Chapter 133: [The Corpse Collector] (9)

Silvanus felt that besides being an actor, maybe he was also an excellent scriptwriter—especially when all the viewers kept praising the storyline, not knowing that every scene was just his impromptu performance.

I’m genuinely a genius, Silvanus couldn’t help but praise himself.

On the outside, he looked at Silas with a stern and scrutinizing gaze. Silas stared back at him, his face expressionless, even his blinks seemed as though they were pre-programmed.

Suddenly, the man walked forward, his body passing through Silvanus’s spirit.

Silvanus pressed his lips together and followed Silas like a ghost clinging to his body.

He realized he couldn’t stray more than three meters from Silas. How ridiculous is that? And he still had no idea what was up with that bizarre fishing rod.

At that moment, Silvanus followed Silas’s gaze and saw something in the distance.

It was a corpse floating on the surface of the water. All that could be seen was the tattered clothing, slightly puffed up.

Without hesitation, Silas hurled his large fishing rod toward the corpse. The tendons in his arm bulged, his muscles taut—relying on sheer strength, he expertly hooked the corpse and swiftly reeled it in.

The body spun continuously as it drew closer to the boat.

It gradually rose above the water’s surface, revealing its horrifying appearance.

The corpse had bloated to an unimaginable size. Its skin had turned bluish-purple, eyes bulging, lips flipped outward, and an enormous tongue lolled out. The whole thing was grotesquely twisted and repulsive beyond belief.

This was Silvanus’s first time confronting a corpse like this—and honestly, compared to the monsters, this wasn’t any less terrifying.

Silas remained expressionless as he pulled the corpse closer with his bare hands and tied a thick rope around it, securing it to the side of the boat.

Once everything was settled, he returned to rowing the boat, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings, continuing his search for more floating corpses.

Even though Silvanus was currently in a soul state, unable to touch or smell anything, just looking at that corpse was enough to make him imagine the stench—rotten and nauseating.

Yet Silas’s expression remained utterly unmoved, as if he couldn’t sense anything. Not even the grotesque distortion of the corpse fazed him in the slightest.

He’s not human... then again, this is a dungeon—we shouldn’t expect normal people here.

The boat drifted across the water until late afternoon. Silas didn’t even eat or drink the entire time. Meanwhile, Silvanus floated directly in front of him, whether or not Silas could see him.

Silas still wore the same blank expression. Maybe he really can’t see me, Silvanus thought to himself.

Just then, Silas suddenly stood up straight. His eyes sharpened instantly, and then he lunged forward like a leopard—straight at Silvanus.

Silvanus’s eyes widened. For a moment, he even forgot he was just a soul. He stood frozen, eyes shut tight.

Whoosh!

A sharp wind cut through the air. Silas had passed right through Silvanus’s body and started pulling a rope—it looked like he had discovered another corpse.

The corners of his lips curled slightly as if he were smiling. But for some reason, Silvanus found that smile incredibly unpleasant—almost like the man was mocking him.

Silvanus stood with his arms crossed, his small face scrunched up as he tried to suppress the childish emotions inside him.

This isn’t good. This state is messing with my emotions. Even though he could still sense that his rational mind was intact, controlling his feelings was becoming harder and harder.

He needed to find a way to return to his body immediately.

Meanwhile, not far away, Lucian and Ryan both wore bleak expressions—so much so that even someone like Aboli, who rarely thought before speaking, didn’t dare to joke around with them at a time like this.

"Don’t worry too much. We can take Silvanus to see a doctor once we leave the village. Maybe that fall yesterday affected his head more than we thought. It’s not just memory loss..." Bryan spoke up, attempting to ease their worries.

Upon hearing that, Lucian’s expression turned cold as he glared at Bryan and sneered, "Oh? Then why aren’t we leaving the village right now? We’re willing to forgo the reward."

Bryan froze for a moment. Ryan said, "Besides, Lucian and I pulled two corpses out of the water. Aren’t you going to contact the person who issued this mission?"

Bryan was left speechless, unable to say another word. His face darkened as he looked at Lucian and Ryan, but the two of them didn’t care about his reaction.

