esper couldn’t handle everything so flawlessly and effortlessly like Silas!]
The audience marveled at Silas’s incredible skills.
Meanwhile, deep inside the underground chamber, the moment Silas shattered the ground with a stomp, Bryan felt a powerful tremor.
He furrowed his brow, his eyes cold and empty.
He lowered his gaze to the "masterpiece" beneath his hands.
Julie was pinned tightly on a wooden table by five large iron nails, completely exposed without a scrap of cloth. Four nails secured her arms and legs in an X shape, and one was driven into her abdomen, rendering her completely immobile.
Fresh blood soaked the entire wooden table and the floor beneath. Her body bore the marks of brutal mutilation — her chest cruelly wounded, her torso split from throat to groin, and her lower body grievously harmed.
Bryan gripped a portion of her intestine and yanked it forcefully, tearing it loose with his strength. Blood mixed with waste splattered everywhere, releasing a sickening, foul stench.
Julie’s body convulsed violently in pain. She might have tried to struggle or escape, but the five nails prevented her from moving even slightly.
Her hair was tangled and wild, her eyes rolled back, saliva and blood dripped from her mouth. She could make no sound — her tongue had been removed. Either she had lost consciousness from the pain or was already dead.
Bryan watched the scene with unsettling calmness, madness, and exhilaration flickering in his eyes.
Satisfied with Julie’s state, he then looked up at the creature hanging upside down on the wall. A twisted, mutilated figure, battered and nailed, its body grotesquely distorted — a horrifying testament to the torment it had endured.
He chuckled softly and said, "This is how they treated Mother, wasn’t it? Don’t worry. I made sure they felt everything — everything that Father, Mother, and little sister had to endure. No one will escape. No one."
The monster on the wall tilted its head slightly, its body a dark gray-black, almost blending into the shadows. The faint filament light barely cast a vague silhouette of it. Its body was sticky and wrinkled as if soaked in water for days, covered in a glossy slime.
Its four limbs clung tightly to the wall, upside down, its legs spread at a shocking distance apart. Its black intestines hung loosely in midair, some coiled around its neck.
It tilted its head, the head twisted a full one hundred eighty degrees. Amidst its tangled hair were two empty eye sockets, bleeding fresh blood, staring straight at Bryan. Its lips curled into a grin that stretched ear to ear — blackened, grotesque, and repulsive. Yet Bryan smiled joyfully and said, "Ha ha ha, yes, it’s me, your son. The monsters were all killed by me. This time, let’s leave the village together!"
Then he exerted his strength and continued pulling Julie’s intestines out. Julie’s motionless body convulsed violently, shaking the table until it finally stilled. By now, she was likely completely dead; no matter what Bryan did, she could no longer feel a thing.
"Soon enough, we’ll find my sister and leave this place!"
Saying this, he looked toward his father, who sat heavily on the ground. His swollen body made this place feel cramped for such a creature.
He resembled the corpses Silvanus had seen on the lake this morning — ready to burst at any moment — but with bright red eyes and a mouth full of shark-like teeth constantly dripping saliva, he was obviously much more ferocious than those corpses.
Bryan was utterly relaxed. After all, he knew how dense and dangerous the traps were at the entrance here; no living being could have possibly come this fast...
"Boom!"
Just as Bryan thought this, a loud explosion echoed, snapping him back to reality.
He opened his eyes wide and saw the village’s corpse collector kicking down the door, standing there like a giant statue.
At the same time, Silas unexpectedly released his grip. Luckily, Silvanus reacted quickly enough to stay upright rather than fall face-first.
His heart had grown cold, no longer showing any emotion toward Silas. He simply moved forward, his cold eyes glancing past Julie’s mutilated body on the wooden table before shifting to Bryan, who still held a fresh piece of intestine.
Bryan looked the same as ever — neat hair and a calm smile as he looked at Silvanus. Ignoring the fresh blood smeared across his face and body and the thing he held, he seemed almost ordinary, despite the cruelty of his actions.
"Well, Silvanus, so you’re the survivor... just as I expected... ha ha ha ha!"
