Chapter 201: A little poison, a little care

VALENCIA’S POV

After three days~~~~

"Are you done?" Maverick knocked on the door once I was done making my threats to Tyler, who had fear in his eyes by the time I finished.

It had been three days since the incident happened, and I had been making sure I visited Tyler daily in the evening after Maverick helped me with my fever so I could renew his pain.

The doctors said it was surprising how his jaws weren’t getting any better even when his hands seemed to be healing at a faster pace.

And did I mention I added a drug to his water and bribed one of the nurses here to keep adding it to his meal? That drug was supposed to slow down the healing process by ten times.

It looked like Tyler knew exactly why I was visiting him.

Well, this was nothing compared to what I went through all those years in the Hazel Moon pack and how they made my life a living hell.

I turned to look at Maverick before giving him the most innocent smile I could muster.

"There is nothing to look at. He can’t talk when he is like this. I guess I’ll visit later," I said.

Maverick looked between Tyler and me for a brief second before humming.

His face was still stoic, but after observing him for so long, I could muster that he was amused. His reaction caught me off-guard slightly.

Why was he amused? Did he, by any chance, know anything about what was going on here?

I shrugged internally, gazing at Kyle, who walked inside the room and looked in my direction warily.

I am sure he heard about my blood lineage, too, or there would have been no reason he wouldn’t look me in the eye.

Though he wasn’t one of my prime bullies, it didn’t mean he didn’t enjoy the show when it was happening.

"Let’s go," Maverick brought me out of my thoughts, and I nodded at him.

"Okay," I whispered, holding his hand that he extended for me.

As we made our way outside, I looked at Maverick.

"You want to say something, Mitsuki?" He asked me, and I bit my lips.

"Don’t you think you trust me a bit too much? What if I turn bad? What if my intentions are wrong, and I am not as innocent as you think I might be?" I asked.

He didn’t stop walking.

It wasn’t until we reached the parking lot that he turned to look at me before releasing a long, drawn-out sigh.

"I never thought you were innocent, Mitsuki," he grinned.

I narrowed my eyes on him.

Well, I don’t know why, but that was offensive and like a compliment at the same time.

Did I not look innocent? Do I look like some cunning criminal?

"And what is that supposed to mean?" I asked rather than going over it in my head.

"Well, that’s the literal meaning. You never looked innocent to me. The moment I looked into your eyes and saw you look dead into mine, I knew you were special. I have met many women because of pack meetings, and let me assure you, baby, an innocent person wasn’t supposed to catch my attention ever. " He snuck his hand around my waist and pulled me closer.

He raised his hand towards my face before rubbing my bottom lip with his thumb.

"It was the right amount of cunningness, mischievousness, innocence in the eyes, not in the actions, that I needed in my life to tame, to tame this beast," Maverick leaned closer and pecked my lips.

I blushed at his confession that he thought I was a cunning girl, shaking my head at him.

He was good with his words. I must give him that.

’Oh baby, you should give him much more than that,’ Aurora commented, and I rolled my eyes, knowing what she was talking about.

It has been three straight days since we have been making out and having sex again and again to keep my heat down. In fact, on the last day, it was so bad that Maverick fucked me for three hours to keep my heat down.

I shook my head at him.

After watching his soft and sturdy chest, did I want to drink anything else? I cleared my throat to wipe those thoughts.

"By the way, you asked me why I trusted you so much. I am willing to take that kind of risk with you. Love is built on trust, and I want to build a future with you, baby." Maverick walked up to me and stuffed sweet candy in my mouth.

"Hmm?" I asked, munching on it, my mood elating slightly as I smiled at him.

He smiled back at me, his smile making him look even more beautiful as he flicked my nose, making me scowl with an annoyed but amused expression.

"It means I know what has been going on in the hospital for the last three days; why do you insist on visiting him every evening and asking for privacy and why he hasn’t healed yet or what is slowing his healing process," Maverick whispered before pecking my forehead.

On the other hand, I froze in my place.

He knew? All the time? I looked at him for an explanation.

"That hospital comes under the jurisdiction of our pack, and the head doctor of that nurse is from our pack. She heard the two of you talking, and since the nurse was a new recruit and didn’t want to leave her job when threatened, she told the doctor everything. The doctor consulted me, and I... How could I go against my woman’s wishes," Maverick leaned in and captured my lips, making me gasp.

My mind was in a mess because of this revelation, but with him kissing me so passionately like this and my heart literally pounding against my chest, how was I supposed to think straight?

"I..." I tried to speak, but the man pushed me down on the couch before lifting his head to look into my eyes.

"However, he needs to leave now—no more visits. As lenient as I am, I am possessive too. You had your fun, but I can’t see my woman with that Bastard anymore," Maverick said.

I nodded at him before pulling him down to hug him.

Running the tips of my fingers through his hair, I lay there, basking in his scent as I thought about everything.

I hadn’t thought about anything during this heat phase because I was technically incapable, and nobody from the council dared come and meet me either, but now that I was back on track, I guess it was time for me to get back into my search.

In addition to the things going on, I need to call the spies from my team here to observe who has been keeping an eye on me.

Just like I had guessed, there was indeed a message there. I looked at Maverick one more time to ensure he wasn’t coming towards me.

I took a deep breath, furrowing my brows when I saw the message notification from an unknown number.

"Call back. It’s urgent,"

Even though the number used was different and completely unknown, with the words used, I knew who it was, and my heart skipped a beat.

They weren’t the kind of people who would disturb me like this. If they want me to call them, something must’ve happened.

Or wait. There is no way they found out what was happening here and wanted to destroy the Hazel Moon pack already, right?
