VALENCIA’S POV

"Take Alpha Tyler’s body respectfully. Though he took his life, he should be treated with equal respect as any alpha. What he did to me is a different matter. He was a good alpha to you guys. Cremate his body with all the procedures, and till then, keep yourself protected from any rogue attacks until we come to any conclusion. Until I or anyone else comes there, you will be in charge of the pack," I said.

Beta Kyle’s pupils dilated before he nodded and bowed to me.

I gulped, looking at Matilda, who the royal guards held back.

She offended the royalty by attacking the princess, which was their deal.

I couldn’t interfere with that. Besides, I was sure they wouldn’t do anything to harm her fatally as she was still pregnant. This baby was surely her shield.

"Let’s go," I said to Maverick, who nodded.

"Alpha Maverick –" One of the alphas stepped ahead.

"Later," Maverick said without looking back, and I placed my head on his chest, closing my eyes finally to relax.

Maverick hummed.

"I will look into it," He said briefly before looking away.

I blinked my eyes at him.

What was wrong with him? I didn’t like the cold shoulder he was giving me.

"Is something wrong?" I placed my hand over him, and he removed it gently.

"I feel like I don’t deserve your care, Valencia. This is the second time your life was put at stake, even when I was there. What kind of husband will I make? Am I even worthy of you?" Maverick asked.

For the first time, I could sense a hint of self-doubt in him, and it aches my heart to look at him like this.

"If you hadn’t been worthy of me, I would’ve died tonight," I whispered.

"Valencia!" he raised his voice at me, and I smiled.

I know he doesn’t like it when I talk about dying, but I can’t really help it like this.

"Then stop talking nonsense and let me drink your blood," I whispered.

The man looked at me helplessly before he looked at Shadow, who cleared his throat and parked the car on the side of the highway.

He stepped out of the car thoughtfully, and I sighed.

"Sometimes I wonder if you can’t change into your wolf form because you are a vampire," Maverick said, probably hinting at how fast my healing turned when he offered his blood to me.

"I don’t know. Maybe I am a vampire for you," I licked my bottom lip.

As soon as he unbuttoned the top two buttons of the shirt and exposed his neck to me, I felt my own pupils dilating and my night vision improving.

Without wasting a second, I sat straight before literally pouncing on the man.

I didn’t care about my wounds anymore.

A deep hot breath left my mouth as I sniffed his neck, rubbing my nose on his skin up and down.

I gulped. All the naughty thoughts were going over my head as heat seeped from my vagina, and I realized what was happening.

I don’t know what he told Shadow, but in the next second, Maverick sat in the driver’s seat and started driving.

I turned to look at Shadow, who was left on the side of the road.

"What about him?" I asked, baffled.

"He is not important right now. Besides, I can’t allow any man near you when you are like this," Maverick growled, his brows turning amber, indicating that Reaper was struggling to take over and claim me.

I smiled.

"Is that so?" I asked, wanting to act boldly.

I pulled the strap of my dress down before unzipping my dress from behind.

"Valencia!" Maverick seethed.

I could see the restraint in his voice before my gaze fell on his knuckles, which were turning white because of how tightly he was holding the steering wheel.

"I am feeling hot, Maverick," I complained before taking the dress off completely.

It was a good thing I wore a tube bra and panties under the dress, or it would’ve been embarrassing.

I saw Maverick turning to the left even when there was no cut. He was moving into the forests, and his actions surprised me.

"Alpha Maverick, what are you doing?" I asked, but I stopped when I smelled the wet soil and water.

He was probably taking me near some kind of lake or pond to cool off my heat.
