A woman’s slender fingers anxiously tapped the wooden table in front of her. The same hands left the table before they reached her head. Lexi clutched her crimson locks between her fingers. She felt like ripping her hair apart. A silent scream that was unheard by others left her mouth. She was done! She just knew that she would die when her brothers returns. Lexi couldn’t even fathom what would transpire once her brother gets to know about her involvement in today’s incident.

When Elena asked for her help in entering the fox tribe, it was not supposed to be like this. She thought that the only one that would get harmed is Lyra.

Lexi never imagined an entire horde of stray beasts disrupting her brother’s coronation banquet. The thing that was supposed to happen was Lyra getting kidnapped without anyone’s knowing. Not this! It was never supposed to be like this. Hell, Lexi was even ready to bring that bitch out separately to get captured if that is what meant for Elena to reach her goal. But Elena betrayed her! Her friend pushed her into a fire pit without an escape.

’’Why! Why!’’ She shouted as she banged the table. The rage of getting betrayed felt like a death noose on her neck. Lexi knew about her brother’s temper more than anyone else. Xavier was calm most of the time and remained indifferent to others. But! But when someone crosses him, he gives them the worst death possible. No one was exempt from this. Not even family!

Lexi still remembered how Xavier ruthlessly killed the female that tried to force herself on him. He didn’t care about recuperations and went on harming that female. And that female was not someone that could be easily touched. She was like her the only princess of the Red fox tribe. That female was close to their family because her mother belonged to the red fox tribe. That was also the reason for Lexi having red hair. She received it from her mother.

She had heard that her late father met and fell in love with her mother when he went to visit the red fox tribe with her grandfather. Even amid their differences, they became mates and an ideal King and Queen of the silver fox tribe. But all of this shattered when Xavier’s mother came into the picture. That wretched female drugged her father and forced herself on him in hopes of becoming the queen of their tribe. But it terribly backfired because her father was not the one to take easy on someone that tried to disrupt their family’s peace and most of all, his patience broke as his mate got hurt due to all of this.

Her father didn’t dare face her mother when it happened. This led him to hate her brother who was the fruit of his life’s greatest mistake. And that in turn scarred Xavier for life. So it didn’t come as a surprise when he killed a female when she tried to do the same thing that his mother did to their father. His actions were valid so no one chastised him and only sent him away into exile.

The reason she was remembering all of this had a reason. Now that she allowed those stray beasts entry into their tribe and threatened their safety, her brother would never sit still. He has a valid reason to kill or at least punish her and none of the elders or tribesmen will be able to refute him. Xavier is a king now and his words are the law. Her blunder in disrupting his coronation banquet would end in her getting punished.

Lexi was not worried about getting punished or even getting exiled. But the thing that she was worried about the most was about her mates. When a female commits a crime, the ones to receive most of the punishment are her males. In the worst-case scenario, the said female’s most favorite males are killed to teach her a lesson.

’Hic ahh uh’ Tear-filled sobs left her mouth as she covered her face in her palms. She never intended this to happen. She didn’t want to lose her mates. Derrick’s death already took a toll on her mind and thoughts. She didn’t want to experience something like that once again. Her mates were innocent in this matter. Everything that occurred today was her fault, so they didn’t deserve to get punished. In all of this, the only mistake of theirs was having someone like her as their mate.

’’No I can’t let this happen’’ she murmured while wiping her tears away, ’’I should do something’’

With that, she got up from her seat before walking towards the door. She decided to confess everything to her brother before he starts investigating. She made up her mind to explain all about Elena’s plan. That all of this was only done to kidnap Lyra and to not disturb the banquet or harm the tribe. Her brother was sure to get angry but he would definitely understand because as she said, she never intended to put the tribe in danger.

Thinking more about it made Lexi confident enough to face her brother. But just when she opened the door and tried to step out, a male’s large arm in front of her made her stop.

’’Michael?’’ Lexi looked up in surprise to only find a familiar face. She tried to ask about his sudden appearance but stopped when his hand covered her mouth before he hastily pulled her into the room.

Only after he locked the door did he turn back and looked at her, ’’Where were you going?’’

’’To meet brother’’

’’Why?’’ he asked seriously but Lexi didn’t answer and that made him snap, ’’Lexi!’’

She flinched hearing his anger-filled voice. Michael rarely got angry with her and when he did, it was mostly when she did something that would harm herself.

’’You knew?’’ she muttered in conviction when she saw his disappointed face. His jaw was tightly clenched and she could see that he was trying his hardest to keep his composure, ’’Sorry...hic’’ a desperate cry left her mouth, ’’I really didn’t know that thi-this would happen. Michael, I really didn’t know....’’

Michael’s face softened looking at his pitiful mate. He moved before he could think and embraced her hunched self into his bosom, ’’There there, It will be alright...I will make it alright so don’t cry my flower’’

’’You can’t’’ came her feeble retort hearing his words, ’’Brother never forgives when someone crosses him. You know that too....’’

’’I know’’ Michael sighed resignedly. He was also one of the few people that knew about Xavier. Their new king was not someone benevolent or easygoing. The new fox king was like a monster with a full stomach after getting the throne. He was satisfied with getting revenge on the late fox king by becoming the new king against the former’s wishes. Xavier was happy for now but if someone dared to disrupt his happiness then there would be hell to pay.

And to make it even worse, Michael learned something new from his spies. Xavier was interested in a female. He felt his headache when he heard about that female’s identity.

She is the same female that Lexi and Elena tried to harm. Yes, it was Lyra. Michael didn’t know how this happend but seeing Xavier’s behavior for the past few weeks, he was about to say with conviction that their king indeed has a beloved. And that beloved was missing right now making their king leave in search of her. The new king didn’t care about his tribe that got attacked by stray beasts not long ago and went to look for her. He was prioritizing that female instead of the throne that he longed for so long. That was how important she was to him. Enough to forget all about his painful past.

Michael looked down at his beloved in his arms with a complicated gaze. She was already scared by the thought of disrupting the banquet, so he dared didn’t think about her reaction when she learns about her brother’s interest in the female that she hated. She would be devasted. But he had to do whatever it took to keep his mate safe. He would never let Xavier harm Lexi. Not on his watch.

’’I’ll keep you safe’’ he muttered as he hugged her tighter. To do that, he has to erase all of his mate’s traces in this matter that would put her in danger. Only that was not enough, he also has to frame someone else in his mate’s stead. That person has to take the fall for Lexi. And after thinking for some time, he finally got the best person that could be framed. The one that knew all about the security of the fox tribe and the only one close to Xavier right now.
