Chapter 286: Chapter 273: Give me this assessment (supplement)
Qiao Sang turned to look at Shi Gaofeng.
Shi Gaofeng had not expected to be proven wrong so quickly, and he quickly tried to salvage his dignity, saying, "There’s still one left who hasn’t passed; ninety-nine percent of those can’t qualify as professional Beast Tamers."
Qiao Sang didn’t voice an opinion, but from the brief bout she had seen, the examiner did not hold back as Shi Gaofeng had claimed.
That was indeed the case.
"Wu Ding, that guy, only tries a couple of moves, brushes people off if they haven’t reached proficiency in their skills, and gives way if they have, but you can’t just look at proficiency when assessing E-rank Beast Tamers," complained one of the seated examiners, a tanned woman with black hair tied in a low ponytail.
"You can’t really say that," spoke up another examiner, a man around 20 years old wearing a black baseball cap. "Skills are fundamental for Pet Beasts; it’s too difficult for E-rank Beast Tamers to combine different basic skills, so you can only look at each skill’s proficiency."
"The requirement for minor proficiency isn’t too high or too low for an E-rank Beast Tamer; as long as they meet the standard, you can tell the Beast Tamer has put effort into training their Pet Beast."
"You’re telling me you’re only going to look at proficiency when it’s your turn to examine?" the female examiner frowned.
"That’s impossible," the male examiner said, stroking his clean-shaven chin. "I mainly look at the rapport and cooperation between the Pet Beast and the Beast Tamer. With resources and time, anyone can achieve proficiency, but it’s the cooperation with the Pet Beast that shows whether a person has the potential to be a professional Beast Tamer."
The female examiner’s face relaxed, clearly preferring this assessment criterion.
"You could also lower your standards a bit," the male examiner suddenly said, turning to her. "Look at you, it’s been a whole morning and not a single person has passed under you."
"That’s not because my standards are too high; I want to pass more Beast Tamers too," the female examiner retorted. "But the ones I’ve examined simply don’t have the talent to be professional Beast Tamers."
...
"That one sitting on the left is nicknamed ’Don’t even think about passing’. Virtually no one passes when she’s the examiner," Shi Gaofeng whispered to Qiao Sang while they were waiting for the assessment. "I was examined by her last time."
At this point, he sighed sincerely, "As long as I don’t get her this time, I’m ninety percent confident I’ll pass!"
Qiao Sang gave him a glance and said slowly, "According to the ’Flaunting-Your-Confidence-Is-Courting-Disaster’ law, the chances she’ll examine you are quite high."
Shi Gaofeng: "..."
"The one on the right wearing a black hat is relatively normal; the pass rate under him is about fifty-five percent," Shi Gaofeng coughed lightly and continued. "With the three of them combined, at least half of us here should pass."
"You’ve really done your homework," Qiao Sang laughed.
In fact, she felt that knowing this was hardly useful; it would be better to investigate what kinds of Pet Beasts the examiners had, so she could choose her own Pet Beast to send out accordingly.
But even if she found out, it wouldn’t matter to her... Qiao Sang looked at Yaobao, who was excitedly focusing on the field.
Ever since she contracted with Yaobao, she had decided that no matter what Pet Beast the opponent sent out, the one she would use for the assessment would be Yaobao.
The assessment process was swift; almost every two to three minutes, someone would finish their assessment.
"Next, Shi Gaofeng."
The one assessing Shi Gaofeng was the male examiner wearing the black hat.
The assessment for E-rank Beast Tamers was the least demanding among professional Beast Tamer assessments; though each examiner had different criteria, there was still a fairly clear difference in skill between those who passed and those who did not.
As a member of Shengshui Middle School’s team, Shi Gaofeng naturally had undeniable strength among his peers, but age was not a restriction for the Beast Tamers taking part in the assessment.
And for the sake of fairness, the examiners would not lower their standards due to age.
Shi Gaofeng initially had some difficulty in the battle, but fortunately, his cooperation with Jelly Thornberry was good.
A move like Hypnosis Powder, with a wide area of effect, combined with Flying Leaf Quick Knife, which could turn and change direction, showed the examiner in the hat Shi Gaofeng’s potential, so he slightly held back and let him pass.
Shi Gaofeng waved excitedly at Qiao Sang, his eyes filled with pride.
"Finish the exam and get out quickly. Don’t disturb the others," the male examiner in the hat couldn’t help but say after seeing Shi Gaofeng wave his hand for almost twenty seconds.
"I’m leaving right now!" Shi Gaofeng responded quickly.
After he said that, he gave Qiao Sang a "I’ll wait for you" look and walked out with an excited heart.
"Next, Qiao Sang."
It was finally her turn... Qiao Sang exchanged a tacit glance with Yaobao and got up to enter the arena.
The moment Qiao Sang stepped onto the stage, she caught everyone’s attention.
It wasn’t too unusual for students in school uniforms to participate in the E-rank Beast Tamer exam, although they were few, there were always a couple. But a Flame Listening Dog tamer was a different story.
It should be noted that the Alliance had not yet released the evolution conditions for the Flame Listening Dog, and there was no news on the internet about a second Fire-Toothed Dog evolving into a Flame Listening Dog.
In other words, this school uniformed kid was the only Beast Tamer in the world to possess a Flame Listening Dog!
"The internet says the Flame Listening Dog also has Psychic Series abilities, but who knows if that’s true or not."
"That must be false. If it really had Fire Element and Psychic Series abilities, then a Fire-Toothed Dog would start at a million at the very least. Look at the market right now; although the price of Fire-Toothed Dogs has gone up, it’s still far from a million."
"She looks even younger than the last kid who took the exam. Can she pass?"
"Hard to say. The grade of a Professional Beast Tamer isn’t judged solely on attributes, and even though there’s only this one Flame Listening Dog, it doesn’t mean it’s strong..."
Many people murmured among themselves, with a hint of sourness in their tone.
While the waiting Beast Tamers discussed, the examiners also started to argue.
"I’ll go. You’ve been examining three people in a row; it’s better to take a rest," Wu Ding said.
"Heh, what’s so tiring about this? We agreed beforehand that we’d switch after five people each. This is only the fourth. If you really want to go, you can take the next one," the hatted male examiner said as he prepared to walk onto the field.
Sounds nice, but in truth you just want to battle the Flame Listening Dog!
Wu Ding grabbed him and bluntly said, "I won’t beat around the bush with you, let me take this exam."
The male examiner in the hat scoffed, "Why should I?"
"I’ll treat you to dinner after work. How about that new restaurant on Xinghe Street?" Wu Ding proposed with a smile.
The male examiner wasn’t moved, as any Beast Tamer would want to face off against rare Pet Beasts to get more in touch with them.
If it were a normal day, he’d give this face as a colleague, but now what was at stake was the only Flame Listening Dog in the entire Alliance.
Eating could be done anytime, but examining the Flame Listening Dog was a rare opportunity, and if missed now, who knows when the next chance would come.
Just as the male examiner was about to refuse, Wu Ding added, "If you let me take this one, I’ll introduce my sister to you!"
The male examiner in the baseball cap suddenly pondered as he looked at Wu Ding’s appearance.
Seems like, it might not be a bad deal...
"Damn it! When did Wen Lei get up there?!" Wu Ding suddenly exclaimed.
Male examiner: "!!!"
Turning his head, the examiner saw that Wen Lei, who had always been sitting at the examiner’s table, was already standing in the arena.
