Chapter 96: Outing VIII
Outing VIII
The moment Osho got close to the gently swaying construct, the hatch closest to him opened, and he waited for a moment before stepping inside to avoid messing up the timing.
’Hey, this seat isn’t half bad.’ He thought with some surprise. The seat was surprisingly comfortable. Were fighter jet seats comfortable? They had to be, right? Considering some pilots fly for days.
"Are you settled in?" Osho perked up as he heard John’s voice sound through a speaker at the top of his little pod.
"Yeah, the space is decent." Osho replied before releasing Gale from the Beast Space. The bird practically jumped out but immediately turned unhappy at the small space Osho just said was decent.
’Small!’ He complained, and Osho reacted by stroking his feathers.
’It’ll be worth it, I promise.’ He assured, and the bird slowly relaxed.
John seemed to see that he was ready, so he said after a breath.
"The moment you start feeling uncomfortable, I suggest you fortify your body with Mana, if you can do that anyway. Regardless, here goes." When he heard that, Osho felt the ride vibrate for a moment and he felt the seat suddenly pull him in a bit, not to an uncomfortable level, but he subconsciously knew that he wouldn’t be flying out unless something very powerful pulled him from the seat.
Then, the ride started to move.

All around the amusement park, people were doing their own thing.
Some went on thrilling rides, others sat down to eat, some were taking pictures, and some were just relaxing.
All in all, the atmosphere was quite cheerful, as one would expect from an amusement park.
However, there was a small change that caught the attention of almost everyone in the park.
The pendulum swayed.
"Is that thing acting up again?" Someone asked, their tone indifferent in a way that implied that such a thing wasn’t strange.
However, Ellie and the others who weren’t too far away from the person who said this immediately knew the cause.
"He actually went through with it, huh?" Irene mumbled, no longer looking as pale as before.
"I’m both surprised and not surprised." Ellie shrugged. She was long used to Osho doing things in the spur of the moment. Impulsivity was a key trait found in ADHD, but he’d probably deny that being the case.
The ride started to sway a bit more while slowly getting faster, and it’s at that point that people began noticing that something was amiss.
People paused and pointed as the usually dormant park ride moved in a way that was beyond its usual swaying, and that’s when some started to realize...
"Is someone riding that thing?!" Someone exclaimed and there were audible gasps.
One might think their reaction was exaggerated. No matter how bad a ride was, it couldn’t make people actually care if someone other than themselves went on it, right?
But here’s the thing. This ride was a thing that truly bred the mentality of ’I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy’.
Most of the people here had, at some point, tried the ride in their younger years. Young, dumb, and ambitious people who believed nothing in the world could stop them. What was a measly amusement park ride? After all, it exists in an AMUSEMENT park. It was simply a tool for their entertainment.
But they were wrong.
One way or the other, whatever pride they had, whatever belief they possessed, was shattered. The might of the omnidirectional pendulum wasn’t one they could easily resist. No, it was a natural disaster. You could only steer clear of its oath, not defeat it.
But it seemed some poor, poor soul hadn’t come to this realization yet. Someone still believed that braving the monstrous ride was possible.
"My prayers stand for whoever it is that decided to attempt that thing." Someone said and bowed their heads for a moment, and quite a few people followed suit. It was almost like an agreement was made beforehand.
Soon, the ride had picked up a bit of speed, and a bit soon turned into a lot, and a lot turned into a concerning amount.
One may ask, would would an omnidirectional pendulum even look like? How would that work?
Well, Osho was currently experiencing it firsthand.
On a normal Pendulum, the section where people sat spun horizontally while the main arm swung back and forth. That wasn’t the case here.
Where he sat didn’t just spin horizontally, it would also spin vertically, diagonally, and in virtually every direction. Moreover, his seating position wasn’t fixed as sometimes the chair would spin so that his back was to the ’window’ and he couldn’t see what was going on. Other times he would be sideways, sometimes upside-down.
Moreover. There was no delay between shifts. So one moment, he’d be moving sideways, and in the next, he’d be moving up and down.
And that was just for the seat alone. Then came the arm.
Remember that it was described as having joints like those of an insect leg. This wasn’t just for show as these three joints could swing independently.
As such, the pendulum, if you could even call it that at this point, was doing some real wonky shit.
The three joints moved sporadically in different directions with sharp, jerky movements that all seemed designed to inflict the most diabolical levels of whiplash.
Someone even said that it looked like it was glitching, and that was the best way to describe it as it didn’t follow rhyme or reason, it just moved sporadically like a child throwing a tantrum. It would have been a bit funny to watch if those watching didn’t know the incomprehensible horror the ride inflicted on those who dared ride it.
Everyone just watched for a few minutes. Some covered their mouths or shook their heads when the ride gave a particularly forceful lurch or jerk, as though they were watching a train crash in real time.
