Chapter 90: Outing II

Outing II

Needless to say, Osho’s food was greatly appreciated by everyone.

As soon as they finished eating and Osho was pretty much put on a pedestal due to his exquisite cooking skills, the group made their way to their first destination which was an Arcade!

Specifically, an Arcade that suited the needs of both Tamers and their Beasts.

"This place is huge!" Irene exclaimed as the group walked into the building and was immediately hit by a large number of colors as well as options.

Ellie just smiled.

"I’ll go get some tokens for us. In the meantime, y’all should start looking for games we can play." She gave Osho a wink before going to the counter.

’Lots of colors.’ Gale spoke through their bond, and Osho watched with amusement how the different colors reflected in Gale’s beady eyes that were filled with wonder.

"Hey, that looks interesting," Kurt said and brought everyone’s attention to what looked like a lot like...

’Dance Dance Revolution?’ Osho recognized the machine as they approached it. However, it looked quite a bit different compared to the one he remembered from Earth.

It was quite a bit bigger and seemed to offer space for both the Beast Tamer and their beast. Moreover, there were quite a few parts Osho didn’t recognize, and he could feel the Mana running through it, letting him know that there was some magic involved in whatever it could do.

"Oh, Dance Dance Revolution. I never did this before." Irene spoke as she rubbed her chin.

"How does it work?" Osho asked and was surprised at not being immediately butchered for not understanding the mechanics of something he assumed was pretty popular among people his age. Then again, how would he know? He barely left his apartment except to exercise.

"Well, when you get on it, it scans you and your beast, mostly your beast to figure out its type, and then creates holographic steps for the two of you to follow according to the type of beast you possess. So in your case, it would create a holographic rhythm for Gale to move through while in the air, and something on the ground for Blackie." Sam explained and Osho nodded thoughtfully. He couldn’t deny that it sounded interesting.

"I have returned with the tokens!" Ellie announced while carrying a large bag of tokens and everyone stared at her with strange expressions.

"Geez, how long do you intend for us to stay here?" Kurt said jokingly, but Ellie said without a change in expression.

"Until we have played every fun game this place has to offer."

Osho, Kurt, Irene, and Sam: (゜゜;)

"... Anyway, who wants to go first?" Kurt asked to break the awkward silence and Sam immediately piped up.

"Heh, while I’ve never done something like this with Inagi, I’d say I’m not half bad at dancing, and I trust he can follow my lead." She said confidently.

"Alright, who else?" After a beat of silence, Osho spoke.

"I can give it a go." Everyone other than Ellie looked at him with surprise.

"Can you dance?" Irene asked skeptically and Osho just shrugged.

"Kinda, yeah." Sam snorted.

"Well, whatever. Are we doing this or nah?" Osho rolled his eyes and stared at Ellie who giggled and went to the side of the machine before slotting in a few tokens.

As soon as she did, the large machine came to life and some pretty exaggerated music came on as it started flashing a lot.

’A photosensitive epileptic’s worst nightmare.’ Osho thought as he and Same stepped on their respective parts of the machine with their beasts.

As soon as they did, Osho felt a wave of Mana scan him and Gale, and watched as Mana converged around him to create arrows which he assumed were for Gale while the ones at his feet lit up.

’Alright, Gale. You see the screen?’ He gestured towards the screen that showed how the arrows would be moving.

’Mhm!’ The bird hummed eagerly.

Osho then explained how the game would work and how Gale would need to move into one of the arrows that had manifested as soon as the arrows on the screen touched the line.

Once he was sure he got it, he heard Sam say.

"Ready?" Osho cracked a smile and nodded before pressing the button to indicate he was ready.

As soon as he did along with Sam, he heard a beat start playing and his eyes couldn’t help but light up a little bit.

’I like this song.’ He thought as his hands slipped into his pockets.

Sam looked like she was ready for a fight while Osho looked like he was enjoying the process.

Soon, the arrows started moving, and right away Sam and Inagi had some problems as the beast failed to meet the arrows in time.

On the other hand, Osho and Gale followed the arrows and beat near perfectly, much to the surprise of everyone present except, well, Ellie.

’Heh, Osho has always been pretty good at dancing.’ She chuckled as she thought back to when they were younger.

One particular memory that stood out to her was in elementary school where they had a bit of a school dance and she had invited him to dance with her. He was extremely reluctant and she thought he was embarrassed because he didn’t know how to dance, only for him to completely shatter expectations and destroy everyone on the dance floor.

