Chapter 308: A little information on everything

VALENCIA’S POV

"Baby, can you wait for me here? I’ll be back after checking what it is," Maverick cupped my cheeks, and I furrowed my brows.

I looked at him sternly.

"Maverick, what do you think of me? Am I just someone you love?" I asked.

Maverick shook his head.

"What are you talking about, Mitsuki? You’re not just someone I love. You are the love I marked, someone who will stay by my side, and I will love you for the rest of eternity. You are someone who will be my Luna and–" Maverick paused.

Maybe he understood why I asked this question, and he sighed before ruffling his hair as he wore his jacket.

I did the same, and he pulled me by hand before planting a chaste kiss on my lips.

"I will never be able to win against you when it comes to words," He said before he took me out of the private house, where a car was already waiting for us.

We sat in the car to go to the destination where the bodies were found.

"Do you want to stay here? It will be much better," Maverick asked me, but I shook my head.

The pack was mine too; all the responsibilities and problems falling on it were mine too, and there was no way I would stay back just because the sight was unpleasant when it could be used to find an answer regarding who dared to make such a bold move.

As soon as we reached the place, we saw the pack of people standing next to us with their backs to the dead bodies, and for some reason, I knew this was going to be bad.

I walked forward, making the men before me step aside as they made for me. I looked at the naked dead bodies of the females, who were full of bruises and scratches, a clear indication of how these ladies were tortured before they were dumped here.

None of them opened their eyes, and I licked my chapped lips at the weird smell around them.

It was as if Aurora was trying to pick on something, and I took a deep breath.

"What is it, Aurora?" I asked.

"I don’t know what this is, but I feel something is wrong with the situation here," Aurora commented.

I hummed.

There was no use speaking about it until we had proof.

"What do you think?" I looked at Maverick.

"The rogues of the southern regions have found an interesting way to provoke us," Maverick said.

I hummed again.

Since I didn’t exactly know how I was feeling or what was weird about the situation, I couldn’t voice my doubts and just sighed.

"I want a postmortem report for everyone here," Maverick suddenly announced, and I wasn’t the only one shocked by his words.

"We have got to take every precautionary measure," He explained, and I agreed with his words.

The rogues of the southern regions were increasingly becoming daring. They knew all too well how bad things could turn, but they were still going ahead with their provocation. It almost felt like someone was backing them up in this nonsense.

After thoroughly investigating the site, we returned to his house, now our house, and Maverick left to hold a meeting with the patrol.

He asked me if I wanted to join, but I had other matters to attend to.

I fished out my phone and called Theo.

"Hello," The man on the other side picked up the phone at the first ring.

"Hey, how are things going?" I asked casually, and Theo told me about what they had been doing the past days regarding the search for the members of the Phoenix Blood Pack and how they had been driving those rogues out of the pack with the help of people from the Dark Callisto Pack.

However, for some reason, they were on a break for four days.

"I know it’s a little too much of me to ask you to work when it is only now that you have gotten some time for yourself, but–" I couldn’t complete my sentence when I heard a scoff from the other side before the sound of the phone being snatched from Theo’s hand arrived.

"Just tell us what you need our help with," Tory said.

"I want you to find out about something. The information would be tricky since it involves royals," I said.

I sent them the picture of the pendant I was wearing and told them to look into it. Who did the pendant belong to, and what was its significance? Because my fickle mind couldn’t take it, Prince Ethan lashed out for nothing.

There has to be something related to the pendant that he knew, and others didn’t, and I had an inkling that it dated back to how he was brought to the royal palace.

These were just speculations, but it was evident that this pendant was more worthy than that rogue head thought, or he wouldn’t have given it to me just like that.

"Also, at the same time, I want you to spread the news among the rogues that I am looking for the mysterious masked rogue. I don’t have his contact information, but from what he told me, he must be keeping an eye on me already; thus, I am sure he will come to meet me like this," I said.

I had expected them to ask me more questions, but instead, they lashed at me, and I raised my brows.

"Have you lost your mind? Do you know how angry we were when we discovered it was the rogue of the northern regions you met? And now you want to meet him again. Do you not cherish your life at all?" They asked in sync, and I sighed.

I told them about what happened at the royal ball, how Prince Ethan lashed out after seeing the pendant, how they tried to plan against me, what happened to Alpha Tyler, and everything related.

There was a long silence after I ended my words, and I looked at the phone to ensure they were still on the line.

I was about to ask why they weren’t speaking when they suddenly said, "So he is indeed dead and gave you the hazel moon pack?" Theo asked.

I was about to nod my head to confirm when an idea suddenly struck me. However, I didn’t want to mention it without talking to Maverick. He had proposed, wishing to take care of things with the Hazel Moon pack as they already hate me.

If I went there to soothe things and express my final decision, the chances that they would lash out at me and make things difficult for me were greater. On the other hand, no matter how angry they were, they wouldn’t dare stand and talk against Alpha Maverick. Thus, he wanted to save me from that drama, and I was grateful for that.

"We will find all the information on the pendant and get your words about wanting to meet the rogue head around. Is there anything else?" Tory asked.

I hesitated for a second. Though it wasn’t the most essential matter in my mind, it held enough significance, and thus, I sighed.

"There is one more thing. When you are looking for any eyewitness in that historical rogue attack on the royals from the royal side, can you look into any rogue eyewitness of the attack that occurred on Dark Callisto pack seven years ago? Anyone who knows the real story? I am ready to pay any amount," I said.

After talking for some time, I ended the call and was about to lie down on the couch when I froze in my place.

I wasn’t alone in the house. Someone was standing near me, and he probably heard everything.

I turned around and saw Greta standing at some distance with a neutral expression, leaving me unsure if he heard me.

I was about to ask him what he was doing here when he beat me to it.

"Does Alpha know you are digging for information like this, Luna?" He asked.

I licked my bottom lip.

I know my methods were wrong, and Alpha Maverick would probably lash out if he found out I was trying to find information about Alfonso, but I just couldn’t allow their bond to break like this over misunderstandings when I knew the truth and that the man was innocent.

"He doesn’t," I answered.

I didn’t know if I could trust Greta to keep this secret for me since he was Maverick’s loyal man, and I joined recently.

However, I still wanted to try.

"Actually, I think–"

"It’s good," Greta said, and I raised my brows.

"It’s good that you are thinking about it. For some reason, we also felt that what happened that night and what was portrayed were two different things. Alfonso wasn’t that kind of man. Though he was called useless before alpha because he wasn’t as powerful as our alpha, he loved everyone. We wanted to search too, but we could never mention it or look into it," Greta said.

"We are truly blessed to have gotten such a thoughtful Luna," Greta said, bowing to me on his left knee before standing.

"I was here to inform you that we have organized a little party outside the pack for two days in the city hall to celebrate your marking ceremony. We would really appreciate it if you could join," Greta said, and I smiled before nodding.
