Chapter 90: Fever

"No!"

Lyra’s loud shout woke up Noah who was sleeping beside her. He frowned and looked down at Lyra mumbling in her sleep.

Her eyebrows were tightly knit in agony with sweat covering her entire face. She breathed heavily and looked like someone in pain.

"Baby dove?" Noah held her trembling figure in his arms and called her softly making sure to not startle her.

Whereas Lyra continued to mumble painfully in her sleep "Please...don’t go". Her voice was laced with sadness and desperation making Noah confused.

He continued to hold her, caressing her back but soon panicked when her body started becoming hot with fever.

"Are you okay baby dove?" he asked as he checked her forehead with his palm.

"You are burning up!" his voice shook in terror learning about her fever. He laid Lyra on the bed and tucked her inside the animal skin blanket to avoid the cold breeze from the night sky. After that, he got down from the bed and rushed out of the room.

Climbing down the stairs, he rushed inside the bathroom, then filled a small stone jar with water, and went towards Blake’s room. Holding the water pot in one hand, he knocked on the wooden door of the room.

Inside, Blake opened his snake eyes and looked towards the door. Flicking out his tongue still in his beast form, he sensed Noah’s presence outside the door. Turning into his beastman form, he strode towards the door and opened it, "Why are you here at such a late hour?"

Noah retreated from the door and answered him in an anxious voice "Baby dove is burning with fever, I thought about informing you before calling the witch doctor"

Blake widened his eyes hearing Noah’s words. Without wasting any more time, he rushed towards the second floor. Noah likewise followed after him still holding the water stone pot in his hands.

Reaching Lyra’s room, Blake paced towards the bed "Lilly!?" His loud voice resounded inside the silent castle, waking up everyone.

Lucas and Victor woke up from their slumber hearing Blake’s voice. Confused, both of them came out of their rooms and headed towards the second floor through stone stairs.

While inside the room, Blake pulled Lyra towards him and inquired in a worried voice "What happend Lilly?" Not receiving an answer from her made him much more nervous.

Noah on another side, took a small piece of animal skin and damped it with water, then removed the excess amount of water and went towards the bed "Move aside"

Blake glanced at Noah and narrowed his eyes "What are you doing?"

"My father used to do this when my mother was down with fever" Noah informed as he placed the folded animal skin on her forehead, "I think she had a nightmare" he mentioned as he wiped her sweat-stricken face with another piece of clothing.

Blake put her down on the bed and held one of her hands in his palm. soon Lucas and Victor entered the room and looked at Lyra’s sleeping figure "What happened snake?" Lucas asked moving towards the stone bed.

"She has a fever" Noah answered leaving Lucas in shock. The latter rushed towards her and held her other hand "Ly?"

"Should I call the witch doctor?" Victor asked worriedly.

Noah shook his head "Let us wait and watch for some more time. If the fever doesn’t reduce, then we can call for him"

All of them nodded their head in agreement.

Meanwhile, in the forest of Wayland, Killian’s auburn eyes narrowed in dread. He turned back into his beastman form clutching his chest his hand, then he groaned painfully "Ah!"

Theodore peered at Killian from the sky and noticed his abnormality. Descending, he turned into his beastman form "Are you alright?"

Killian looked up to Theodore and shook his head "Something is happening to my treasure" he hesitated as he continued talking "She is in pain, someone is messing with her seal which is concealing her powers"

Theodore frowned upon hearing that "Is she in danger?"

"I should go" Killian stated as he closed his eyes "Kenna, open the portal into the beast city, I must return"

Kenna materialized into a small flaming bird and replied anxiously "I can’t open a portal inside the forest of Wayland master, this place is filled with some mysterious power that is blocking me from opening the portal"

Killian grimaced at Kenna "Can you detect the power which is deterring you?"

"It is someone from the tiger tribe master, only they can manipulate other powers and control it for a short duration" Kenna replied with conviction.

"Tiger tribe?" Theodore was the one who asked it, "It is Prescott, only he can do this"

Killian gazed at Theodore "Then it is confirmed that your mate is in this territory"

Theodore nodded his head "That’s right" then he got ready to turn into his beast form and looked at Killian "You return to Lyra, I know you are struggling after getting far away from her. I will stay back here and look for Iria on my own"

"It is risky staying in this forest alone," Killian said still reluctant to leave. Although it hurt him in staying away from Lyra, he didn’t want to worry her anymore by putting her father in danger.

Theodore smiled realizing his thoughts "I will be fine Killian. Even if I may not be as strong as you, I can still handle those two pests and save my mate"

Killian frowned hearing his words "It is not that I don’t believe your ability, I’m just worried about disappointing my treasure. You are her father and it will make her sad if something happens to you, so it is my responsibility to keep you safe"

Theodore chuckled after listening to Killian’s declaration "Are you sure about this?"

Killian nodded his head "Blake is there to take care of her, so I’m not worried"

"You trust him that much?" Theodore asked raising his brows.

"He loves her" Killian replied sulking. Even if he felt wretched to say this, he knew that Blake loved Lyra so much, and also knew that Lyra loved him back just as much. Not because of being soulmates, but she loved him because he was Blake. It hurt him, but he had no other option other than to accept this because he loved his treasure too much to do otherwise. Sometimes he even thought of eloping with her, but soon discarded those thoughts because he was scared of receiving her hatred. He wanted to preserve her precious smile directed towards him no matter what it took.
