Chapter 84: Trauma

Lyra shook her head seeing his shamelessness. Then both of them continued conversing as they grilled the meat.

As more time passed, the banquet was filled with more people. Beastmen of various kinds occupied the empty bonfires with their females. Whereas, bachelor beastmen acquired separate bonfires for themselves.

Demir who entered the event with his tribesmen and father darted his eyes searching for someone in the crowd. The scorpion king observed his son’s impatient look and chuckled "Just go and search your female, I will oversee our tribesmen"

"I was going to anyway, so you don’t have to remind me" Demir answered and rushed inside, leaving his father bewildered.

"What a disrespectful son I have" the king commented as he shook his head.

After leaving his father’s side, Demir proceeded to search for his sunshine. The flame in the bonfire created a surreal image, as his eyes finally spotted the one he was looking for. His lips tilted upwards as he made his way through the crowd.

Lyra blew the grilled meat and put it in her mouth. Her eyes lit up in delight as she chewed the savory meat in her mouth "This is so delicious" words left her mouth unconsciously earning a chuckle from Victor.

"It is the meat of wild boar, which is considered as the tastiest food in the beast world," Victor said when he saw her eating with gusto.

She blinked her eyes "Wild boar?" then she gulped "I’m scared of them"

"Why?"

"I was attacked by one as soon as I arrived in this world and I still remember running for my life" She answered as she remembered her first encounter with the wild boar. If not for Lucas’s arrival at the right moment, she would have been trampled to the ground that day.

Victor raised his brows "There are quite vicious for even a beastman to confront, You were lucky that day for encountering only one and not the sounder. They normally roam around in groups and are difficult to hunt"

Lyra nodded her head "I was indeed lucky that day"

They halted their conversation hearing Demir’s voice "Sunshine!"

Both turned their head in his direction and saw Demir beaming at them.

Victor clicked his tongue annoyed "Did he have to come just when I had some alone time with my love"

Lyra giggled hearing his grumble. Then she looked at Demir "Have a seat Demir"

Demir smiled and took a seat beside her "You look lovely today sunshine"

Her face heated up after hearing a compliment from a handsome man like Demir. She cleared her throat to hide her embarrassment "Thank you for the compliment, You also look handsome today" she added. Well, Demir always looked handsome but it was not a lie to tell that, today he looked extra good-looking. He was wearing a robe made by what she recognized as the fabric from the mermaid tribe which covered both his upper and lower body. His golden eyes looked sharp and fascinating in contrast with his dark brown hair which almost resembled black in the nighttime.

On another side, Demir’s smile broadened hearing her words "Really? Do I look handsome in your eyes?" he asked excitedly forgetting Victor’s presence. His question was answered by Victor "Don’t think too highly of yourself, she just said that as passing words in return for your compliment. Which female would like you anyway"

Demir’s mood plummeted with Victor’s words. He wore a sad face and bent his head. Lyra glared at Victor and looked at Demir who was sulking like a puppy drenched in rain "I did not say those words just in passing Demir, You really look handsome today"

"No need to coax me, sunshine, I know that everyone detests cold-blooded beastmen" he replied smiling sadly.

Hearing him even Victor felt bad. He scolded himself for poking Demir in matters related to females. He knew that Demir lacked confidence because of his mother’s hate towards him. He personally heard that woman’s words every time he visited Demir ’No one likes a cold-blooded beastman like you, I abhor your kind, Well it is same for every female’

Victor still remembered that hateful woman’s poisonous words directed towards young Demir and he felt guilty for doing the same thing even after knowing his condition.

"I apologize for my words Demir, I shouldn’t have said something like that.I didn’t mean it" Victor said feeling regretful.

Demir widened his eyes and shook his head "It’s fine Victor, I know that you didn’t mean it. It is just me being a little sensitive"

Lyra frowned looking at his sad face. She still didn’t know properly about Demir’s issue regarding his trauma, but seeing his lack of confidence just because of his kind, made her sad. Demir was such a nice guy, of course, he was handsome, but more than that, he was the most thoughtful and reasonable male around her. As for others, Blake loved her too much, Lucas was the most jealous when she spent time with others, whereas Noah was thoughtful but he did it only in her matter and she knew it, Victor was overwhelming sometimes and Killian was all of this mixed with extra effects, that guy didn’t like anyone other than her.

In contrast to them, Demir was mild, but others said that scorpion beastmen were unreasonable. Maybe it was true and Demir managed to hide it from her, but as much as she knew about him, he was a perfect gentleman. So she wanted to bring him out of his shell.

"Demir" she called him bringing his attention to her "I am an important person in your life right?"

Demir looked into her eyes and slowly nodded his head. Lyra smiled and held his hand making him flinch "I know that you like me, and I am also trying to like you back, and I don’t mind you being a cold-blooded beastman, in actual I don’t even care about those things, You have me with you who you love, so does it really matter if other people hate you for some stupid reasons?"

He clenched his jaw and shook his head "You are the only one that matters to me" he said and then lowered his head "But I’m scared of you hating me one day, im terrified thinking that you will also agree with other people someday, like my mother" he added bitterly.

Lyra frowned hearing his painful voice, ’Just how much did he go through to hate himself like this?’ she thought inwardly. Then her eyes turned determined as she leaned towards him, pecking his lips "Please trust me this once Demir, I promise that I will never break it, not until I die"

As soon as she finished her words, Demir covered her mouth with his palm "I beg you, Please don’t utter such words" his golden pupils brimmed with tears as he continued "I trust you sunshine, you are the only one I trust in this world. It may take some time to come out of my shell, but please don’t give up on me, call me crazy but I want to say this to you" he said in a determined voice "I will not leave your side, even if you come to hate me"

"Then don’t leave me," she said surprising him. Seeing his confusion, she clarified "Because I will never hate you"

He smiled at her words. Victor who was on the other side got up from his seat and left them alone. After he left, Demir closed the distance between them by pulling her towards him by her waist. He nuzzled at the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent "Don’t leave me sunshine" he whispered in his deep voice, making her shudder. It felt more like a warning than a plea to her ears, he continued as he kissed her earlobe "I will destroy everyone and everything if that happens"

Lyra sighed tiredly, she was now taking back her words that Demir was reasonable and sane. It was time for her to accept that, none of her males were sane. They were monsters, but what could she possibly do? They are her monsters to tame and love.
