Chapter 88: Rogues took her away.

ALPHA MAVERICK’S POV

I fucked up.

Nothing was supposed to go like this. My secrets weren’t supposed to be revealed like this.

It was true I had the perfect countering strategy to any of her accusations, but it was still a bit too rushed, and I fucked up pretty badly.

The confusion in her eyes should’ve been a clear signal for me to stop then and there, hold her hand, bring her out of the damned party, and make her understand everything.

That expression of wariness and disbelief should’ve warned me enough that I wasn’t dealing with just some random girl, I was dealing with the girl who was probably betrayed by her mate because that was exactly what her sister said over the call, and I indirectly gave her the reason to hate men once again.

I showed her how she was good when she had her boundaries up and trusting me was an issue from the beginning.

’Well, this is one time I won’t disagree with you. That was definitely not the best time to let your thoughts consume you and kiss her. Even though I am an animal, I understand the severity of this matter. How could you not? The hatred in her eyes when she pushed us away and ran out...’ Reaper trailed off.

I don’t even know what to think of it anymore. I knew he was being a bit too lenient with his words with me when he was seething equally.

"Alpha Maverick, if Valencia has done something wrong, please forgive her. Let me handle it. I will talk to her and she will apologize to you first thing in the morning. Please be forgiving," Carl walked behind me as I rushed to the car.

He was annoying and getting on my nerves, but thinking about how he probably saved the girl with his care for all the time she must’ve gotten into the problem, I didn’t want to snap at him.

"It’s not her. I made a mistake, Carl," I couldn’t help but tell him.

He looked at me with a face full of questions, and I didn’t have the time to sit around and explain to him what I did wrong.

That’s why I walked, increasing my pace.

Fucking human territory. I couldn’t even use my werewolf speed.

As I was about to sit inside the car, I saw Carl still following me.

I rolled my eyes and was about to ask him to leave me alone when I remembered he probably knew more about her hideouts where she could be.

From the kind of girl she was, I was sure she wouldn’t be going back to her lake house because she knows I know about that house.

I quickly started the car and went straight to the lake house just in case, hoping she would prove me wrong.

However, just like I guessed, she wasn’t there.

"Where else can she go?" I looked at Carl, who told me about her friend’s apartment where she used to live earlier.

As we reached there, we saw a girl getting out of the car, and it happened to be Valencia’s friend.

Carl went down and talked to the girl who told him she knew nothing about where Valencia could be and she was returning only now.

I felt my heart thumping against my chest at the thought of her leaving me. No. She can’t leave me just like that. It doesn’t make any sense at all.

She wasn’t the kind of person who wouldn’t let me explain at least, right?

’What if something happened to -’ Reaper started with a wary expression, and I immediately growled at him inwardly.

’No! Nothing will happen to her. She is the bravest girl I have ever seen. She is probably just hiding somewhere,’ I told him, and he gulped, pacing around anxiously.

"It’s all my fault," Carl said as soon as he got inside the car.

"What do you mean?" I looked at him.

"I said some mean things to her. I was angry that she would let that human hurt her, and that’s why I asked her why didn’t she react and distance herself, that if she wasn’t done getting bullied and being hurt by her family and pack members she had to let a pesky human hurt her," Carl covered his face as he groaned.

I looked at him, stopping the car with a jerk as the car slid on the road, drifting to the side.

I couldn’t care less.

"What did you say?" I asked him as Reaper growled inside me.

I could feel my veins protruding as he tried to take over me.

Carl looked at me with wide eyes, my eyes probably glowing in the dark, and he gulped.

"I asked what did you say just now?!" I snarled at the man. He nearly jerked in his place.

"I... I didn’t know what I was saying either and -"

I clenched my fists on the steering wheel, my knuckles turning white.

"Get out," I seethed through my teeth.

"Alpha Maverick -"

"Get out of my car respectfully, Carl, before I shred you into pieces. She was already hurt. How dare you hurt her more?!" I asked.

Carl looked at me for a few seconds before getting out of the car.

I was about to start the car and leave to look for Valencia when Carl said something that froze me in my place.

"Wait.... Is that Blood?" Carl whispered under his breath, his words barely a whisper.

I saw him running some distance from the rearview mirror and quickly took off my seatbelt to rush in the direction Carl ran off too.

As soon as I got out of the car, I could smell the strong scent of blood too and my heart pounded against my chest with dread.

Let it be some animal’s blood. Let it be someone else’s blood. Reaper chanted in my head, and I felt even more anxious than before.

I walked to the area where Carl was crouching on the ground, and even though my heart didn’t want to believe it, my mind knew the answer already.

It was Valencia’s blood.

"It’s hers," the words left my mouth before I could think of anything else and I looked around helplessly.

It was my Valencia’s blood.

All those rogue attacks on her, that night when she returned smelling like blood, all the time she was found in suspicious spots, the photo of her in that rogue’s pocket, that rogue who was found near her residence, all the things started revolving in my head as I looked around and my gaze finally fell on what looked like an iron rod at some distance.

I walked to the rod and lifted it.

The after-burning smell on the rod was a clear indication that the man who used this rod was a rogue.

No. No. No. This couldn’t be right.

"The rogues took her?" Carl said in disbelief, and I watched as he stumbled back.

It was a piece of shocking news to me too, but I knew I needed to work quickly to save her.

The rogues probably wanted some kind of revenge from her for interfering with their work just like that rogue had mentioned, and if that was right, the chances of that rogues hurting Valencia or doing something irreparable -

No. Maverick. Stop thinking about all those negative things.

I quickly pulled out my phone from my pocket and dialed Shadow’s number.

"Yes, alpha," The man immediately said, and I gave him quick instructions to tighten the security and block all the exits from this city.

From the scent of blood, it was clear the incident didn’t happen a long time ago and they wouldn’t be too far.

I immediately asked all my spy teams that were already spread in the city and the pack to come out and work together to look for the girl.

I saw Carl getting on his knees as he quickly dialed some number, probably the backup as he followed me to the car once again.

It was true I was angry at him, but right now finding Valencia was far more important, and we all needed to work together for the cause.

"Dylan," Carl said in a trembling voice.

I could hear their conversation pretty well and Dylan hummed vaguely.

"Why do you sound like that? Don’t tell me you got beaten up by my baby girl," Dylan said jokingly, my fists tightening on the wheel at the endearing nickname he called Valencia.

"Dylan, I messed up pretty badly," Carl said before he briefed Dylan about everything that happened in the last hour.

I could see how he was saving some details. I wasn’t a fool.

"So you’re telling me that some rogues came and took away Valencia while you were enjoying some kind of party?" Dylan’s voice took a dark turn and even I could feel his dominance rising in the phone.

However, what I hadn’t expected was to hear a shattering growl from the other side, and I knew it wasn’t Dylan.

It was the council head.

"You moron! Do you have any idea what you did?!" The council head shouted through the phone, and I saw Carl shaking in his place.

I could understand this was a severe situation, but why did it make me feel like something else was going on here?
