Chapter 80: Long Month Ahead

Long Month Ahead

Osho had some of the best sleep he’d ever had in quite a while.

Normally, if he slept, he’d wake up due to the slightest disruptions and find it difficult to go back to sleep because his thoughts wouldn’t shut up. But not only had he fallen asleep without any suspense, he had also slept through the night without waking up once, and by the time he woke up, he felt unbelievably refreshed.

It was unfortunate that Ellie left not long before he woke up, though. He assumed it was because of the arrangement he’d made with Lady Haggai, causing the girl to leave early so as not to come in the way of that. It was a thoughtful gesture, but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to cuddle with her a bit more...

He checked his phone and saw that he had a few messages, all of them from her.

[I had a fun time, but I left early, so I won’t distract you. That and I need to start training as well. Can’t have you getting too far ahead of me, now can I?]

[I’m also gonna train Sugil in her flying now. Hehe, imagine seeing a snake fly at you. That would be fun.]

[Anyway, take care. Oh, and if you even need to talk about ANYTHING, I’m all ears. Seriously, I’m always willing to lend an ear. So if anything is bothering you and you just need to rant, give me a call, I’ll listen.]

Osho read the last text and didn’t know when he started smiling. He deliberated for a moment before sending a reply.

[That’s good to hear. I might take you up on that at some point.] After a few seconds, Ellie responded with an emoji.

[O(≧∇≦)O]

He chuckled before putting away his phone.

He saw Gale sleeping soundly at the corner of the bed and rubbed his chin before smiling with a bit of mischief.

’Ellie said don’t need to give him a bath every day, she never said I shouldn’t give him a bath at all, and it’s been weeks since I last showered him so...’ As though sensing his nefarious thoughts, which he most definitely did, Gale’s eyes snapped open, and they locked onto Osho with a look of suspicion.

"Morning little guy." He said as he inched closer.

"Come a bit closer. I just wanna... check something." Osho said in a tone that certainly wasn’t helping his case in the bird’s eyes.

Gale flapped his wings and let out a low screech as he got up and backed away while Osho inched closer.

"Where’re you going? I’m not gonna hurt you or anything? I just wanna... make sure you’re clean." Osho continued, and Gale looked alarmed as he tried to find a way to escape, but he was already cornered.

He tried to screech in protest, but Osuo had already snatched him up by the legs so that he was hanging upside down, constantly flapping his wings and screeching in protest, but Osho just snickered as he carried him to the bathroom.

Now, did Gale actually need a shower? No, not really. After his last evolution, his feathers had become dust and dirt resistant, and it was quite difficult to sully them. Moreover, the bird never smelled anymore as he constantly had that faint smell of the sky whenever Osho held him.

So was giving him a bath necessary? No. Did Osho do it just for the fun of it? Absolutely.

A few minutes later, Osho came out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist and a Gale who looked like he’d been to hell and back, which Osho found funny because he didn’t even look like how one would expect a bird to look after being plunged in water. Besides a few drops of water that hung on his feathers, the bird was fine.

As it turns out, his feathers were also hydrophobic, kind of like a duck, but Gale wasn’t a duck but a four-winged falcon. Anyway it made sense, after all, if his affinity was the sky Affinity and he thrived flying in the, well, sky, chances are that he was gonna fly in the rain at some point or the other, and his feathers losing their integrity due to water would just be dumb in that case.

Osho wholly ignored the bird glaring at him as he got dressed before checking the time. He still had thirty minutes.

While he wasn’t a huge fan of Lady Haggai’s attitude, he did look forward to training with her. He enjoyed being taught by Mrs Jane, but sadly, her role as a teacher stopped her from giving him much one one-on-one training.

However, if Lady Haggai intended to do just that, then he could set aside his pride a bit and let her do what she wanted.

Once he was dressed, Gale hopped on his shoulder, and the two of them made their exit.

The military base was quite extensive, with numerous facilities that centered around various things. More than that, there were numerous training grounds around the entire base, but Osho assumed the one she was referring to was the same one he’d used when he and Gale were training to confront the Harbinger.

Apparently, it was the training grounds reserved for the more elite soldiers in the base, which made sense as its facilities were quite advanced as far as Osho could tell.

