Chapter 186: Little snakes celebrating their first birthday[Bonus Chapter]
’’Done!’’
Lyra exclaimed with glee after completing the ’Happy birthday banner’ for her babies
As there was no paper in the beast world, she had to use a pristine white merfolk fabric as a banner. It was Victor who brought this fabric to her as a gift after supposedly traveling a long distance. Even now, he was glaring daggers at her for using his gift in this manner but all she had to do was give him a dazzling smile and he melted right then and there.
’’I can never win against that pretty smile of yours’’ he said while raising both his arms in defeat before walking towards her.
He curiously looked at his mate as she drew some weird words on the white fabric that he couldn’t decipher. Victor gazed in misery as his dear mate ruthlessly used charcoal on the white fabric that he gifted.
’’What is this sweet girl?’’
Lyra looked up at him with a smile on her face, ’’Today marks a year after the little snakes’ birth. I’m going to celebrate their birthday’’ She started to keep a count of days when she gave birth to the little snake eggs. In the beginning, when she came to the beast world, she was too scared and confused to do that but after her first delivery, she started to count the days and made a calendar like that of her old world. To be honest, she could say that her life here started to feel real only when her babies came into the world. They were half a part of her as much as they were of Blake’s and she still felt surreal remembering the fact that she is a mother now!
Not a young college girl who recklessly went on a trip with her friends and got lost but a responsible woman who had her own children to take care of. It would be a lie if she said that she doesn’t miss her old life. She indeed missed it. Her parents and friends back there are irreplaceable in her life but she didn’t want to go back. Her everything is here and she wouldn’t exchange a horde of treasure for the life she is living now.
Coming out of her thoughts, she resumed her work. No one would probably understand her writings but she didn’t mind. Lyra wanted to give the best birthday to her babies. In the morning, she asked Blake to take them out to training and decided to surprise them when they are back.
Blake didn’t understand what this whole birthday thing was about but seeing his mate so excited, he tactfully closed his mouth and took his little ones out. As they normally trained during the evening, the little snakes looked at their father in perplexity but still followed him.
Coming back, Lyra had a hard time making a cake. A birthday would remain incomplete without a cake but this was not her old world to bake a cake. There were no proper ingredients to make it and no oven to bake it. But most importantly, she didn’t think that her meat-consuming babies would like eating sweet things. So as an alternative, she decided to make a meat cake. The process was very hard because her babies were not good at eating overly cooked meat and couldn’t handle spice. Basically, the meat cake she was talking about is nothing but steak. She lightly roasted their favorite kind of meat and stacked it up to resemble a cake.
And for the candle, it was a little wooden stick smeared with animal fat. She just hoped that it would not go off before her babies blow them.
Later that evening, the little snakes returned with their father but halted when two small figures stood in front of them.
They confusedly looked up to only find their two brothers staring at them. The cubs were usually mischievous and always troubled them. So they didn’t think much into it and started to enter from the other side but stopped again as the cubs once more blocked their way.
’Sssss’ they hissed in displeasure but didn’t have the heart to pounce on them. No matter how naughty they were, the cubs are still their little brothers and they wanted to always protect them.
Meanwhile, the cubs glanced up at Blake and blinked in distress. They wanted to say that mom was not yet prepared but Blake failed to understand them and picked them up from the ground.
The cubs rebelled in his hold and Blake could only utter, "What’s wrong with you guys?"
He didn’t understand what they were trying to say and by now, the little snakes slipped out of that place and entered the house.
Lyra barely closed the door to Blake’s room after finishing the preparation before the little snakes arrived. She smiled at them and got down on the ground.
"How was your day babies?"
’Sssss’ It was good. Lyra just smiled sadly because she couldn’t understand them. She wanted them to grow up faster so that she could converse with them.
Snapping out of her thoughts, she got up and held the door knob before looking back at them.
"Come here, babies"
They curiously came near her as she opened the door and froze when they heard familiar voices saying unfamiliar words.
"Happy birthday!" All of their mom’s mates were inside the room wearing weird things on their heads and shouting the same words.
"I was the loudest!" they heard uncle Victor exclaim proudly and the next moment, uncle Lucas glared at him, "No, I was louder!"
"No, I was!" Victor snapped.
Whereas uncle Killian was wearing his normal sour face and looked bored as he looked at their mommy, "Is it done?"
"Not yet sweetheart. We still have to bring the cake"
And those words from their mom seemed to brighten uncle Killian’s mood but they didn’t know why.
Their new uncle, Kyrell just stood in silence as they did.
And as on cue to their mommy’s words, uncle Noah and uncle Demir entered the room while holding something.
"Stop fighting!" Noah said glaring at Victor and Lucas. They were very childish sometimes.
"Sunshine, I brought it!" Demir exclaimed with a big smile on his face which Lyra returned.
"You did well," She said while pecking his cheek and Demir felt his smile broaden.
Then she turned back at the little snakes, "Happy birthday babies... Today a year ago, mommy gave birth to eight beautiful eggs" she felt emotional as she continued, "And after waiting for days, your father returned with you guys"
She started to cry by now, "That day was the happiest day of my life. You know I was scared of snakes in the past" now she laughed remembering that day, "But from the moment I laid my eyes on you guys... All of my fear vanished into thin air"
On the other side, Blake entered the room while holding the cubs in his arms. His mate’s words made his heart warm. He strode towards her and stroked her back.
Lyra gave him a small smile before crouching down to the ground. Demir laid the meat cake in front of the little snakes.
Noah lighted the little wooden stick and kept it on the meat cake.
"Go one blow it," said Lyra encouraging them.
But the little snakes were lost. They didn’t fully understand what was going on but knew one thing. Their mommy was doing this for them and that made them happy. They felt so loved. Their mommy was the best mommy in the world.
Heeding her words, they blew the fire and heartily ate the meat. It was their favorite kind of meat.
