Becomes a Rebel Ninja After Annihilating the Hyuga Clan -
Chapter 120
"Really, they plan to assassinate Kaido?"
"Yeah, Neiki-nii, they're being way too reckless, thinking Kaido is still just some ordinary money-grubbing merchant!" Hanabi crossed her arms and shook her head like an old critic when talking about what the students at the Kengakure school planned to do.
Neiki smiled faintly. Since the training method rooted in the Byakugan Divine Tree was promoted in the Land of Waves, those who progressed the fastest and reaped the most Byakugan essence were primarily the local landlords and merchants.
These people either lacked talent, were too old, or had family businesses to manage, so most of them couldn't join Kengakure. However, that didn’t dampen their dedication to training. Compared to the students of Kengakure, who had to split their focus between training and learning sword techniques, these individuals advanced much faster in their cultivation.
In this world, where bloodline inheritance is more important than anything else, systematic ninjutsu training is extremely precious. Many ninjas treat it as a treasure, reluctant to share it. Any risk of it being leaked is nipped in the bud—that’s also why most rogue ninjas are heavily hunted by their original villages. The risk of information, especially ninjutsu information, leaking out is enormous.
If ninjutsu knowledge reaches enemy villages, it's one thing; if it falls into the hands of ordinary people, it’s much worse. It’s like leaking military weapons to the public. While the military is controlled by the state, armed civilians pose a significant threat.
To prevent this, the Five Great Ninja Villages have agreements to stop ninjutsu teachings from spreading among the public.
Systematic ninjutsu training is the foundation for a ninja village's survival. Young people may not understand its value, but there are many wise individuals in the Land of Waves, often among the wealthy and influential families.
Neiki didn’t look down on the common people, but for those struggling at the bottom, a training method might seem less valuable than a bowl of rice. But to those who knew its worth, Neiki’s casual gift was a priceless treasure, something passed down through millennia.
You can’t say the common people lack vision. In these desperate times, struggling to maintain basic survival, how could they have the energy to aim for lofty goals? That’s also why Neiki established experimental fields to advance the world's productivity—not just to showcase the superiority of the “reformed” system, but to allow the large number of common people to break free from arduous labor and have more time to devote to Byakugan training.
In this world, some people barely survive, some manage to live with dignity, and some enjoy great ease. Neiki’s so-called reform aimed to allow everyone to lift their heads and look at the stars, giving them a chance to stand alongside those stars.
Neiki’s goal was to stand on the shoulders of these people, who would strive towards the stars, and with their support, surpass the stars and become a god.
Though Neiki’s plan had only just begun a few months ago, with the same amount of Byakugan essence distributed, those caught up in various desires on this narrow path had already started showing clear distinctions.
Leading the pack weren’t the students of Kengakure; Neiki didn’t just see them as nourishment for the Byakugan Divine Tree, so their slower progress didn’t matter much.
Above the students were the aforementioned landlords and merchants who understood the rarity of the training opportunity. They treated training like a daily regimen and, strictly following the method, many had already reached the second stage.
The foremost among them, who had reached the later stages of the second level and was close to breaking into the third, was the infamous world-class tycoon, Kaido, who monopolized the Land of Waves’ shipping trade.
As the first person Neiki implanted with the Byakugan seal, Kaido was greedy and cunning, with nothing special about him. Neiki had chosen him simply as a future target for the people of the Land of Waves to vent their anger on.
Though Neiki used almost all of Kaido’s wealth to maintain Kengakure, and despite the large sums of money Kaido extorted from the people of the Land of Waves ending up in Neiki’s pockets, Neiki didn’t care about Kaido’s life.
To Neiki, Kaido was destined to die. He would die at the hands of the people of the Land of Waves, who were beginning to grasp control of their fate. He would become a stepping stone for their victory, his blood the most brilliant stroke in their awakening.
From this perspective, in Neiki’s script for Kaido, his death was actually honorable and meaningful. His death would bring new life to many, a form of glory.
But now, it seemed Kaido wasn’t planning on being “honored.”
Kaido was incredibly diligent, to a degree that even surprised Neiki.
Though the Byakugan stages these people reached were a diluted version of Neiki’s Byakugan, the visual enhancement and physical improvement from progressing through the stages were real.
Despite not learning the sword techniques that paired with the Byakugan, Kaido, having reached the second stage, was almost as strong as a Chunin. He wouldn’t be easily taken down by the students of Kengakure, who hadn’t even graduated yet.
"Even though the Grey Eyes are a lower version of our Byakugan, they are still a kind of Kekkei Genkai, with levels of power determined by concentration. So, even without his rogue ninja guards, Kusama and the others would struggle to defeat Kaido."
The Byakugan seals implanted into people's eyes glowed a dim grey when activated, thus the local people of the Land of Waves called them “Grey Eyes.”
The Grey Eyes, in essence, were just remnants of the Byakugan refined into essence. But the form also matters, and these Byakugan remnants, integrated as Byakugan seals, were embedded into the eyes of the recipients.
Chapter 122: Colored Storybook and Dark Epic
"So, Kaido and his people gaining power from advancing stages isn't actually due to the Byakugan in their eyes—the Byakugan isn't that strong—but rather from the Byakugan seal in their eyes. It's the Byakugan Divine Tree's way of positively encouraging those who diligently train."
