Vol 4 Chapter 98: The Cave Heaven’s Loophole
“Why the h*ll are all these guys so strong!?”
As Bai Yuran used her Heavenly Secrets Technique to extract intel on the enemy, Du Zao and the Third Prince’s expressions both shifted slightly.
None of the five from the Tianming Realm were weak!
“This is bad.”
Du Zao’s face darkened. Among the remaining four enemies, he didn’t feel confident beating any of them.
A guy who could temporarily reach mid Divine Transformation… there was no way he could win.
If it were just a Nascent Soul cultivator who’d forcibly reached early Divine Transformation by burning potential, he might manage. But someone at peak condition, an elite at that stage? Absolutely no chance.
If he had that kind of ability, the Tongtian Tower would’ve already bet their future on him.
In terms of fighting power, whether it was his physique, techniques, or spells, everything leaned toward alchemy.Another one of them had a Void Physique that nullified mana-based attacks, meaning only physical attacks could hurt them. Du Zao’s strongest weapon was his exotic flame—completely useless. No way he could win in close combat either; he wasn’t a martial cultivator from Martial Emperor City.
And even if someone from Martial Emperor City fought the guy, they might not win. After all, the Void Physique user also mastered space techniques, which were a nightmare for body cultivators. That guy was basically invincible.
As for the transformed rare beast—that was just absurd. One little scratch from it could cause wounds that couldn’t be healed and would rapidly worsen. That meant even a minor slip in combat could escalate into a fatal injury. Unless someone could absolutely crush it in strength, how could anyone escape unscathed?
And then there was that monster known as the top Nascent Soul cultivator of the Tianming Immortal Palace. Dual spell spirits, dual innate physiques. That guy was practically their number one. No doubt stronger than all the rest. Du Zao suddenly felt an enormous amount of pressure.
He wasn’t the only one. The Third Prince’s expression grew solemn too. He’d thought that, having cultivated the True Dragon Secret Art, he’d at least be able to hold the two-point ground. But now, he was hesitating.
My strongest technique forms a fortune dragon using my own destiny. If I were in the Tianyuan Realm, that dragon would benefit from our nation’s fate. As long as I don’t face that dual solar-lunar guy, I could fight. But in this cave heaven… The Third Prince gritted his teeth.
Now, only Cold Moon Sword Immortal and Lin Jing remained calm after hearing the intel.
“Pfft…”
Bai Yuran had wanted to dig for more info, but the backlash from Nine Arts of Immortal Melody, combined with the cost of using her Heavenly Secrets Technique, pushed her past her limit. She coughed up a mouthful of essence blood and was immediately teleported out of the arena, falling unconscious.
At the same time, two translucent sigils formed by mysterious energy manifested on the Tianming side—indicating they had won the first round and earned two points.
“You dmn btch!!”
Now fully conscious, Yue E’s expression was twisted with fury as she glared at Bai Yuran. The friendly smile from before was long gone.
Even though she won, exposing her team’s intel had been a huge mistake. If Tianming lost the overall match because of her, she didn’t even want to imagine what kind of punishment she’d face from the Immortal Palace.
“Heh…”
On the Tianyuan side, Alchemist Du Zao had just fed Bai Yuran a recovery pill. She soon woke up and grinned mockingly at the Tianming girl.
“So, who’s next?” Bai Yuran now assumed the role of strategist and asked casually.
Cold Moon Sword Immortal glanced toward Du Zao and the Eighth Prince.
Obviously, she was planning to guard the three-point ground, and Lin Jing the four-point one. As long as the two of them secured those seven points, even if the other three lost, Tianyuan would still win.
“Looking at those two, they clearly aren’t confident,” Lin Jing commented.
“The intel she got ended up shaking our own side more than the enemy,” he added, glancing at Bai Yuran.
She rolled her eyes. “Their cultivators are strong, sure. The Tianming Immortal Palace has had stable inheritance with no major wars. Of course they’d be ahead.”
“In the Tianyuan Realm, wars between the Immortal Palace and Immortal Alliance caused the loss of tons of legacy techniques. Plus, the Immortal Palace modified world laws to restrict various races and cultivation paths to punish native cultivators.”
“And the Immortal Alliance? Didn’t even last long before the Ancient Kingdom overthrew it. Two wars back-to-back severely damaged the foundation of the Tianyuan Realm. Sure, there were plenty of top-tier experts born through blood and fire, but in terms of inheritance… we’re clearly behind the Tianming Realm.”
“Well then, should I go next?” Lin Jing asked. “In case both of you lose, and Feng Ning loses too, we’d be in real trouble.”
Feng Ning (Cold Moon Sword Immortal) looked at him.
“You think I’ll lose?” she said, clearly displeased. Lin Jing knew better than anyone how strong she was among same-realm geniuses.
He’d seen the opportunities she’d gained with his own eyes.
“I’m just saying, what if.” Lin Jing shrugged. “Don’t you guys remember? Cave heavens have loopholes. For example, when a cave heaven descends, if cultivators of the same realm are nearby and timing works out, they can enter as well.”
“In other words, while each side can only field five in battle, the number of available participants isn’t necessarily limited to five! If someone accidentally followed us in, then technically, we have six people to choose from.”
“…You mean—” Bai Yuran’s eyes lit up.
“You want to do the same thing you did with the Golden Ranking. Let your contracted beast act independently and replace Du Zao or the Third Prince in battle? Wait—can that even work!?”
“Uh…” Du Zao blinked.
We can do that?
So now he might not even have to fight, and instead rely on one of the Demon Court Holy Son’s spirit beasts to fight in his place?
Granted, Lin Jing’s spirit beasts were insanely strong.
But still, wouldn’t that make him look useless? Just riding the win with no effort?
“It’s just a guess. I don’t know if it’ll work. But the cave heaven should have a will of its own, right? Like a preset program on a mechanized beast. Let’s ask and see.”
Lin Jing raised a hand and summoned the Pine Leaf Mouse. It scampered up his arm and perched on his shoulder.
A moment later, Lin Jing smiled. The cave heaven had responded.
【Spirit beasts may enter battle independently of their Beast Tamer master. However, once their master enters a match, that particular spirit beast can no longer be summoned and may only fight once.】
