Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 90: Ancient creature
Chapter 90: Ancient creature
VALENCIA’S POV
I didn’t stop running. Transforming from my cat back into my human form, I ran as fast as I could towards the direction of my house, not wanting to be caught.
They would’ve found out about my disappearance by now, and I didn’t really have anybody to rely on to keep me safe.
However, I at least had some weapons and guns to kill the rogues back at home.
If I were dying, I wouldn’t be dying without making any difference, just like I have always wanted it to be.
I would die a warrior, not a captive.
As I kept running, I nearly froze in my place, stumbling on my own foot when I saw a large shadow moving right from above me.
And no, it wasn’t a normal wolf or any forest animal.
It was a bird.
My head instinctively turned to the sky to see what it was.
Was it just my imagination, or was that bird’s shadow really three times bigger than me? No matter what the angle of the bird’s flight was, there was no way it was supposed to have a shadow as big as this.
’Valencia, don’t stop. Keep running,’ Aurora said, and I started running again, unsure what I was running from anymore.
The mystery in her voice as if she was barely controlling her emotions confused me, but I wasn’t a fool to stop and ask her what the matter was.
Without thinking twice, I increased my pace even though my head was starting to get dizzy and my lungs were starting to scream at me to stop, my limbs burning with pain, I kept running, running from this unknown emotion that Aurora was feeling.
For me, it was the fear of being caught.
Thud.
My heart nearly leaped out of my mouth when I saw the shadow again, and this time, the shadow didn’t disappear.
It stopped.
It stopped right in front of me, the large size of the dark figure being no joke.
I was forced to stop this time as I gulped, my heart trembling at the sight.
Whatever it was, it was right on top of me, but I didn’t dare to look up.
What the hell was going on with me? I was being compelled, or that was what my body was telling me as I stood there, unable to move anymore.
’Aurora,’ I whispered, hoping she would help me in any way.
’Rather than running towards the lake house, run towards the mountains,’ Aurora hinted, and I didn’t know if running away from the home was the best option when I had the risk of the rogues coming for me too.
However, right now getting rid of this humongous beast like a bird or whatever it was, was my priority.
Without asking her anything else, I ran straight towards the hill, wishing I had some roller skates or something else this time.
By the time I reached the first cliff of the big hill, I was breathless, my limbs giving out already and I fell to the ground, coughing loudly.
Taking deep breaths to calm my aching heart that was pumping oxygen through my body at the pace of a bullet train, I closed my eyes, accepting my fate when that creature appeared in front of me again.
Rather than flying in the sky, it was sitting right in front of me, and to say I was shocked would be an understatement.
It was huge. What I thought about its size earlier was a joke in front of how tall it was.
It was almost as tall as a one-story house, or probably taller than that as it sat in front of me, its black eyes shining in the moonlight looking directly at me as if I was its next meal.
There was no way a bird like that was present in the modern world and has been staying hidden for so long.
Was it just my imagination? Or probably a mythic creature?
Remembering that weird lady that had appeared last time, I placed my trembling hand on my chest to calm my heart, looking right into that monster bird’s eyes.
"W-what do you want?" I asked, mentally smacking myself for asking such a question from a bird.
As if it would understand me.
I looked around helplessly and was about to stand again to run again when to my surprise, the bird lifted its hand and pointed its feathers towards me.
It was almost as if it was saying it wanted me and I didn’t know whether to cry or laugh at the situation.
Helpless and amused at my own situation, I looked towards the sky.
"I know, moon goddess, I always complain about how no guy told me that I was his priority and that they loved me more than they could love themselves, but I didn’t mean you had to send me some humongous male bird to tell me that.
I was desperate for love, but I don’t think I can handle this kind of love," I said to the moon goddess, who probably was laughing at my situation right now, just like Aurora who was wheezing at my helplessness.
I gulped.
No one was here to help me. I got to help myself.
With a shaky breath, I patted my hand around to find anything that I could use to save me.
And it wasn’t long before I found it.
A stone. But then I looked at the stone’s size and then the bird’s size and didn’t know if I wanted to risk angering this bird with this stone that was probably nothing more than a pebble for it.
As I was contemplating my life, I felt a swoosh of wind and before I could even scream, the bird swept me away.
"Aha!" I shouted at the top of my lungs as it went straight to the sky, making me hold onto its skin under its neck for dear life.
I have thought about a hundred ways of what my death would be like, but I swear being thrown on the ground by a large bird was none of that.
’Aurora! You said running to the hill was a good option,’ I shouted at my wolf, wanting to deviate from my thoughts, and that useless fake wolf chuckled at me.
She dared to laugh at me in this situation when I was peeing my dress.
I looked down at the little droplets flowing down my legs, closing my eyes in utter shame and humiliation. I was really peeing myself.
’I told you to go towards the hill so that the bird could find you alone and be less agitated -’ Aurora started but paired with fear and utter humiliation from what was happening, I couldn’t hear any of her jokes anymore.
’You moron! Why do you keep making my life so hard? Is this something you really joke about? If we fell from here, regardless of being a cat, we won’t be saved!’ I shouted at her, my heart nearly leaping out of my mouth when the bird tossed me in the air and I started to fall.
I closed my eyes, thinking about all the things I couldn’t do and try in my lifetime.
’Maybe if I had waited to hear his explanation, nothing like this would’ve happened in the first place,’ A random thought crossed my head, and I realized what kind of influence he had on me.
Even in my last moments, I was thinking about him. I closed my eyes, ready to perish when I fell on something soft, forcing me to open my eyes as I knew I was still in the air.
I looked at the giant bird on top of which I was lying now as it went straight for the sky.
’What is going on?’ I asked no one in particular.
’Well, don’t you love riding horses and want to feel how cool those heroines in the movies look? Treat this bird as your personal animal and hold its feathers. I summoned an ancient bird just for you,’ Aurora said.
I knew she was bluffing.
There was no way she was capable of doing that, and if that was possible, why would she do that at a time like this when we were running away from rogues? This wasn’t the first time we were doing it either.
However, I did as she told me, clenching my fists around the skin of the bird, finally looking around myself for the first time since we entered the sky.
I looked at the vast sky as the bird flew higher in the sky, among the clouds, and I took a deep breath, the cold winds caressing my skin filling my heart with happiness, and all my worries about everything else leaving my mind.
I looked at the glaring and shining moon and couldn’t help but feel like the moon goddess was smiling along with me.
I patted the bird’s fur, gratitude filling my heart.
There were so many things that I needed to do and so much left to feel but at this moment I felt like enjoying the moment was the most important thing, and I closed my eyes for a second, relishing in feeling before opening them again, placing my head on the bird’s head.
Argentavis. I remembered the name of the bird that had gone extinct a long time ago and couldn’t help but feel I was living some kind of dream.