"Then they're all going to die, right?" Hanabi giggled, but upon meeting Neiki's gaze, she immediately stopped, pouting. "Kaido is really despicable, hiding so well. Is he just waiting for those idiots… those students to come to him?"
"Maybe, but this will be a good lesson for those students," Neiki said calmly.
Hanabi, finding Neiki's tone unusual, asked, "Aren't you going to stop them?"
She knew that her brother Neiki was the esteemed leader of Kengakure, known as Senju Hashirama, and she had accompanied Neiki during the initial raid on Kaido.
"A true ninja who can stand alone must be able to face the consequences of their choices. Their recklessness now will serve as a valuable lesson for their future growth—if they have a future," Neiki replied nonchalantly.
Hanabi, contemplating Neiki's words, realized she might have misunderstood his intentions. Did he really not care about the lives of the students he had trained so hard?
"What if they succeed?" she asked, looking up at him earnestly.
"Why would I care about their success or failure?" Neiki tapped her head gently. "If you're so concerned about them, why don't you go help?"
"I don't really… I mean, my friends asked for my opinion, and I haven't agreed yet…" Her voice trailed off as she saw the knowing smile on Neiki's face. She bit her lip, realizing that Neiki had seen through her thoughts.
All the talk about "a ninja must face the consequences of their choices" was clearly aimed at her, encouraging her to make her own decisions without hiding.
"If I don't go, will they die?" Hanabi asked sincerely.
"No," Neiki answered honestly. The pigs aren't fat enough yet; if they die now, it would ruin Neiki's plans. Of course, they wouldn't lose their lives, but a few missing limbs were inevitable.
Hanabi sighed in disappointment. "In that case, I'll go with them."
"Have fun," Neiki said, patting her head.
Soon, Hanabi left to inform her friends of her decision. Neiki watched her go and shook his head lightly.
Failure is a valuable experience on the path of a ninja's life. At least in the Land of Waves, Neiki could ensure that their failures wouldn't cost them their lives. But since they chose this path to reach the heavens, they couldn't stay in the Land of Waves forever. Experiencing failure now would help them avoid losing their lives in the future.
This was true for the students and for Hanabi, even though she was stronger.
While this small drama unfolded in the Land of Waves, Neiki had written a colorful storybook for the young adventurers.
Meanwhile, in the Kirigakure of the Land of Water, not far from the Land of Waves, a dark epic authored by the same hand was slowly beginning.
In this script, death was just a common adornment.
"…Hey, what are you doing?"
The Kiri Anbu hiding in the corner of the Mizukage building, placing explosive tags, suddenly turned around to see a broad figure grinning at him.
"Xiguashan Fuguki…" the Anbu muttered, sweating profusely.
"Tsk tsk, not even an honorific? Such disrespect," Fuguki shook his head, seeming resigned to the young man's rudeness. He stepped forward, and the ground trembled beneath him. "Kisame was like this, and so are you. The younger generation of Kirigakure has no manners anymore."
In a flash of cold light, the kunai flying at him was caught. Fuguki used his other hand to grab the Anbu by the neck and slam him into the wall before asking, "So, who are you working for? Mei Terumi? Raiga? Or…"
"Someone who wants you all dead!" the Anbu yelled from within the wall, his muscles and bones creaking. "The revolution is coming; no one can stop the wheel of history. I'll go ahead and wait for you in hell!"
With a tearing sound, his arm was ripped off with great force. Freeing himself from Fuguki's grip, the Anbu turned and charged at Fuguki with a kunai in his mouth, aiming for his neck.
"Ridiculous!" Fuguki sneered, smashing the Anbu's head with one hand, splattering yellowish fluid on the walls.
The headless body collapsed, and Fuguki licked his fingers while kicking the corpse. "A traitor this arrogant! You can wait in hell forever!"
After smashing the body into pulp, Fuguki's anger subsided. He turned to inspect the explosive tags the Anbu had set up, laughing coldly.
"Trying to create chaos in the Kirigakure for an inside-outside attack? Elder Yagura had already anticipated this. You're dreaming!"
As the date for the Mizukage inauguration ceremony approached, such incidents were becoming more frequent. The culprits included Kiri Anbu, rogue ninjas recently sneaking into the village, and even some clansmen from the Kirigakure. These clansmen weren't necessarily bought off by outsiders; they were simply dissatisfied with Yagura taking over as Mizukage and were using the opportunity to vent their anger.
Regardless, the Kirigakure, prepared for external subversion, was coping well under Yagura's leadership. The so-called revolution and subversion, a combination of internal and external collusion, was inevitable given the lack of unity within the Kirigakure.
The betrayal by many Kiri ninjas was not surprising to the village's leadership. This was a direct conflict between progressives and conservatives. With years of political experience, the Kirigakure leaders had lists of those who disagreed with their views and closely monitored the wavering progressives.
"Fuguki-sama, Elder Yagura wants to see you."
The voice came from one of Yagura's personal attendants.
Fuguki, a bit surprised, asked, "I still have a few traitors to deal with… What's going on?"
"It seems Mei Terumi… has been spotted outside the village…"