After a while, though, the ride eventually started to calm down and slow its erratic movements, the mana paths running through it cooling as the wild beast was slowly deactivated.
Ellie and the others started moving towards the ride at some point and conveniently reached it as it was starting to slow down. They reached the railings that stopped them from being too close and waited. Within the booth, John also watched with a bit of a solemn expression as the thing slowly came to a stop and continued with its deceitfully gentle swaying which would have deceived anyone had they not just seen what it was capable of a few moments earlier.
They all watched as, finally, the hatch Osho had gotten into opened, and he stepped out.
Everyone was expecting his feet to give out, maybe for him to stumble, fall on his knees and puke, or just some extreme reaction or the other, but what they got instead was...
"Hahahahahaha!" Osho threw his head back and cackled like a maniac while Gale flew around him with what could only be described as barely restrained excitement and glee.
"Osho... are you...?" Ellie asked tentatively as her boyfriend strode towards them with the biggest grin they’d ever seen on his face.
"That was awesome! I think I enjoyed that more than the Rollercoaster." He said and Gale finally settled on his head and made chirps of agreement.
"It was fun, right?" He asked the bird aloud..
"Ree!" He flapped his wings happily and Gale just chuckled
The others watched the interaction with unmasked shock as Osho seemed perfectly fine after going into that ride that looked no different from a walking death wish when it was active.
"Osho, buddy." Kurt suddenly said in a serious voice, drawing everyone’s attention.
"You wouldn’t happen to have some miraculous, ancient physique that grants you supernatural resistance to external forces, would you?" He said with such seriousness that it was hard to tell if he was joking or not. But Osho just laughed.
"I have strong tendons, but I hardly think that qualifies." He turned to John who was looking at him like he was some monster and smiled.
"I think I get it now. If that’s what it’s like to be in a 9th-generation fighter jet then that pilot must have been something else, being able to withstand such force constantly. But thanks for the info." He nodded to John who just nodded with a strange expression on his face
Osho jumped over the railing before saying.
"Well, the sun is starting to dip, so how about we go to the last location?" This seemed to snap everyone out of their stupor and they looked up.
Indeed, the sun had begun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky in a myriad of oranges, reds, and yellows. The Amusement park was also packed at this point, and the surrounding skyscrapers had begun lighting up, painting quite the picture.
"Yeah, we should probably get going." The group nodded and started making their way towards the entrance.
By the time they arrived, Mrs Jane was already waiting for them with folded arms, her stance relaxed, and off to the side, the shadow guard stood.
"Are y’all done?" She asked, and the group nodded, seeming satisfied by the events that transpired.
"Good. To the next spot, then."
What followed was the group going to another part of the Citadel, specifically, one of the bigger parks within the Citadel called Cheshire Park.
It had what everyone would expect from a park. Open fields, trees here and there, benches, and whatnot.
The most notable feature, though, was the floating box jellyfishes that emitted a warm orange light.
These jellyfishes were called Emitter Jellyfish and they were one of the few species of jellyfish that could survive out of water, though there was still a pond where they resided.
Apparently, they absorbed sunlight and the associated Mana while they were underwater to sustain themselves, and once they were sated, they would sink to the bottom of the pond to avoid taking any more sunlight. Once night came, they would emerge from the pond and give off the excess light energy within their bodies.
They were also very friendly, and the populace loved them as they could easily be tamed without hatching first.
Osho checked the time and saw that it was almost 7 pm. Meanwhile, Ellie and her guard had taken out a grill from the trunk of their car and set it up, with osho naturally being the one who would need to operate it.
Soon enough, meat and other ingredients were being grilled on the item that was more a portable kitchen than a simple grill. Rich people things, Osho theorized.
The others also sat down on a nearby bench and enjoyed some beverages that had been brought ahead of time, their beasts playing an extremely unfair game of tag as Sugil, Clyde, Inagi, and Blackie tried fruitlessly to catch the much-too-fast Gake who was straight up just styling on them.
"Well, I’d say today was a success." Ellie said as she took a sip from her drink, and Osho nodded
"Yup, I haven’t felt this relaxed in ages." He agreed as he effortlessly tossed and flipped the contents of the grill. Ellie watched with fascination for a moment before moving forward and kissing him on the cheek.
Osho gave her a funny look, and she laughed.
"What? Your face is just so kissable. I’m getting cuteness aggression vibes right now." Osho rolled his eyes.
"By that logic I should be–." Osho realized what he was about to say and promptly cut himself off. Ellie realized this and raised a brow, then even more so when she saw the faint embarrassment in his eyes.
"What were you gonna say?"
"Nothing."
"Come oooon. It couldn’t be that bad.
"I said nothing."
"Aw, is someone embarrassed?"
"You’re imagining things."
"Adorable."
"HEY! (≧口≦)ノ"
