Chapter 260: Dead Horses

Chapter 260: Dead Horses

THIRD PERSON’S POV

"What do you mean?" Reaper stepped ahead and was about to walk to Cordelia to snap her further and give her the pain that would keep her away from him for some time when Shadow rushed to him.

"Sir, this is important," Shadow said, looking at Cordelia disgustedly.

Cordelia rolled her eyes before dabbing the corner of her lips and standing shamelessly.

She walked to the food aisle and started eating food to replenish her energy. She watched Maverick’s expression turn cold each second.

"Are you sure about it?" Maverick asked.

One of the council members also rushed to Dylan, who raised his eyebrows when he heard about the news.

The man looked at Maverick, and judging from his expression, it was clear he had heard the same news from his beta.

"That’s impossible. She isn’t that irresponsible," Dylan’s voice was raised, and Alpha Tyler looked at the council head’s son with an interested gaze.

"What’s wrong, Dylan? Don’t tell me your pretty friend caused some trouble again," Tyler said.

Dylan glared at the alpha before walking out of the hall in long strides.

Seeing his cousin becoming anxious and exiting the hall, Carl followed him.

"Brother, what’s wrong?" Carl asked.

Dylan shook his head.

However, when his brother looked at him persistently, he sighed and told him that Valencia had been asked to lock the stables, and she hadn’t.

The horses have been found dead in the forests near the lake, which was probably due to the rogues arriving to avenge the death of the rogues that were shredded earlier by God knows who.

Carl raised his brows.

He indeed didn’t expect to hear something like that.

"But, brother. What if someone else did it and is trying to blame Valencia for it?" Carl asked.

Dylan shook his head.

Valencia was the last person seen near the stable because she wanted to ride a horse.

Besides, the horses were special to them as they had an ancestral connection with the council members. The horses had been fine for so long.

Why would anyone make this kind of mistake?

And many council members didn’t even like horse riding.

It was obvious that whoever did it made a deliberate move against them and against her. But without proof, they won’t be able to prove her innocence.

"I think it’s not okay to make baseless assumptions. She is indeed a bit careless, but I don’t think she would make this kind of mistake," Carl said.

Dylan sighed and looked at his brother.

"It’s not that I suspect her, Carl. The horses have been found dead. I am wondering who hated Valencia so much that he sacrificed our Ancestral horses to put a small blame of carelessness on her?" Dylan looked at his brother before placing his hand on the pillar.

He didn’t even have the heart to check up on the horses. He had grown up with them and used to play with them all the time.

"Brother," Carl comforted Dylan before suggesting talking to Valencia and examining where and when things went wrong.

Dylan agreed with the suggestion before they made their way to Valencia’s room.

It was empty.

The lack of her faintest scent and the coldness of the room clearly indicated that no one had entered the room in a couple of hours.

If she wasn’t in her room, where did she go? Carl wondered before looking at Dylan, both having the same thoughts.

"Could it be that she is where the horses were?" They immediately asked someone to look for her.

"I am not sure if this is just my speculation, but Valencia was in the forest when the rogues were found dead. She never clearly stated what exactly happened there," Carl said.

Dylan’s expression turned grave.

Right. He was only thinking about the horses. What if the rogues managed to take Valencia with themselves? This was an even bigger blunder.

They hurried down and asked the guards to spread out in the forests on all four sides and start looking for her without letting Alpha Maverick or his people know about it.

Maverick, who was back in control and heard about the dead bodies found in the forests, walked out of the council chambers, his brows furrowed when he saw the anxious look on Dylan’s and Carl’s faces that they quickly tried to mask.

He wasn’t a fool.

But rather than asking them what was the matter, he called Valencia.

She didn’t pick up.

He called again, but she didn’t pick up again.

He looked back at Carl, who was looking at him, but averted his gaze as soon as he looked at him. He knew that the matter was related to Valencia.

"Carl, where is Valencia?" Maverick asked.

"Why are you asking about her now? Weren’t you busy attending to your mate? How can you even ask about her after all the pain you made her go through tonight?" Carl seethed through his teeth.

Maverick pressed his lips into a thin line, feeling suddenly helpless.

"Shadow, go search the forests with our men. Let me know if you find something," the alpha said.

"You can’t intervene in the council’s matters, Alpha," Carl started, but one look from Maverick was enough for him to shut up.

His brows eyes turned amber, his alpha aura dominating.

Carl knew to retreat and looked at Dylan, who shook his head.

They had more important matters at hand.

For example, who was conspiring against Valencia, and where did she go?

As wishful as she was, his heart told him she hadn’t run away because she was sad and wanted some time for herself after Maverick’s mate appeared.

Something else was the matter.

"Sir!" One of the guards rushed to Dylan.

"We found Miss Valencia’s broken earring on the ground in the forest," the guard said.

Maverick, who was about to turn around and go inside the chambers, stopped.

"What did you say?" He asked, his voice a tone deeper.

The guard paused and looked at Dylan.

Seeing the broken earring, Maverick didn’t waste a single second and turned into his wolf form.

Rrrrr!

An ear-piercing growl echoed in the forests, letting everyone know that the alpha of the alphas was angry.

All the alphas and Lunas rushed out of the council chambers to see what was happening.

Matilda, who returned after talking to the rogues and ensuring them she would pay them within two days and that they wouldn’t need to go to her pack, looked around surprised.

"What’s going on?" She asked no one in particular.

"Apparently, Miss Valencia has disappeared," one of the Lunas said.

Matilda scoffed.

"What’s there to worry about? It’s obvious she left to save herself some face. I mean, who would want to stay here after this kind of humiliation," She asked, her gaze shifting to her man, who looked equally concerned.

She pressed her lips into a thin line, not liking how he was worried about someone who shouldn’t mean anything to him.

At the same time, inside one of the hotels near the city council chambers, the man following Valencia for some time was asleep on the sofa, feeling relaxed and calm after a really long time.

After meeting Valencia and giving her the pendant, initiating a friendship with her that he had been thinking about for so long, he finally felt like he could breathe.

However, his deep slumber was broken when someone knocked on his room’s door.

The doorbells started ringing unstoppably.

The man furrowed his brows, snarling in annoyance.

"I swear I am going to kill the person who came to disturb me if this wouldn’t be important," The man said through the mind link he developed with his team so that the person who dared to disturb him could’ve one more chance at running away and saving his life.

However, when the banging didn’t stop, he stood from his place and walked to the door with long, angry strides.

"What the hell do you –?" He paused when he saw his right-hand man standing with an anxious expression.

He immediately knew something had happened.

"What happened?" He asked.

"Sir, this is bad," The man said.

The leader felt his eyes droop at the words. These were the worst words, yet his people kept using them before him.

"Explain," The leader said.

"Sir, the rogue troops got attacked by the rogue group of the southern regions. They are planning against the Dark Callisto pack, and our team had a face-off with them. We lost seven of our men," his subordinate said.

The leader hummed.

"We will arrange a funeral for them. Inform their families and ask the other troops in the area to gather. Who started it again?" The leader asked, ready to take revenge for even one person who died without a fault.

"Both parties were equally responsible, sir. Though we lost seven, they lost 16 too," the subordinate said before gulping.

The leader drank a sip of water. He could see that there was more he wanted to say, and he narrowed his eyes.

"What else?" The leader asked.

"Sir... it... the news isn’t confirmed but..."

"But what? Do you have speech problems?" The leader asked.

"The chances are that Miss Valencia has been abducted," The subordinate said.

The leader spat the water in his mouth, looking at the leader with wide eyes.

"What did you say?"
