Chapter 197: The new fox king

After staying in the beast world for so long and getting kidnapped multiple times, Lyra managed to hone a skill. And that was a better instinct. Maybe not as much as her mates but at best, she could sense when someone approached her or someone’s eyes on her.

And this was a similar situation where she felt a smoldering gaze directed at her. She was immersed in looking at her handsome mates on the plaza when she sensed someone’s eyes on her, making her look toward them.

Two distinct colored pupils with onyx in one and crimson in another gazed at her. Lyra thought she was confused and turned behind her but no one was behind her. So the prince...No the King of the fox tribe was indeed looking at her.

’But why?’ she didn’t get why he was seeing her with such a gaze. Like he wanted to rush towards her. ’Does he have something that he has to say to me?’ she inwardly thought while tilting her head to the side. He was staring at her without even blinking his eyes and that made Lyra squirm in her place. She was worried that he might tear up in front of such a large audience and as though affirming her guess Xavier recoiled in his place while rubbing his eyes when one of the witch masters directed a flame torch towards him.

’’What the hell are you doing!?’’ Xavier growled and glared at the witch master. He was not paying attention because he was busy looking at that pretty female and failed to hear the witch master beside him.

And the clueless witch master didn’t know this and proceeded to continue the rite of handing over the fire torch to the new king but shrunk in his place when he received a stern glare from his king.

’’Are you alright, your majesty?’’ asked one of the fox tribe’s elders when he noticed their king’s discomfort. The new king harshly rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand but still continued to glare at the now trembling witch master.

’’Take that damn thing away from me!’’ Xavier yelled lowly when the witch master stood still in his place without moving. His eyes were literally burning and he had to suppress his urge from rushing away from the plaza. This was not the time for him to do something so reckless. Without any other choice left, he beckoned the witch master and took hold of the fire torch before walking towards his throne.

’’Get this over with’’ he said and the other witch masters fervently nodded their heads before continuing the ceremony.

As Xavier hastily proceeded with the ceremony, the other tribes’ kings glanced at each other in confusion. They didn’t understand the reason for the new king’s weird behavior.

Whereas Lucas, Demir, and Noah were clueless about the happenings on the plaza because they were standing with their respective tribes because they were still the princes and not kings.

So, the ones on the plaza were Blake, Victor, and Kyrell. Blake had the same thoughts as the other kings and looked at Xavier skeptically but Victor was different. He had a sly smirk on his face and he snickered looking at the fox king’s discomfort, ’’What is up with him?’’

And the one to answer that was Kyrell, ’’I guess he is happy enough to shed tears. I think he was waiting to take over the throne’’ that was the only explanation he was able to find after looking at Xavier’s tear-filled eyes. The new fox king was constantly wiping his eyes and looked overwhelmed with happiness.

As soon as kyrell finished his words, Victor looked at him in disbelief, ’’Are you for real?’’ at first he thought that Kyrell was joking but he ruled out that possibility because the former looked serious.

Victor couldn’t believe his eyes and glanced at Blake and noticed the latter chuckling. Same like him, Blake too was stunned hearing kyrell’s words but soon started to laugh. of all the scenarios one could come up with, the eagle king came up with the purest answer and he looked serious about that.

’’What’s wrong?’’ Kyrell asked with a frown on his face when he noticed Blake laughing at him, ’’Stop laughing. Lyra was the one who told me about people crying in happy moments’’

And that did it for Blake. He laughed so hard that he received weird glances from others standing beside him.

"Why are you so....." naive. Victor stopped talking his thoughts out loud. He just resignedly shook his head at Kyrell.

Then he leaned towards Blake and whispered, "This is why I don’t like him"

"I like him though" Blake retorted, "He is innocent, and most importantly, he doesn’t try to bug me like you when I’m spending my time with Lilly" It was true. Kyrell didn’t trouble Lyra like others and was content with spending minimal time with her and never disturbed her when she was with others.

But Victor who couldn’t keep his mouth closed retorted, "Well, he does that because he has not yet mated with her" a mischievous smirk tugged on his lips as he added, "I bet that he would not be able to get out of my sweet girl’s bed once that happens"

Blake clenched his jaw and glared at Victor but the latter just grinned at him, "Am I wrong? Isn’t it the same for you?"

"Shut up"

"What?" Victor shrugged his shoulders as though not comprehending Blake’s reaction.

"What are you guys talking about?" Kyrell who was silent till now chimed in when he didn’t get their conversation.

"It’s nothing you should know of" Victor answered before Blake. He was all right talking about their bedroom matter with Blake because, first of all, they had the same mate, and second, they were close enough to joke around. But Kyrell was an outsider to them and he didn’t wish to talk about private matters with him.

"All hail your majesty the king" a loud statement from the witch masters caught everyone’s attention and Kyrell too turned toward them and stopped himself from talking further.

Meanwhile, Xavier who was seated on his throne had a bored face as his tribesmen continued to shout some weird notions. He never believed that this day would arrive. All his life, he was treated as an outcast and his father wanted him to die but here he was.

Sitting on one of the most revered seats in the entire beast city. Xavier never wanted this but he had to admit that this was satisfying. He guessed that his father’s soul would be withering in dissatisfaction as Xavier took his seat. And this thought pleased him to no end.