If it weren’t for the restrictions within this dungeon, Lucian might’ve already lost his temper and ripped Bryan’s ugly, deceitful face to shreds. Unlike the rest of the team, Lucian and Ryan were intimately familiar with the details of this dungeon—and they also knew the worst possible outcome awaiting everyone here.

And, of course, Bryan played no small part in that.

Ryan lowered his gaze to Silvanus, still sitting motionless on the chair. His eyes held no light. Those emerald eyes, which once looked like a sea of stars, now seemed dull and lifeless.

He looked like a fragile porcelain doll, and everything about him twisted Ryan’s heart with guilt and unease.

"I never should’ve left him alone on shore..." Ryan murmured the same line he’d been repeating back.

[The camerawork knows what it’s doing. Looking at Silvanus’s face, I no longer care what drama is happening in this dungeon. Let it be boring!]

[But this dungeon is destined to be exciting! Props to the scriptwriter this time!]

[Silvanus’s current look is awakening the beast in me. Who can understand this?! That blank gaze... I... I can’t take it!!!]

[The comment section is getting corrupted again...]

[It’s hopeless.]

[Only now are people noticing this? I took my pants off ages ago.]

[This comment section is truly cursed aaaaaa]

Lucian glanced outside and said, "It’s time."

Ryan nodded, took Silvanus’s hand, and gently pulled him to his feet. Though he didn’t say a word, Silvanus at least obediently followed their lead.

They were preparing to go out and find the corpse retriever. Naturally, they wouldn’t leave Silvanus home alone in this condition—they weren’t about to gamble on what might happen.

When Lucian saw the injury on Silvanus’s hand, he immediately remembered that strange contraption beside the corpse retriever they’d seen that morning.

The sharp fishhooks hanging from the wooden plank—were more than capable of causing wounds deep enough to reach the bone.

It was clear now that the corpse retriever was somehow connected to Silvanus’s current state.

They had intended to find the corpse retriever, but no matter how far they swam, they couldn’t spot a single boat. Yet when they turned back, the lakeshore remained close behind them—as if all their efforts had been meaningless.

Lucian and Ryan had no choice but to return and ask the village chief about the retriever’s schedule.

Though the village chief seemed a little displeased and skeptical when they brought up the corpse retriever, he still gave them the man’s name and mentioned that he usually returned to shore in the late afternoon, around sunset. He also explained that the man didn’t live with the rest of the villagers but in a secluded house deep in the forest.

Even though the sky above the village was so gloomy it was impossible to tell the time of day, Lucian used his watch to estimate when sunset would arrive.

The three of them quickly headed out again. Bryan remained behind, watching their departing figures, his gaze dark and unreadable.

"I... I don’t care about the money anymore. I want to go back. I want to leave this village..."

Just then, Julie’s trembling, fear-filled voice rang out.

It was as if she had finally awoken from a nightmare, breaking free from her state of endless muttering. But her face was still deathly pale, overflowing with fear and panic.

Bryan lowered his gaze to Julie, his eyes devoid of emotion.

Tch... Ryan and Lucian aren’t the only ones who want to leave here now.

Meanwhile, Silvanus and Silas finally returned to shore.

Today, Silas had retrieved a total of three corpses.

As soon as his boat reached land, the silhouettes of villagers began to appear along the edge of the lake.

But they only dared to stand at a distance, not getting too close—almost as if they were terrified of touching even a drop of the lake water.

Who would’ve thought that this lake, once the source of their livelihood, once a place where countless villagers bathed and played, had now become the root of all their fear?

But to Silvanus, the villagers seemed to fear Silas almost as much as they feared the lake.

The moment Silas stepped onto shore, the crowd immediately scattered, instinctively maintaining a perfect three-meter distance from him.

Silas appeared used entirely to this. In a cold voice, he said, "Three bodies. See for yourselves whose families they belong to."

With that, he quickly left—without asking for payment or compensation, as though his hard day’s work was merely part of a monotonous routine, endlessly repeated.

A few villagers swallowed hard, staring at the large fish in Silas’s hand. Their eyes were filled with hunger as if they might devour it raw at any moment.

And yet, none dared to take even half a step closer.

Silvanus could hear the whispers and murmurs behind Silas.

Not a single kind word was spoken about him.
