Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 294: The Mysterious Pendant
Chapter 294: The Mysterious Pendant
THIRD PERSON’S POV
"Valencia!" Maverick immediately stood from his seat as he had seen the second sharp blade just a second ago. He moved quickly and barely helped her dodge the blade.
Everyone was shocked by the sudden change of events.
"Aah!" A piercing sound echoed from the forests, and some alphas got onto their feet to bring the person who dared to attack a future Luna at the royal event.
Since Valencia was wearing a heavy gown, though she successfully did a somersault and even hit the person, she fell on the ground because of Maverick’s sudden intrusion.
However, she didn’t feel the kind of pain she had expected to feel.
Her clenched eyes, as she had shielded her face and side of the head with her left hand and right elbow, still holding the bow, opened when she smelt the familiar scent.
The warmth from his body spread into her heart.
"Are you okay?" The guy quickly got up.
She saw raw concern in his eyes and nodded at him.
"I am fine," She whispered.
She wanted to stand, but she felt like she twisted her hand that was still holding the bow and winced in pain.
"Now I don’t think I am fine," Valencia muttered with a scowl, her expression too adorable, and Maverick pulled her in for a hug, still on the ground.
"I will make it alright," He whispered into her neck before pulling away and helping her stand.
He got on his ankles and evened her gown, his gentleness with Valencia shocking everyone.
"Speak before we make you," The alphas forced the man to the ground, who was already bleeding because of the arrow in his left hand.
His presence surprised everyone because it was clear he was one of the royal guards itself.
Valencia, concentrating on her hand and feeling a little dizzy once again, looked at Dylan helplessly.
The man immediately got her signal and rushed inside the royal palace to bring the flowers for her.
They were now acting as drugs to keep her sane as her powers were awakening little by little.
"Why did you want to kill me?" Valencia asked the man, breathing heavily against Maverick’s chest.
"I am sorry, Princess Dilbar. I could not see this girl acting so high and mighty before you. How could I allow her to get all the credit? You missed the shot a little, and your scores fell. I couldn’t bear to see you lose," The man said.
Valencia’s gaze darkened.
Everyone looked at Dilbar, who was immediately put on the spot.
"What are you talking about? How can you try to hurt our guests just because they were competing with us? What kind of thought process is this? What if she had been seriously injured?" Dilbar asked, her genuine concern eliminating the slight doubt in everyone’s heart.
It wasn’t new for the subordinates to act independently occasionally whenever they saw their master’s pride in danger.
So it was kind of understandable.
"So you thought killing my woman to keep your princess’s pride was the right choice?" Maverick said that after a long time, everyone saw his eyes turning golden.
His wife was threatened in his presence yet again.
Luckily, he saved her in time, but what if they hadn’t seen the blade in time, and she hadn’t done that summer assault to dodge it?
"I was aiming for her hand only, which she was using to shoot," the man said honestly.
Maverick scoffed.
"Is this the security we were promised?" Maverick asked.
Valencia’s face was still stuffed in his chest as he felt her growing tired out of the blue.
"We are sorry for the trouble our guard caused, which was quite unexpected. Please be rest assured we will deal with him properly," Prince Ethan tried to assure and dismiss the matter since this wasn’t their prime goal today.
Maverick helped his woman to the nearest chair that Luna Avery pulled up hurriedly and thanked her.
He brushed his knuckles on her cheeks before sighing.
"I will deal with whoever dares to try to hurt my woman myself," Maverick stood straight, his intense and cold gaze meeting Prince Ethan.
He never challenged the royal’s authority but would do anything for his woman.
Maverick walked to the sword arena and grabbed a random sword before returning to where that guard was kneeling. The guard’s expression turned bewildered as he shook his head.
"Alpha, please forgive me. It was lowly of me. I will never—" The guard pleaded, and Maverick looked at his men, who stepped ahead without hesitation.
Shadow grabbed the man’s head, and Maverick pulled out the guard’s tongue before he looked around at all the alphas. The indication was clear. If their Lunas were soft-hearted, they had the choice to shield their eyes.
No one dared to make a sound because if they had been in his place, they would’ve wanted to punish the person who threatened their loved one, too.
The alphas shielded their Lunas while Maverick glanced at his woman briefly. His gaze swept over Dilbar for a second, and his cold and threatening gaze became even more scary.
The guard tried to free his mouth from the man’s grip, but with one swift move, Maverick sliced the tongue of the man, letting the organ drop to his knees.
He then dismembered his hand wrist before stepping back.
Maverick looked at Prince Ethan, who looked back at him sternly.
This was one reason why he wanted Maverick out of his way. Though the alpha never tried to disrespect the royals, the fact that he was powerful enough to take over the royalty wasn’t hidden.
Besides, only a few people know that when the legal son and king of the throne died, Alpha Maverick had equal chances of taking the throne because of his dominance in the world.
If the current King hadn’t brought his illegal son out of nowhere, the kingdom wouldn’t have stayed with them.
Prince Ethan was meticulous and knew not to provoke the alpha at this crucial time. After all, he had seen what he did to his own mate when she threatened Valencia’s life. Their bond ran deeper than the mate bond; thus, attacking the girl was akin to attacking the alpha.
As Prince Ethan turned to apologize to Valencia to ease the tension, he saw something shining in her neck, and his gaze widened.
He walked ahead in rushed steps to look carefully.
Without thinking twice, influenced by his shock, he grabbed Valencia’s elbow and forced her to stand.
"Prince Ethan!" Maverick raised his voice at the prince who was crossing his line.
"Where did you get this pendant from?" Prince Ethna ignored Maverick completely and kept staring at the pendant on Valencia’s neck that had been hiding under her dress. She came out because she had somersaulted earlier.
Seeing Prince Ethan blatantly staring at his woman’s chest, even because of a pendant, Maverick couldn’t control his anger anymore and rushed forward.
Ethan was about to grab the pendant from her neck when Maverick held his hand to stop him. He was tempted to punch the daylights of this prince but controlled himself at the last second.
"Have you lost your mind? Where are you looking?" Maverick pushed the prince away, holding Valencia close to himself, who looked equally stupefied by the sudden events.
Prince Ethan gritted his teeth.
"I apologize for my behavior, but I need to know where she got this pendant from," Prince Ethan said.
Valencia looked at the pendant in her neck—the same beautiful pendant that she had been wearing after the rogue gave it to her. Though she didn’t want to wear it, she considered the thought behind the gift and how beautiful it was and couldn’t help but wear it daily.
"I got it from a pawn shop when I was a rogue," Valencia lied. The man glared at the pendant for some time before turning around and leaving, leaving everyone confused by his behavior.