’He must be even better now since his control over his body should be much better than back then.’ She thought as she watched Osho and Gale continue to utterly decimate Sam and Inagi.

The latter two got better as Inagi who was probably confused in the beginning started to understand what he was meant to do, but in comparison, Osho and Gale just made it look so... easy.

Osho seemed to just be moving according to the beat with an effortless grace that made Ellie’s heart do weird things, and from what she could see the others were also enraptured by the performance.

"Geez, is there anything he can’t do?" Kurt said with what looked like begrudging admiration as Ellie chuckled inwardly.

’Read signals, that’s one thing.’ She thought as she watched Osho just enjoy himself for once.

Right now, there was a certain sparkle in his eyes, one that rarely appeared, and she rightly assumed they had that sparkle whenever he was genuinely enjoying himself or having fun.

It was something she rarely saw, and she was glad she was seeing it again, even more so as he was near the other three whom he didn’t know as well as Ellie, yet he didn’t seem inclined to be overly reserved as usual, which was nice.

In the end, Osho and Gale got a perfect score while Sam and Inagi did pretty average.

The bird chirped and went above Osho’s head before settling on it like a bird in its nest, and Osho didn’t seem to mind as he came off the machine looking satisfied while Sam looked slightly depressed.

She faced Osho and scowled.

"What are you not good at?" Osho regarded her before answering with a straight face.

"Flying." Sam’s eye twitched.

"Well... but no that’s a moot point because you’ll be able to fly in the future," Kurt grumbled.

"Well it’s not like it’ll just come to me naturally, I’ll still need to learn how to do it, and that also means you guys can learn how to dance, you just gotta learn it." Osho retorted and got stared at like he was an idiot.

"Anyway, I’m next. Who wants to go against me?" Ellie said and struck a pose and everyone stared at her weirdly.

"You suddenly seem fond of doing that." Irene pointed out.

"Hush, I rarely get the chance to be myself." She shot back.

"So you’re naturally weird, got it." Osho nodded which earned him a glare and made the others laugh.

"Anyway. I think I’ll go up first. Hold this for me Osho." Kurt said as he tossed his phone and Osho calmly caught it with his left hand. It seemed so inconsequential, yet Irene caught it and asked curiously.

"Oh, are you ambidextrous?" Osho spared her a glance.

"Yeah? Why?" As soon as he said that, he realized he had made a mistake.

Ellie who was all smiles immediately turned suspicious as she stared at him deeply.

".. I thought you were right-handed." Her words caused everyone to freeze and Osho forced a cough while averting his gaze.

"I WAS right-handed. But you know, after getting stronger and having better control over my body, I could use both limbs with ease." He explained, and it was a logical statement as it was common knowledge that the stronger you got, the better control over your body you had, so it was a pretty good excuse.

Yet Osho knew Ellie wouldn’t buy it.

"So those times that we sparred you were just holding yourself back, huh?" She asked with folded arms and the others seemed to take that as the cue to back off.

Osho was about to deny it again, but he looked into Ellie’s eyes and realized that this was far deeper than just him lying about being ambidextrous. She seemed almost... hurt.

He cringed inwardly. Why was he surprised? He knew she was trying her hardest to understand him and also make him comfortable enough to tell her his secrets, but that didn’t make it any better that he seemed to lie to her at every turn, and this incident seemed to prove that fact even more.

He closed his eyes and took a breath before opening them, his gaze calmer now.

"Yes, I am ambidextrous, and yes, I held back during our spars. I’m sorry for misleading you." He said sincerely and slightly bowed his head.

’Yeah because not wanting to repeat what you did last time isn’t really an excuse to lie to your girlfriend you jacka—’ His thoughts were cut off when he felt two hands on his face and lift it slightly, allowing him to see Ellie who had a look that said ’I’m annoyed but not that annoyed.’

"It’s fine, no need for dramatic apologies. As long as you see what you did wrong and rectify it then it’s all good." Osho’s eyes widened for a moment, then he smiled slightly.

"Thank you."

Off to the side, the other three watched those scenes with fascination.

"Damn, why can’t all girls be so understanding?" Kurt wondered aloud and immediately felt a shiver run down his spine as Sam and Irene glared at him.

"Uh, can we... get back to the game?"
