Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 224: A little truth
Chapter 224: A little truth
VALENCIA’S POV
"Alpha Maverick, someone is here to meet you," I said, feeling awkward for the girl.
Though what he did was what any woman would prefer from his man when faced with another woman, he was too much.
It has been ten minutes since he has been hugging me.
I subconsciously licked my bottom lip, and the man sighed before stepping back.
"I know, baby. I am sorry, but I forgot I told you no one would interfere with your peace. Should I hold the meeting back in the pack?" He asked me, his eyes clear of malign, and I sighed.
Was he acting like a walking green flag?
’He would make up a forest with this behavior,’ Aurora said, and I hummed.
Maverick finally turned to the girl before squinting his brows.
"Why did you touch her?" He asked, his eyes turning dark.
The girl scrunched her brows, too.
"I didn’t know who she was, Maverick. And I still don’t know about her. What’s going on?" She looked between us like she was entitled to every information about Maverick, and I was the other woman in their relationship.
Aurora stood from her place, ready to show the girl her place because she was trying to disrespect us the second time with her gaze.
"If I were you, I would look at your future, Luna respectfully," Maverick said.
My heart skipped a beat.
I looked at Maverick, baffled.
I know something like this was going on inside his head, but how could he easily say such words? He was practically declaring he was going to marry me.
"Future Luna? What is her origin? She is a rejected wolf, now rogue, working for the council. Do you even know of her rank? Is she even capable of being a member of the Dark Callisto pack, let alone ruling over us?" The girl said.
Maverick nodded at her.
He said nothing for some time and casually pulled out his phone.
He typed a few words before showing the screen to the girl.
I furrowed.
What was he showing to her? I wanted to see it too.
I tried to peek into the phone from the corner of my eyes without making it too obvious.
"Can you read it? The alpha of the Caribbean’s Den Pack released this statement. Do you know who that person is? It’s her," Alpha Maverick said. I couldn’t control myself anymore, so I grabbed his phone.
They dared to launch a statement?! I told them not to do anything like that.
I read the lines, and though they didn’t particularly specify who entered the Caribbean’s Den Pack, the fact that people around me knew about me was more than enough to spread the word.
I looked at Maverick, who had a smirk on his face that promised nothing good to me later.
I cleared my throat before looking at the side.
"Um... You guys talk," I tried to skip away again, but it didn’t work.
"She is here for your safety," Maverick dropped the bomb on me as soon as I started to walk away, and I looked at the man with raised brows.
He just didn’t say that.
"Alpha--" The girl was in disbelief too, and honestly, I have nothing particular against her, but I was in disbelief too.
"Well, let me introduce you guys properly," Maverick said before he held my hand and pulled me closer to the girl.
"Valencia, this is Amelia, one of the best female spies and the second leader of the women’s team of our pack. Amelia, this is Valencia, the daughter of one of the most prestigious Luna in the world and a council spy, but more than that, the woman of my life. I have chosen her as my rightful better half for the rest of eternity, and before you ask if I am sure about this decision, I am," Maverick said.
I looked at the girl, who had the same surprised expression on her face, and I started to get bored.
Does she even know how to smile?
"She is a rogue, alpha. Despite who her parents are or how daring she is, she is a rogue. How can you even think of choosing her after what this particular group of people did to you?" The girl, Amelia said, and I tilted my head.
I have been going easy with her insult for quite some time, but I was reaching my limit.
Maverick looked at Amelia. I could feel his aura darkening and the air around us getting colder, making me realize his wolf was starting to feel offended.
"Last time I checked, I could decide who would become the woman of my life. Why don’t you take your advice and eat it because no one needs it here?" Maverick’s voice was cold and calm, but his words were harsh, and honestly, for a tiny second, I kind of felt bad for the girl.
If I had been in her place and my alpha had said such words before the girl I didn’t like, I would’ve resigned from my position and left already.
’Well, guess what, Val? Not everyone likes the idea of a rogue life. And sometimes the alphas must be harsh with their people to keep reminding them who is in power,’ Aurora said, and I hummed.
True. How can I keep forgetting that the alpha needs to keep things in check to keep so many people together? If he lets go with such words and disrespect towards his decision once, they will dare to say something later, too.
I looked at Alpha Maverick.
"You better remove this idea from your head. I would rather handle things myself than take support and protection from someone who despises my kind. Don’t test my limits," I said to Maverick before taking a deep breath.
I thought the alpha would at least feel a little offended by my choice of words and get angry and remove the idea of giving me some kind of protection from his head but rather than getting angry, he smiled. He smiled as if he was looking at something tiny and cute, and I narrowed my eyes at him.
Was he making fun of my anger?
He doesn’t know what I am capable of.
’What are you capable of?’ Aurora asked, and I glared at her.
’Well, I am definitely going to stop talking to him, and it would be more or less a punishment for him,’ I said proudly before freezing in my place.
Was I being for real? Did I just threaten him only to stop talking to him?
It was almost as if he knew where my trail of thoughts was going. He stepped ahead and grabbed my face between his hands, squishing my cheeks and making my lips pout in the process while I looked at him like a duck.
This guy!
"I know, Mistsuki. I know I should be afraid of your anger," Maverick bent and pecked my lips before pinching my lips.
"Uhhh, how can you be so cute and lovely even when you are throwing a tantrum?" he asked, rubbing his nose on mine, and I scowled.
Seriously? He was practically forgetting the primary purpose of why I was angry.
I don’t want any kind of protection from anyone, especially from this girl who hates my species.
Being protected by someone is almost equal to having a bodyguard who would follow you everywhere, and with my kind of work, I don’t think that was a good idea.
I smacked his hands away.
"You don’t have a say in this, Mitsuki," He said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"The decision came from the council. They have permitted me to take care of you. Though they’ll stay as your guardian because of the kinship, you will be practically under me, ruling over me. Thus, it’s my duty to protect my queen," Mavericks said,
I noticed how he slickly said I was under him as if I was supposed to listen to him but said to rule him at the same time, knowing how much I despise when someone tries to dominate me.
He was getting good at things. And I wasn’t sure if I liked it.
"Why do you even want to give me a bodyguard? I can fight for myself," I said defensively, even though this statement sounded completely dumb, given my recent attack.
It was true that I knew how to fight, but how would I be able to fight an enemy that I couldn’t see?
Maverick didn’t say anything and kept looking into my eyes before bending.
I thought he was going to peck my lips again, like all the other times, but who would’ve thought, rather than that, he would drop the bomb on me?
"Don’t act like the sneaky cat that you are, my love. Save your claws for later, will you?" He asked me, his lips curling into a smirk.
I looked at him with my pupils dilated.
Wait. He didn’t just hint at that, did he? Has he finally discovered the truth behind my shifting?
But how was that possible? I haven’t even transformed around or before him for a few days. Where did it suddenly come from?
"I don’t know what you are talking about, Alpha Maverick," I said, looking away.
He nodded.
"You don’t have anything to say, but the CCTV footage of the forests near your lake house has much to say," Maverick said.
I widened my eyes in realization.
Did this crazy man really hide a spying camera near my house to find out about it?