Eventually, he arrived at the place. Contrary to its name, the place was inside a large building and not just an open field, an arrangement that suited Osho just fine.

There were some guards at the entrance, but they recognized Osho almost immediately and wasted no time letting him through. He’d never get used to that.

When he was inside, he was surprised to see that the place was quite empty. Even when he’d used it in the past, there would be more than a few soldiers training off to the sides. But now, the place was completely bare save for the equipment and two other people.

Osho recognized Simon and Lady Haggai, both of them waiting for him in the centermost part of the grounds with what looked like a bunch of gadgets at their feet. Once he got closer to them, Lady Haggai spoke.

"You’re not early enough." Osho paused and gave her a blank stare

"You said to come by 6."

"You could have come earlier." He stared at her for a few more seconds before pointedly ignoring her comment.

"First of all, good morning, secondly, what happens now?" Haggai didn’t seem to like him ignoring her statement, but before she could say anything else, Simon beat her to the punch and replied.

"We have a general understanding of Gale’s abilities based on his performance during the beast tide. So now our goal is to improve himself as much as possible." Simon explained, and Osho tilted his head.

"So pretty much what we did for the Harbinger, but more intense?" He ventured.

"Correct. Before, we believed Gale’s abilities to be limited. And while that may still be the case, said limit is for higher than we originally believed. As such, we can make use of a far more intense training method to draw out his potential as much as possible. Not to mention, you have a bit under a month now and not just a few days, so if we can use this time wisely, you and Gale should experience a qualitative boost in your overall capabilities." Haggai answered, and Osho nodded. It made sense.

One might wonder, why was everyone surprised at Gale’s full speed in the Harbinger fight? Because that would imply that Gale never flew at his maximum speed during the training.

The reason was simple. What they had recorded was Gale’s base maximum speed without any enhancements or boosts. The bird had never made use of his bloodline, magic, or even Mana enhancement at that time.

Meanwhile, when he faced the Harbinger, he hadn’t held back anything, especially using his bloodline to have that passive sky zone around him, which boosted his capabilities further.

In short, there was an insane difference between Gale flying at his maximum base speed and his maximum speed in general. The others seemed to understand this now, so they had come up with a way to improve it.

"Bring him here." Lady Haggai instructed, and Osho held out his hands, allowing Gale to hop into them before he stepped closer.

The woman held up several meal pieces, which had several circuits running through them and more than a few small magic circles.

"Have him spread his wings." She instructed again, and Osho obeyed. The bird followed suit and spread his wings, and she started fitting these metal pieces on Gale’s body.

It reminded him of the training weights he used for the bird before. However, those had pretty much become redundant after Gale reached the Apprentice rank. In comparison, these should hopefully—

The last piece slid into place, and everything came to life. As soon as it did, Osho felt his arms almost drop to the floor as it felt like someone had shoved a mountain into his grasp.

He grunted as he tried to lift up Gale but failed miserably. At the same time, he felt Gale’s discomfort through their bond loud and clear. Clearly, the weight bearing down on him was nothing short of immense.

"Since speed is his strong suit, we will focus on that. As long as Gale is wearing those, his weight will constantly be multiplied by ten. Until the day of the entrance examination, he is not allowed to take them off." Haggai explained as Osho finally relented and put Gale down.

As soon as he did, Simon walked forward and handed him what looked like a jumpsuit.

"Put it on." He said a, d Osho took it with a sigh. He should have expected nothing less.

He put the clothes on, and before he could ask what the point of them was, he felt it.

All of a sudden, his five senses i, cluding his Mana sense, became severely inhibited. Moreover, he felt his bond with Gale weaken somewhat, like something was dampening it.

"That’s a suppression suit. We usually use it for prisoners. However, we modified it to suit your needs, so don’t worry, the suppression isn’t permanent, and you can still improve. However, it is significantly harder to do so. And just like with Gale, you won’t be taking it off until the exam." Osho grimaced. If he had to describe how he felt right now, it was like how he felt when he was still a normal human with hardly any Mana to his name.

"We have a list of exercises and drills you’re gonna follow these following days, as well as a diet plan and several other things. In short, it’s going to be a lot, so prepare your mind." Osho sighed as he nodded. This was going to be a long month.
