Chapter 209: Busted

Chapter 209: Busted

VALENCIA’S POV

"Where is the place?" I asked the girl, holding her shoulders.

I could see the fear in her eyes, but I couldn’t care less about being gentle when my friend was ready to lose his head over something that wasn’t his fault.

He came here to search for my pack members, and though he might have lost his mind because he probably remembered his mate and what happened to her and entered the forests, it didn’t matter.

"I... I... In the middle of the pack. There is a place where people are punished publicly to maintain the law and order," the girl stuttered.

To maintain law and order, my ass. They just want to keep people fearful.

"Thank you," I said to her before pulling a candy out of my pocket and forcing it into her hand.

"This must be exotic for you. It’s good. Try it," I said before I turned around, hearing the collective sound of people coming towards us.

I need to leave and make my way to the place before I get caught.

The guards would be near where Theo has been captured. Meeting these people was inevitable.

If I knew things were like this, I would’ve brought a horse to kidnap him.

Thinking about how it would’ve looked, a smile appeared on my face.

This also reminds me that I will have to explain things to Happy when I return. He was irritated when I left the last time, too. I had told him I would inform him when I left next time, but I forgot.

Shaking my head, I looked at the pendant, hoping it would do its job well to hide me.

Rather than wasting time thinking about useless things, make your way to the area already. It will be morning soon.’ Aurora said, and I nodded at her.

I looked at the sky. Though there was still a good amount of darkness, the sun would soon rise.

Since this place is near the seashore, it will look more prominent here.

With a sigh, I tightened the strap of my bow around my shoulders before I used my powers to run, hiding behind the trees every time I heard a sound.

After five minutes, I finally reached the residential area.

The girl said that the place where Theo must’ve been tied or captured was in the middle of the pack.

’She didn’t say that. She said the beheading would take place in the middle of the pack to set an example for the pack members.

As always, a video will be made that goes viral in the entire werewolf community to ensure no one commits the same crime or at least to instill fear in people, Aurora said.

She knew quite a lot, given that she said she was some kind of special wolf who didn’t often take birth in humans.

I didn’t know much about this case when I worked in the council for six months.

Or maybe because no one dared to cross the pack in the past six months.

I sighed.

It was going to be tough. There was no doubt about it.

’Let me reach the center of the pack first and check if they brought him here already. If not, I’ll move towards their dungeons,’ I said to Aurora, who didn’t say anything this time, probably silently agreeing.

With a sigh, I closed my breath.

’I am risking all this to save a life, moon goddess, so rather than toughening things for me, keep calm,’ I said to the moon goddess, who doesn’t cease to amaze me with her trouble list.

I looked behind the house when I heard a woman talking to someone.

"Do you think they will really behead him?"

"I don’t know, Mia. You know how pack rules work. No one has a say in it."

"Shut it. Don’t let the forest spirits hear you,"

The people talked, and I would’ve loved to give them my input on how the forest spirits were not protecting them but were also caged here for God knows how long.

I hardly believe these people know what the outside world looks like. And when the world isn’t exactly the best place with all the crimes going on, it doesn’t mean staying in a confined place is the solution.

Rather than wasting my time, I reached the middle of the pack, placing my hand on my heart to calm the fast-beating organ. I almost got caught when crossing the road.

Thankfully, this pendant was doing a good job hiding my scent. But with my heart beating like this, they are bound to catch on sooner or later.

"Do you feel it?"

I suddenly heard another voice, and I closed my eyes. I was hiding behind the bush near the house, almost lying flat on the ground to ensure they didn’t catch a glimpse of it.

"Feel what?" The other guard asked.

"I don’t know. It just feels different today. Like I can feel a kind of vibe that hasn’t been here before,"

"Maybe because we have an invader," The guard said, and my heart skipped.

Have they already found out about me? No, I haven’t even met Theo yet. This won’t do.

"Ha, that might be because of that guy they caught," the guard said and I took a deep breath, feeling relief in my heart.

I crawled towards the backyard of the house and was about to stand and leave. I didn’t see anyone, but before I could move, I heard a window opening above me, and I instinctively looked up.

"Jason? Is that you? What are you doing here?" It was a girl’s hushed whisper, and I knew I needed to leave before she found out I wasn’t her boyfriend or whoever this Jason person was.

Grabbing a stone from beside me, with controlled movement, I threw the stone at some distance to make some noise.

Just like I had guessed, she looked in that direction, and I stood from my place before rushing further toward the middle of the pack.

I don’t understand why these people wake up so early in the morning. It wasn’t even 5 am, probably.

Don’t tell me this is a rule in their pack, too, because if it was, I was thoroughly fucked up.

I gritted my teeth when I didn’t see anyone near the place that looked like an altar for the punishing ceremony.

Damn it. I didn’t ask that girl where the dungeons were.

Seeing two guards standing at some distance, I walked to them carefully, hiding behind the tree.

"When will the alpha be here? Have you gotten any news from the beta?" One of them asked.

"The beta has been guarding the dungeons since the man was caught,"

"By the way, did you hear it?"

"Hear what?"

"They say that the man received a call from someone, and the beta picked it up. A girl said she would be here to free the man. What do you think?" The man asked.

I smiled. They were talking about me.

’It’s not the time to stand here and smile. You should be working,’ Aurora reminded me again.

’But where are the dungeons?’ I whispered into their ears randomly.

"Seriously, dude? It’s right on the left of the pack house near the forest entrance. How many times—" the man stopped speaking, but I was done, and it was time to vanish.

I saw the man looking around, and a smirk appeared on my face.

I was feeling it. Aurora was right. I needed to stop wasting time.

I rushed to the left side of the pack house, where the forest could be seen at some distance. The entrance of the dungeons must be here somewhere.

I looked around and was about to walk to the entrance when I bumped into someone.

The person narrowed his brows as he looked me straight in the eyes.

"Who are you? Don’t you know the dungeons are forbidden for girls?" The man said, probably too dazed by the night shift to recognize I wasn’t a pack member.

"I was wondering," I said confidently.

"Well, then go wander somewhere else," He said and turned around.

As soon as he did that, I pulled out the needle from my pocket and hit his neck with it, rendering him unconscious.

Why would I wander off somewhere else when I came here for this place only?

I threw his body behind the bushes before walking to the entrance again.

Seeing the guards coming out of the door, I signed, controlling my breathing.

After taking a deep breath, I finally walked inside, the strangely clean and small place surprising me.

This was probably the smallest dungeon I have ever seen.

Then again, I am sure they barely have people to put into the dungeons.

"Hey! What the hell?!" I heard an exclaimed whisper, and I turned to look at Theo with a smile.

"Found you," I said before placing my hand on the lock, ready to break it.

But as soon as I did that, the silver on the lock burned my hand, and I winced in pain.

"Be careful! Have you lost your mind?" Theo asked, and I was about to reprimand him when I felt someone’s presence behind me.

"Well, this is surprising," The cold familiar voice said, and I gulped.

’Busted,’ Aurora enlightened me as if I didn’t know that already.
