Chapter 43: Second Exercise III
Second Exercise III
The Coyote which got hit in the side managed to scramble away just before the wind blades struck it. The one that was hit in the shoulder, though, wasn’t so lucky, as its mobility had already been impaired from that hit.
As a result, the wind blades cut into it mercilessly and quickly finished it off.
’That’s one down.’ Osho thought vaguely as he turned his attention to the remaining Coyotes which were already starting to move.
The leader growled and they rushed forward, aiming to go around Ellie and Sugil, but Osho commanded Gale to create two powerful gusts of wind which slowed them down. But more importantly, it controlled them and prevented them from spreading out too much.
This gave Sugil the chance to shoot out numerous crystal spikes that forced the Coyotes to retreat and defend themselves.
At the same time, Blackie who had been lurking in a shadow suddenly surged forward. She didn’t reveal herself, but the effects of her attack were still apparent.
The Coyote which still had a crystal spike sticking out of its side was trying to avoid getting impaled even more. However, the tendon on its back leg was suddenly slashed, causing it to buck and fall. The result was it getting impaled by more spikes which it couldn’t evade.
It cried out, but Inagi which had been stalking forward with a lot less stealth than Blackie surged and clamped its jaws into the creatures neck.
It’s struggled fiercely, but very soon, the smell of rotting meat started to waft out as the neck of the Coyote started to decay at a visible rate.
Its companions tried to help it, but with Gale and Sugil constantly controlling the battlefield, they could only watch helplessly as the Necrosis spread to its brain, killing it.
HOWL!
As soon as it died, the leading Coyote howled in anguish and rage. Suddenly, it’s piercing green eyes flared brightly, and the same happened to its remaining companions as it activated some sort of skill.
Suddenly, the speed and strength of the three creatures received a significant boost, and suddenly, Sugil was missing her targets a lot more frequently while Gale’s wind wasn’t pushing them back as often.
Osho narrowed his eyes as the Coyotes suddenly got a lot closer than before. But before they could do anything, a loud ringing sound sounded near the creatures causing them to pause and whimper as they shook their heads, the sound disorienting them for a moment.
Osho saw Kurt in the corner of his eye, Clyde was at his feet and his ears were pinned back, teeth bared threateningly.
’Nice.’ He thought before sending Gale a command.
The bird understood immediately and flapped its wings. It turned into a blur as it appeared in front of one of the Coyotes, startling it.
Before it could do anything, he flapped his wings again and a powerful blast of wind sent the Coyote flying.
Before it hit the ground, a crystal spike appeared from the ground behind it. Without guessing much, the canine was impaled on the spike, blood spraying everywhere.
However, it didn’t die immediately and struggled to get off. But Gale didn’t let it and sent out a wind blade which promptly decapitated it.
That brief moment, though, allowed the other two Coyotes to get closer and charge towards Ellie and Sugil.
However, Sugil created a crystal wall just before they reached them, causing the two to smash into it.
They were dazed for a second, one Ellie and her snake took advantage of.
Spikes emerged from the wall, and the leading Coyote managed to jump back in time to avoid getting skewered. Its companion wasn’t so lucky.
The spikes impaled it in multiple areas, and it let out a mournful howl as it tried to extricate itself from the crystals. However, something dark flashed past its neck, and blood sprayed as its throat was slit.
The leader watched silently as its last companion bled out and died, its body rigid.
Osho saw this and frowned.
"Get ready everyone. It’s gonna go berserk." He warned, and true to his words, the Coyote howled to the sky.
Suddenly, green veins started to emerge across its body, and its body started to swell. If before it was just tall enough to reach Osho’s chest, it completely dwarfed him now.
It growled, the sound causing everyone’s bones to rattle as the enraged creature stared them down.
On the tree, Mrs Jane watched with interest.
’They’ve done well so far. But let’s see how they handle a monster that has been pushed to a corner and now no longer cares for its own self-preservation.’ She thought as the Coyote surged forward at Ellie’s wall.
To everyone’s shock, it completely shattered the barrier, sending crystal Shards flying everywhere. Not just that, but the spikes that covered it failed to pierce its hide.
Ellie’s eyes widened and she jumped out of the way with Sugil in her grasp, barely avoiding getting her upper body bitten off as the Coyote snapped its jaw shut.
It turned to face her again, but a powerful funnel of wind smashed into the top of its head, blasting the creature into the ground and throwing dirt and rock everywhere.
Without giving it a chance to recover, Blackie jumped on its head and slashed its eyes, blinding it.
It yelped in agony and rage, shaking its head which sent the cat flying, but she landed on her feet and melded into a shadow once more.
Ellie created distance once more and had Sugil send numerous spikes at it, but the damage they did was negligible. Moreover, it gave the Coyote an idea on her position, which made it rush towards her.
Osho didn’t let it, though, and Gale who had been gathering speed flew like a bullet and crashed into the Coyote’s side.
Unlike most times, the bird didn’t pierce a hole through it, however, the sheer kinetic energy within the strike sent the beast flying which so much force that it crashed through multiple trees and toppled them.
The Coyote got up shakily and vomited litres of blood. But the students weren’t ready to let it recover.
Everyone gave Kurt a wide berth as he gave Clyde a command, and the fix unleashed a sound wave so powerful they could visibly see the waves that made it up.
Despite moving out of the way, everyone had to shut their ears from the sheer volume of the sound.
If that was them, then one could only imagine how it was for the Coyote which not only was the target, but had better hearing than most creatures.
Its eardrums ruptured instantly, and were its eyes still intact, they’d have rolled back as blood leaked from all its orifices.
The Coyote passed out while standing, and Gale used a powerful blast of wind to shoot Inagi towards the creature.
It quickly appeared under it where Blackie was already waiting. The cat leapt upwards just ahead of the Lizard, her sharp claws managing to cut through its thick hide. Not very deep, but enough for Inagi to use his claws on the opening and spread its poison, the Necrosis taking effect immediately.
The pain from the attack and poison woke the Coyote from its daze, but it was still too disoriented to attack properly, which allowed the cat and Lizard a chance to retreat.
"Ellie!" Osho shouted and the girl grunted. Sugil flicked her tongue, and a massive crystal spike emerged from the ground.
It pierced into the part of the Coyote which Blackie and Inagi had weakened and went deep. However, it didn’t pierce all the way through and instead carried the beast upwards into the air, blackened blood spraying from where it got impaled.
The Coyote growled and struggled, its energy still high despite the wounds.
However, Gale was already above it. The bird flew down with incredible speed. Even with the weights, it broke the sound barrier as it removed the wind resistance in front of it and took advantage of gravity. He also increased his speed by using the wind around him to propel himself downwards.
He didn’t stop there, though, as wind swirled around his beak until it became something akin to an air drill, and Gale’s body started spinning rapidly as he descended, creating a rotating funnel of wind around his body.
Everyone watched in amazement as Gale’s attack landed on the head of the Coyote. The spinning effect he generated allowing his beak to effortlessly pierce through. Not just that, but the sharp spinning wind utterly shredded the upper body of the Coyote causing blood to explode out.
Most would assume Gale would smash into the floor at an uncomfortable speed due to him retaining most of his momentum. But just before hitting the ground, he flapped his wings and created a powerful counter force that sent dust everywhere.
Everyone shielded their faces, and when the dust cleared, Gale was revealed, wind suspended him in the air, and blood rained around him from what remained of the corpse of the Coyote.
