Chapter 177: His declaration

VALENCIA’S POV

"So, what were you guys doing here?" Dylan asked us as he looked between Maverick and me.

I looked at the alpha briefly before looking down at my feet.

"My bike is still on the cliff," I said, and Dylan said he would ask someone to return it later.

"Well, it was my idea," Maverick said, and I looked at him again in surprise.

Was he really taking the blame for me?

"Your idea?" Uncle Jonathan asked, and judging from his expression, it was clear he wasn’t pleased with what he was hearing.

"Yes. I asked her if she would like to jump into the lake with me and told her it was adventurous.

If I caught her, she would have to come and live with me for a week," Maverick said, twisting some of the words, but every word he said indicated his infatuation with me, and I gulped.

Was he being for real?

He wasn’t talking about such things in front of an average person. It was the council head we were talking about here.

I pressed my lips into a thin line when my uncle looked at me.

"I lost," I said, explaining that I had agreed to whatever bet it was and that now I was supposed to live with him.

Uncle Jonathan said nothing, but I knew he had too many things to discuss. I had many things to talk to him about, too. Starting from my family history, which, for some reason, I was sure he knew, and then the curse that the Lycans didn’t tell me about because I stopped them.

We went back into Dylan’s car. No one said anything, lost in our thoughts.

Once we reached my apartment, I stepped out of the car and was about to go towards the elevator when Maverick’s words stopped me.

"Thank you for bringing me out of my sorrow," he held my hand, massaging my knuckles.

Blush rose to my cheeks, and I cleared my throat to ease my awkwardness before nodding.

"When can I come to take your things?" He asked.

"Hmm?" I asked, confused.

"You lost the bet," He said, and I coughed before glaring at him.

Must he say things like that in front of everyone?

As if he knew exactly what I was thinking, he pulled me closer before looking at the council head.

"I intend to court her from now on because she has caught my attention at first sight, and my wolf approves of her, too. I already know that her mate has rejected her, and the same goes for me. In the last few days, I have noticed that she cares about people from the council because she probably works for them and respects you a lot. Will you allow me to have her?" Maverick said.

To say I was surprised would be an understatement.

I looked at him wide-eyed, caught completely off-guard.

’He is making it look like he is asking for permission from your parents,’ Aurora said, and I blushed at her choice of words.

"I think you are moving too forward," I said.

Maverick looked into my eyes, making me shut up immediately.

"I had moved forward a long time ago. I am just making it official now," he said. I looked at Jonathan from the corner of my eyes before shaking my head and leaving.

I seriously can’t handle this.

My heart was beating at the pace of the bullet train, and it was obviously a bad sign when the men around me were strong and had sensitive hearing. They would know what was happening, and it wouldn’t be hard to guess that, for some reason, his words excited me.

As shameless as it sounded, because just today, I decided I would tell him the truth soon, his words, as he said just now, were making me waver and rethink my decision.

My heart told me not to do anything and just enjoy falling for him. However, I knew this wasn’t possible.

It wasn’t ethical at all.

With a deep sigh, I pressed the button to my apartment. The doors were about to close when someone placed a foot between them, and I looked at the man who had entered.

He was dressed in black from head to toe, with his face covered with a mask, and was wearing a hat.

He strangely looked like the person who had come to our cafe and was described by that bartender, but I didn’t want to jump to conclusions and offend him.

He didn’t smell like a rogue, but then he did not smell like any wolf in the first place.

He smelt neutral, but a faint scent of wood and wet soil came from him, making me clear my throat and pull out my phone so that I wouldn’t be caught looking at him.

"Here," his deep voice said, surprising me when I saw him extend his hand, which held a handkerchief.

"Hmm?" I looked at him, confused.

"Your hair," he said, and I realized he was probably talking about my wet hair and the cold water dripping down my neck, making me shiver.

"Thank you, but I am going to my apartment," I said, and he nodded.

I just noticed he didn’t press any button and scowled even more.

When the elevator reached the apartment floor, I saw her go in the opposite direction.

So he is the new tenant in our opposite apartment. Nodding in realization, I was about to enter the code when I saw him taking off his mask and hat.

However, I couldn’t see his face because he was facing the opposite side.

Not wanting to look like a creep, I entered the apartment, immediately catching Alina’s attention.

"Why are you wet?" She immediately jumped down from the couch and rushed to me.

"Well, things turned that way," I smiled at her before entering my room.

Was he still here? I bit my lips nervously and walked to my window.

As if he knew I would be coming to my window to watch him, he instinctively looked up, a smile playing on his lips, making my heart skip a beat while he talked to Dylan and Jonathan about something.

I took a deep, shaky breath and quickly opened the curtains, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks.

What was this? Why was I acting like a teenager in love? I cleared my throat so Aurora wouldn’t catch up on my nervousness before going straight to the bathroom to take a bath.

While bathing, I couldn’t help but think about that blood puddle, unsure what it was trying to say to me in this dream. I have been dreaming about it quite frequently, but this was the first time it asked me to do something or talked so much to me.

It was as if it was trying to convey a message or threat to me. I don’t know what it was.

As I wrapped the towel around myself, I realized I had forgotten to bring my undergarments to the bathroom, and a groan left my mouth. There was no bathrobe, either.

No wonder Aurora keeps saying I don’t care about such basic things and don’t like other girls.

Wait. I closed the door before coming inside, right?

Yes. I did. Besides, they would know I went to take a bath and won’t enter my room.

Without thinking twice, I exited the bathroom and went straight to my closet to get a pair of undergarments. I pulled out my clothes and threw them on the bed.

I was about to take off my towel when I froze in my place.

I wasn’t alone in the room. Someone was watching me, and judging from the familiar scent, I didn’t need to know who it was.

I turned around swiftly and looked at him with narrow brows.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, and the man smirked at me as if it weren’t a big deal.

"What do you think I am doing? I am watching my future wife," he said, rising from his seat and walking to the door.

He locked the door and stepped close to me, making my fists tighten around the towel.

"Maverick, this is -" I couldn’t complete my words when he used his alpha speed and pushed me onto the bed, hovering over me and capturing my lips into a heated kiss.

"I like you, Mitsuki. I am falling hard for you. Reaper wants to meet you. He wants to take you home with us already. What have you done to us? I had never thought I would climb someone’s balcony like this, but here I am," He groaned in my neck, and my heart skipped a beat.

He was an alpha. What did he mean by climbing my balcony? The people outside will feel his presence nonetheless.

I wanted to cry in helplessness when he brought his hands on my thighs, rubbing the inside of my legs making me shiver in return.

"Maverick," I gasped when he removed his lips from mine and went to kiss my neck instead.

Fuck, I just took a bath; feeling wet was the last thing I wanted to happen, but if he continued this, I would surely end up doing much more than that.
